Shaquille "Shaq / Diesel / Big Aristotle / Big Cactus / Big Witness / Superman / Big Agave / Big Cactus / Big Shaqtus / Big Galactus / Wilt Chamberneezy / Big Baryshnikov / Real Deal / Dr. Shaq / Shaqovic" O'Neal may have priced himself out of the NBA. He remains unsigned in search of a $8 million salary and two-year deal.

He needs to retire already, starting to feel sorry for the guy.

Might be just what he needs to tame that world famous ego. Time and wear & tear catch up to everyone. He needs to realize his limitations. Maybe this way he actually can win another title, with the proper mindset going in.

I wonder how much of his NBA $200M+ he's already burned through?

Will he be one of the 60% of NBA players who are broke 5 years after retirement?

Remember he's going through a very messy divorce. He probably needs the cash. He's also got about 5-6 kids.

The way he burns through $$$ and with his excess spending, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

I bet taxes and his accountant took half... So that leaves about 100M. Then his wife got half, so 50M. His wife and kids will probably get at least a house that he paid cash for, so 50 - 10M, or 40M. Then he spent probably 5M on cars and boats and crap like that custom big rig (and insurance for it all), so 30M. Then family begging for "a couple mill" sine they prolly just saw the headline pretax contract number and thought he got all that so 20M.

So over his 14 year or so career I hope he was fiscally responsible bc he really only had about 20M, or 10% of that headline # to live on.

Bring him to Detroit! All he has to do is be better than Kwame Brown! Monroe could learn from him!

So what, he will still be ok with that kind of money, I would be, and never have to work again. Look at it this way he paid off every one. so he can live for him self, he lives for another 50 years on earth, with 20M.

I am sure you are making your money work.

I think you are right on. With a very expensive divorce pending, he is going to have cash problems. He lives an enormously expensive lifestyle, one that is dependent upon having oodles of cash flow to maintain.

This is a guy who has made $20M+ per year for a long time. I think taking a paycut to $2M per is more than just an ego problem for him... I think it presents a legit financial dilemma for him.

The obvious solution (quit spending so much money) is usually the most painful and many don't do it until too late.
