For the record, I think that "that's so gay" has become so ubiquitous a phrase that most people don't use it with the specific intention of insulting homosexuality or gay people. At the end of the day, people offended by words (either through eavesdropping on other people's conversations or hearing it in a public space where they can remove themselves if they're really upset) allow themselves to be offended.
