...and then on the 22nd we can all laugh our arses off at how stupid this bitch and everyone like her is. Thousands of people have made predictions like this in the last 20 years alone, and guess what, they were all wrong, and missed the point by so far they came out in Bizarro World. :rolleyes
The world is in deep shit, but it has nothing to do with Jesus. I find the human animal's ability to delude itself utterly amazing. Most people would rather focus on anything - celebrity culture, religion, stupid prognostications - other than the bare facts of what is happening around them in the world, namely peakoil, climate change, desertification, disappearing fisheries, mass extinction, economic chaos that makes the rich richer whilst fucking everyone else, etc
But yeah, lets ignore all the real problems in the world and focus on doomsday prophets... the grand irony of which is that ignoring the real problems will bring our civilastion to a nasty reckoning, only it won't be the Apocalypse or the Ascension. It will be the horror of war, famine, pestilence and destitution brought on by horrifically mismanaging the world resources and natural systems. Ugh.

Sorry ruffnready, but why pray tell is she a 'bitch'?
The real problem in this world is within us all.
When we make the choices we make for selfish reasons instead of selfless ones, we are part of the problem.
When we choose hate over love, we are part of the problem.
When we choose war over peace.
When we choose science over faith.

So you'd rather base decisions on faith than reasoning based on evidence? Can you not see how incredibly stupid that is? I'm not saying you can't have your faith - that is your choice - but making decisions based on faith is a horrendous idea. Thank fuck you're not running anything important, because what you are basically saying is that you'll ignore the evidence in preference for crossing your fingers.
Actually, the bigger problem is that you draw a binary dichotomy between faith and scientific endeavour. The two are utterly incompatible and usually applied to very different spheres of life. Faith is an entirely personal choice - science is about using evidence to discover objective knowledge about the way the world operates. Why you, and many others, conflate the two I'll never know.

I'm running something very important, my household.
I'm sorry my friend, but I feel you are lost in your ego and your science at the moment.
My faith is that True Love Conquers All.
Science is a tool. I appreciate it as a tool.
But it is nothing more than that and it has it's limitations, as any tool does.
The power of faith in God and Jesus is limitless.

The power of faith in God and Jesus is limitless.
And I'm sure you run your household well - I was referring to broader society, in which basing decisions on faith and not reason would be an unmitigated disaster. And I'm also sure that most of the decisions you make on behalf of your household engage rational decision making, not faith.
Why, if you "appreciate science as a tool", do you then place it in binary opposition to faith? Why don't you recognise that the two are entirely separate and unrelated?
Actually, you're not my friend and you don't know me at all, so that is entirely presumptuous and condescending of you. Ego is not my problem. I am utterly aware of my meaninglessness in the universe.
The power of faith is not going to rescue the planet from resource depletion, rapid change in the carbon cycle or toxic pollution. The power of faith is limitless only within the confines of your mind. When your "faith in true love" can resurrect the thousands of species we are killing every year, bring the carbon cycle back into balance, nourish the soils, and restore our depleted natural resources and ecosystems, let me know.
BTW, I'm going to leave this here because it is a pointless discussion.

Well, I feel that I am your friend. I would help you if you ever needed anything, and would love to have a friendly chat, maybe a beer if you ever make it to San Antonio for a GTG...you are a fan of David Robinson, and any fan of DRob has gotta have some good mojo in him.
I tell you now that I am not your enemy. Of this I am certain.
As for your viewpoint the the fate of society being an unmitigated disaster if the decisions were faith based instead of reasoning based...well...how far has this reasoning brought us? Has reasoning ended world hunger? Has reasoning brought us world peace? I believe there is more evidence that reasoning has led to this 'unmitigated disaster' that you speak of.
I do not place science in binary opposition, forgive me for the confusion, but I do have opposition to the thought processes of those that place the entirety of their faith in science alone.
Let me also add that you sir, are NOT meaningless in the universe, for you are one of God's children. Your glory in heaven can be as great and as everlasting as you wish it to be.
And contrarily to your last points, the power of faith WILL be the salvation of this planet from resource depletion and toxic pollution.
I will agree with your 2nd to last statement though...that "The power of faith is limitless only within the confines of your mind."
Whatever you truly believe...so shall it be.
I choose to believe in true love. I know you said it is pointless to continue our discussion, but if that is the case, then I'd just like to end on a good note.

Let me ask you something Ruff, and I pose this question to any and all that wish to answer it.
What drives you each and every day to do the things that you do?
Is it your heart, or is it your mind?
It is my belief that our heart is our driving force and our mind is but the tool we use to accomplish the goals that our heart has set forth for us.
That is why it is very important that our hearts not be in turmoil.
For a heart in turmoil, leads to wreckless and unwise decisions.
While a heart at peace...well, that leads to tranquility, patience, wisdom.

He's been posting on Twitter (@jesus) for a while now. He has an IPhone too btw.
A few days ago my mom sent me a text that only said "He is here." I was like, "Who's here? *thinks for a second then gasps Jesus?" Turns out my cousin had just had her baby and had sent a text to my mom and my mom was passing along the message without explaining it fully.
So there you have it, my cousin just gave birth to the second coming of Jesus. Pass the message along. :downspin:

I have no fear of death. I will enjoy every minute that I am blessed to live on this earth with my family and friends, but when I am called home, I will be at peace. And we are all part of something greater. We just get lost in the day to day meaninglessness sometimes. We have forgotten our true roots. We have souls my friend. It is meant for us to get back in touch with our true nature...to unlearn what we have learned. To sleep and rise again as better people, each day and every day of our lives.

I can try and shed a little more light to your premise...
First of all, I agree that the heart is the driving force...I share your opinion...
However, the world is in terrible shape---and is at the same time a perfect world.
Things just are what they are--it is humans who label it as good,bad,violent,peaceful,overcrowded,etc...
The earth was here before us and will be here after us---although we will generally trash it--maybe even destroy it...but then it will regenerate itself, heal itself and then pretty much....go on.
The problem with humans being driven by their hearts is that hearts get ...I guess the word is...clouded?...blinded?...
What I mean is that when you have a human being who is driven by his heart--but his heart has been clouded with illusions, desires, addictions, ambitions..then what is really leading that person is a false or clouded heart...like a blind person driving a car...sooner or later that person will do some damage...to himself and to others.
What causes this blindness...well it can be anything....
beliefs--you can be so sure of a belief that you assume it is fact...for example a religious zealot who believes that the bible is the ultimate truth and he will NEVER let anyone tell him different...then he goes around trying to convince others that they should also believe in EVERYTHING in the bible....
some believe a book or a testament or a dogma so much ---that they will kill for it---in the name of their god, their allah, their jesus....whatever
this kind of a driving heart has been polluted and will never see truth---because to see truth is to be open...what happens when someone makes a conclusion ...then every door is closed to any other truth he might find because he cannot go against what he has been convinced is the only truth...for example again--the bible...
there is a story about a young widower who lived with his 5 year old son...
the widower returned home one day to find his house burned down and his son lost.
Near the ruins of his house was the charred corpse of a child that he believed to be his son and he wept and wept. After the child's cremation he kept the ashes in a bag and carried them with him day and night.
But his son had not actually perished in the fire. He had been taken off by bandits, and one day he escaped and returned to his father's house.
The boy arrived at midnight, when his father was about to go to bed, still carrying the bag of ashes.
The son knocked at the door . ``Who are you?'' asked the father. ``I am your son.'' ``you are lying. My son died more than three months ago.''
The father persisted in his belief and would not open the door. In the end the child had to leave and the poor father lost his son forever.
When we believe something to be the absolute truth and cling to it---we cannot be open to new ideas. Even if TRUTH itself is knocking at our door.
There are people in the world with such strong beliefs who are running this world....yes it is their hearts that drive them everyday...
but these blinded hearts are doing more damage than actual evil people who are out to intentionally cause evil in the world.

Very good stuff mystix.
It is my belief that what happens to all of us is not that our hearts get blinded, but that they get wounded. Unfortunately, our hearts are often wounded by those who should be it's main protectors, our parents or guardians.
When that pain is not relieved by love, then it begins to fester. It begins to grow from pain...to resentment...to anger...to numbness.
The most dangerous people in this world are those with this numb and dark heart. For they have no feelings. They have in fact, turned their heart off...they are the walking dead. They will feel no emotion...no remorse...no guilt, because no one has ever felt for them...and these are most usually the most heinous of murderers and rapists.
All because they did not receive the love they needed and so badly desired as little children.
Most all of us are on a level that is not quite that dark though.
However, the premise remains true.
What gets clouded therefore is not our hearts, but our minds, as a result of the turmoil in our hearts.
We then see all the other things gone wrong in the world and start to accept them as the way it is and the way it should be and the way it will be forevermore. This leads us to make poor decision in our own lives as we let the outside world influences be a main influence to our own personal choices, actions, and desires.
We therefore become blinded to our true nature, which is what we are as innocent children...which is a loving nature and a peaceful nature. This is our spiritual roots that we so often lose contact with as we get older.
We learn the behavior of depending on our minds for answers instead of our hearts for answers. There are many times when we go against our true instincts and do the wrong thing instead of the right thing because of this.
We know it's wrong. We feel it's wrong. But we do it anyway, because we justify the action in our mind somehow.
That is not to say that all of our mind driven decisions are the wrong ones. Contrarily, we often do make the right choices, as most human beings are not jaded to the point where they wish to inflict pain and damage on other human beings purposely.
The usual trap we fall into is that we seek to please ourselves at the expense of others, but in a way that we justify to be harmless. A 'what they don't know won't hurt them' mentality. But we will know. And every step we take in the wrong direction is a step closer to that dangerous numbness.
I think you bring up a good point in the dangers and pitfalls of hanging onto an absolute truth. The key here is to pick the right one.
The right one, is that True Love Conquers All.
That is the ultimate absolute truth that can save all of us alot of pain in our lives and in the lives of others if we would just hang onto it with all of our might.
Take care. :toast

Don't be silly. Jesus does not have it in Him to be vengeful. That is the 'other' god.
He willingly gave His life for us. He could have at anytime spoken out, "Hey! I'm not the Messiah! Just Kidding!" and His earthly life would have been spared.
If you recall scripture, He prayed for His executors and tormentors..."Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do!"
When He returns, it will be a glorious day for all that believe.
For all that have true love in their hearts. :toast

Loop 410 partially opened the Westbound lanes at Perrin-Beitel today, and it looks like it will be totally opened and done in a few weeks, with just some center barricade and lighting work to be done. Of course that means it is the end times. 410 hasn't been completely construction free across the North side since about 1995. Looks like we only get a bit more than a year to enjoy it before Jesus fucks it all up.
