Texas? How are you a Boston fan? :lol

Just because people might not be able to open up credit cards and other things in your name doesn't mean that your SS can't be used for other purposes. I mean, shoot, I'm in the military and pretty much have to give out my SS to everyone, but I'm not going to put it in a public forum and literally CHALLENGE people to screw with me.

The best thing about those Lifelock commercials is that the guy who put out his social security number had his identity stolen.

I really find it hard to believe he put his real SS out there, I hope he didn't throw random numbers out there and they get used and they belong to some poor guy who gets fuck.

I know the interwebs are full of dumb people but no one here made a post saying "Hi, I'm from Nigeria..want to make money" to even provoke this.

In March 2010 LifeLock was fined $12 million by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), "to settle charges that the company used false claims to promote its identity theft protection services, which it widely advertised by displaying the CEO’s Social Security number on the side of a truck."[16][17] FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz, referring to the LifeLock TV ad showing the truck, said that "the protection they provided left such a large hole … that you could drive that truck through it.”[18] LifeLock will pay $12 million to settle charges by the FTC and 35 states that the company's Identity Theft Prevention and Data Security claims were false. [19]

In May 2010 the Phoenix New Times reported that LifeLock CEO Todd Davis has been a victim of identity theft at least 13 times since 2007, which is 12 more times than has previously been known.[20][21][22][23]

Did you guys know that as soon as that original Life Lock commercial aired with that dudes SS number on it, the challenge was accepted and his identity was jacked within hours.

Way dumb.

I wouldn't necessarily worry so much about credit cards, or phone contract gained with your SSN; I'd worry about the poultry companies and the cattle companies in nowheresville, that hire illegal aliens with illicitly gained numbers. The beauty of these companies is that they hire anyone with a number. The fraud rings that use these numbers, are anywhere between 35-100 people, whom work for a company for about a month with that number and then move on to another company to do the same.

Three years later, the IRS and Social Security Administration, along with any other state's income tax collection agency, mail you letters asking you to pay back the thousand's of dollars you owe to each state and to the federal government. This goes on for as long as your number is circulated. In some cases, that can last 25+ years. Everytime you get that letter, they threaten you with lawsuits, penalties and jail time.

I highly doubt, Lifelock will last 25 plus years.

And no, you cannot get a new SSN.
