Do any of yall get together and play basketball? I play with a group of friends and some cousins around the university, occasionally. Anyway I was just wondering if any of the members on this board played regularly. I am on a forum for football and they get together and play organized games. cookout and drink beer afterwards. yup

I ball in a league. Teams pays 225 and play 8 regular season games and there's a tournament. Every team has a motif. Got the G's, the gymrats, the longboarders, the hicks, and gues we r the stoners. Good times

I look like I just walked out of a M.A.S.H. unit when I play ball now. Right knee sleeve, left ankle brace . . . I should probably get a sleeve for my right elbow. When I play pick-up I have to tell those young guys to stop throwing me oop passes because I can't dunk anymore. I can still ball though. It just takes me longer to recover than it used to.

I just to play basketball with some of my boys but during time they stopped showing up either cuz of work or gf. Two or three of my friends had to play with wangstas and you know how that is. We also played flag football with close friends at rosedale park but they also stopped showing up, plus flag football is not real football. I almost ended in a fight because I tackled some dude and they don't allow that shit.

I play in the Shreveport, La city leagues they have here at my base. I know when I was in San Antonio, we used to play at St. Marys, the Chapparal, and Hawk at Lackland. Alot of highschool players seem to go on base and play alot. Of course that was like 8 years ago and I'm pretty sure there are other places to play, but I have to agree that renting out gyms is the way to go..

We used to get together and play games here on Spurstalk but its been a long time. I organized them sometimes or LJ would organize basketball tournaments at times as well.

I no longer live in San Antonio so I can't do that anymore but I'm looking forward to playing in a 30+ league were I'm at now. I finally can be one of the old guys that plays dirty as shit.

Leonard, we usually play the halfcourt at the Reserve around 9 or 10. We could play earlier if yall wanna run. I'm alright, im not a scrub, but im better at football. I play with my cousin and a couple of his friends, they all played in a league together and HS ball. Got another friend from ClearLake who used to ball there who comes out too, when he's not making excuses to hang with his gf. you know how it is. none of us really suck, we usually play at least 4 or 5 games and Im not a pothead.

but anyway, im in the Valley until Aug 12th, then I'll be back in town. I'll message you next week and well set it up. Any of the other people here reading this are welcome to join. I also have a few friends that play at the JCC and I hear its cool, but i dont have a membership.

The spurstalk tournaments back in the day were a lot of fun. I only remember running organized 3 on 3 though. I live in round rock now but I'd make an effort to make it down for an organized Sunday game.

I play 2-3 times/week and try to shoot around at least 5 times per week. It's the only way I can stomach cardio without boring myself to death. If anyone hoops in the Austin area and is at least semi-competitive, I'm always looking for a good place to play.

cantthinkofanything
08-06-2010, 11:04 AM
I don't play many games at all anymore. Sometimes, I'll play in the driveway and play this game where I shoot from about 40 feet. If I make it, I move in closer. If I make that, move in closer, then to the deep corners, etc. Kind of like Around the World but with more difficult shots. If I miss, I have to grab the rebound before it bounces twice. I then have to shoot from the spot where I got the rebound. If I make it, I go back to the spot where I first took the shot for that round. If I miss, I have to go back to the 40 foot spot and start over. Most of the time, I change the rules so I can use 2 bounces or I get two chances for a putback.

When and where do you tend to play? I'm up in North Austin myself and haven't been able to find many decent courts here, let alone pickup games. I haven't played in a couple months as a result.

I'll play on the Riata courts occasionally since I have a friend there, but technically am not supposed to. Aside from that, I used to have a nice halfcourt off Shoreline, but have since moved away from it and have been dead in the water since.

I've been playing almost exclusively at the brushy creek community center off of RR 620 and Great Oaks Dr. The majority if the mcniel HS varsity plays there frequently and they keep my 25 year old body in shape. I've played a few times at the lifetime fitness off 620 and there is usually decent competition but I refuse to pay the 70-80 buck/mo membership.

I've got my ear to ground for any competitive leagues in north Austin and would love to join one with a good reputation. I'm down to ball with anyone in Austin who has some skill and likes to compete.
