None will be FNT starting PG.
You mean Nando will be the FNT starting PG? Cos he's the only one left (I thought Diot had said he wasn't coming to the Worlds).
I don't know if it's badly prepared practices, the different pace and athleticism, but there should seem to be a lot more injuries with NTs in general (not only the French one) than in the NBA. Players are going down like flies.
Cuban prevented Nowitzki from going to the Worlds, Noah/Chicago pretty much agreed on the same, Parker/Spurs as well, Turiaf/Knicks as well, etc.
I think if fewer and fewer NBA players participate in national team play it will create a trend that it's not worth playing for NT anyway to win "second division championships" since the best players won't be there.
Bruno

Yes, it was "Nando". I don't know how "Nando" has turned into "None".
I'm not sure there are much more injuries with NT than with NBA teams. Nothing happens in the NBA during the summer so, when a player get injured with his NT, spotlights are on him. An injury that happens during the regular season among all the games draw significantly less attention.
NBA season are very long and there is a FIBA event each summer. I think it's legitimate for players like Parker or Dirk to take a summer off. Because of the qualification system for the Olympics, this year was the good year to take some rest. Turiaf has also serious health issues with his knees. If he wants to be back at a good level, he needed to take the summer off.
The situation is very complicate and far from ideal for NBA franchises, NT and players. The FIBA and the NBA should try to work out something new.
I'm also dubious about the Noah situations. I think that the core of the problem is that Noah isn't that interested in playing with FNT. I'm not surprised by that since he has nothing to do basketball wise with France.

There is currently a qualifying tournament for the 2011 Euro:
http://www.fibaeurope.com/cid_KNce8jInH7Qj1EsyH5rjn2.compID_qMRZdYCZI6EoANOr Uf9le2.html
What is the most noteworthy is Italy starting their tournament with b2b losses. They shouldn't get their qualification for the 2011 Euro this summer and will have a last chance next year.
It's a huge surprise to see a country that was very strong for years in Europe being in a so bad situation.
Sanikidze plays for Georgia. They are 1-1 and Sanikdize averages 12/10 in 36mpg.

Pretty decent numbers for Sanikidze, but that 10 rebounds would seem to suggest he's playing at the 4.

Mahinmi injured his finger today in practice and is out for 10 days. Because of that injury, he could be cut of FNT for the WC. This guy has some kind of serious bad luck.
Meanwhile, Greece and Serbia have had a "friendly" game in Greece:

One injury is bad luck, 2 injuries I guess could be back luck also, 3 or more injuries is a bad trend for professional athlete. Injuries in my opinion is the one thing that held Ian back as a spur not Pop.

The number of injury a player has doesn't tell the whole story. What is also important is the kind of these injuries. A finger injury isn't telling at all about an injury prone trend. It's hard to see more than bad luck in it.

The 12 french players for the WC:
Andrew ALBICY, Nicolas BATUM, Yannick BOKOLO, Fabien CAUSEUR, Nando DE COLO, Boris DIAW, Mickaël GÉLABALE, Edwin JACKSON, Alain KOFFI, Ian MAHINMI, Florent PIETRUS, Ali TRAORÉ.
Ian came back faster than expected from his finger injury but it's a very average team to play a WC. I hope one day, all the players will play. On the paper, it's a scary team with Parker, Beaubois, Mickael Pietrus, Noah, Turiaf, Diaw, Batum, Gelabale, Florent Pietrus, De Colo, Diot, Traoré... Only Spain and USA have in theory a better team.

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers have advised injured forward Andres Nocioni to skip the upcoming FIBA world championship because of an injured left ankle.
Nocioni, a 6-foot-7 forward, was scheduled to play for Argentina.
After an MRI exam on the ankle, the Sixers team doctor recommended that Nocioni stop all basketball and impact activity until the team opens training camp at the end of September.
Upon Nocioni's return to Philadelphia, another MRI exam will be taken of his left ankle.

Agree, Portland isn't a great situation for young players. The main problem is that their owner doesn't care of losing millions of dollars. Each year, they buy picks for cash and the result is that they don't have enough playing time available for all their young players.

Knowing that, the fact that Batum has consistent PT is a nice achievement for him. I hope he will have a fully healthy season I'm very interested to see what kind of performance he will bring.
You know, if they really wanted people to give a rat's ass about USA Basketball, they should start by not airing games on paid, speciality channels like ESPN Classic. They make it difficult even for the people who want to watch to watch.

Montenegro, Israel, Great Britain, Macedonia and Belgium are qualified.
There is still one spot for the Euobasket available, remaining teams will have a tournament next summer. If Italy failed again to get it, it will be disaster.

FNT is bad this year. A lot of players are out and, since France isn't country with a great basketball culture, there isn't a lot of depth.

That could get interesting.
If France beat New Zealand tomorrow which is quite likely even if you never know wit FNT, the scenario for the Greece/Russia game is:
The winner will face Spain in eight finals and USA in quarter finals.
The loser will face France in eight finals and Argentina or Serbia in quarter finals.
I can see both teams trying hard to lose the game.
The only problem with that is that the New Zealand/France game will happen after the Greece/Serbia game. If Greece lose against Russia, I can see France tanking to avoid Greece and play against Russia who is way less strong than Greece. :downspin:

Serbia vs Croatia: Serbia is more talented and Croatia is a weak team mentally wise.
Spain vs Greece: Greece without Papaloukas doesn't have enough offensive firepower.
Slovenia vs Australia: Australia isn't deep enough and Maric has been too bad this summer.
Turkey vs France: France won't score against Turkey great zone defense.

Slovenia was hot from the outside on Sunday as they defeated Australia 87-58 to advance at the World Championships.
The Slovenians made 16 of 33 three-point attempts.
Primoz Brezec of the Bucks had 12 points and Suns guard Goran Dragic added 10 points and eight assists for Slovenia.

Spain and Greece both eliminated. I really don't care who wins now.

Great game. Serbia's youth is awesome.
Even if there are some great teams in Europe like Turkey, Spain or Greece, the true heart of European basketball is in Yougoslavia and Lithuania.

2 great games in a row. Milos I'm sure can do whatever -- and whomever -- the hell he wants for the rest of his life in Serbia, I imagine . . .

Me too, but I still care about who loses.

I'm rooting for Euopean teams because it will make the qualification for the 2012 Olympic games less hard for FNT. Turkey seems to be the team with the biggest shot at beating USA, I hope they will be able to do so.

agree. if this Serbian team stays focused they will be a big fish at the 2012 Olympics and for years to come. they especially have a huge pool of young big men, that goes far beyond what we see at this WC and who already are or could develop into quality player. (Raduljica, Marjanovic, Musli - just to name some)

The Lithuania/Argentina game confirmed that the 6.25m FIBA three point line is a joke.
It's great that they push him back to 6.75m but I fear it won't be enough.

Someone other than KD will have to show up for the Americans or they'll have big problems with Lithuania.

Lithuania and Serbia are improving a lot when it comes to basketball, especially Serbia. In a few years, their youth olympic team members who won gold are probably going to be part of their national team on a yearly basis.

Fuck Spain. They have a so crappy attitude.
I also hate how they are now stealing young players from other countries to put them in their youth NT.

Thanks for the info.
Speaks volumes about the level of American interest in this tournament that the semifinals are relegated to ESPN-Classic.

USA-Turkey it is. Would have been more fun if it was on Thanksgiving.
Not sure how much trouble the Turkish team can cause... at least they are playing at home so that should be enough motivation for them.

The game between Turkey and Serbia was just great. Direct eliminations games have been half fun to watch half blowout.
Turkey has a lot tools to create troubles to USA. They have tons of size and a great zone defense. I fear they have an emotional letdown after today's game.

Very good sign for the Turkey :
Nene and Varejao really won't make a difference considering Splitter is playing exceptionally well and Brazil's guards are shooting lights out.
USA will still win this by 20, imo.
And the game ended by a win by 2 point :lol
