What a royal screw up from Anderlecht last night!

I am already nervous for tonight's game of AJAX playing Dynamo Kiev.
It's the most important game in the last 5 years for Amsterdam.

I called DirecTV today about getting Fox Soccer Plus in our bar and it's $200/month!!! GEEZ! I'd love to have it, but that is just silly.

For perspective, our normal bill with the Sports Package (all regional Fox channels, all ESPN channels, Fox Soccer Channel, GolTV, etc) is only $187/month with 4 HD recievers.

I can get the entire MLS Season package for $99/year, but for Fox Soccer Plus it's $200/month?!?!?!?!?!

IMO, it's NOT worth it, especially for that freaking price. It's seriously mostly reruns of matches already shown live on FSC (which also reruns everything they show), Championship soccer (which is the 2nd division of English soccer) and a bunch of Rugby.

anyway here was the prize money for last season

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1019611/Inter-tops-UCL-payouts

Champions League winner Inter Milan's £48.8 million ($85.03 million) payout was the biggest share of £746 million ($1.3 billion) distributed by UEFA to the 32 clubs who competed in the group stage last season.

UEFA says that Inter earned more than £29 million ($50.53 million) in prize money and £19.6 million ($34.15 million) from the television rights pool.

Manchester United was the next highest earner with £45.8 million ($79.79 million) - even though it lost to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals - because British TV deals are so valuable.

Bayern, which lost in the final, earned almost £45 million ($78.39 million).

Maccabi Haifa got the smallest share with£8.5 million ($14.8 million). It lost all six group matches and UEFA's current TV deal in Israel is small.

Groups A and G will be interesting. Forza MILAN! Madrid again this year, but fuck it, they got 4 points out of them last year.

And it's quite disturbing that some people are writing off Inter already (they are not your typical Italian club). Rafa Benitez is a damn good manager and they have basically the same squad as last year when they humiliated top clubs in their own home during the knockout stages. Inter will be back in the semis this year, if not more.

As the pessimist Milan fan that I am, I say Real Madrid and Ajax pass by at least 3-4 points. Unless Milan sign Robinho or Ibrahimovic, I don't see them getting past 6th place in Serie A and the Group Stage in Champions. What a disappointing offseason for the Rossoneri. After 3 years one would expect much better from Galliani and Berlusconi, and it would start by getting a good manager. It all went to shit when they got rid of Ancelotti

I agree totally
with the moves ac milan made they have to be a top contender to win it all. pirlo is fully healed coming off injury in the WC but if you watched that final game when he came in, even tho he wasnt 100% he made a difference. He will have a field day with these attackers.

inter milan on the other hand is still an amazing ball club put together by an amazing manager. if managed properly they can still compete. im sure cambiasso and zanetti have something to prove this year.

I don't get the Messi hate, he produces about as much as can be expected of anyone. IMO his national side struggles were more to do with the f'd up way Maradona was using him, more as a playmaker and not finisher. He's a finisher that can make the assist, not the other way around. He really hits his stride on Barca with a guy like Xavi to control the midfield and get the ball to him in prime finishing opportunities where he excels. Yesterday was a perfect example, his 2 goals (especially the 2nd) were prime finishing opps where he netted then he flashed his passing ability on that last min lob assist to Alves.

Yeah, overall a decent game, considering all the injuries. Arshavin should have made at least two goals in the first half alone. I'm a little bit worried about the defensive midfield, though. Both Song and Denilson seemed a bit off in recent weeks.

I'm starting to think Pep is the problem in many of these situations. He's an awesome coach, but he's butt heads with many players. The way he insisted Ibra be shipped out to the managers on the cheap was a bitch move, imo.

Guardiola has always been very stubborn in relation to guys he thinks might fit his playing style.

When he first came to Barcelona he decided to wave Ronaldinho, Deco and Etoo, 3 of the most important players in the team when Rickard was the coach. Funny thing was that at the time no team really showed any interest in Etoo so he ended up staying and doing an amazing season in witch Barcelona won all the trophies.

But the following year he saw a chance to get rid of Etoo so he traded him for Ibra and a lot of money in a very one sided deal favouring Inter Milan. Then this year Guardiola and Ibra didn't even talk to each other so he had to go as well.

it's pretty clear the pattern and the type of personality a player has to have to be coached by Guardiola or else you won't be in Barcelona for a long time.

valencia is a top4 side in la liga, even though they are trash atm due to the clubs debts and selling of players like villa and silva before the season, which got that qualified into CL, they have nothing to lose and much to gain in the tournament. Outside of barca n rmd, they are better then the rest in la liga with the current squad....they go as far david albelda can take them :D:D:D

I'm just trying to say that maybe just maybe the lesser teams from Spain aren't as bad as most of you think, it's just that Madrid and specially Barcelona are really that good, when Barca or Real win a game by 3 or 4 goals you're all saying that "La Liga" is a joke and things like that, when the truth is that those two teams would probably dominate any other league in the World, just look at the way Madrid controlled both games against the Italian league leader, or how Barca did the same to Arsenal last season.

No seriously, I wouldn't use a one game sample to come to that conclusion. Sevilla progressed to the knockout stage last year and was promptly cockslapped by Moscow. RM hasn't done shit recently in Europe.

Barca showed they could be controlled last year against Inter. I don't think there's any evidence to believe Barca and RM are heads and shoulders above any of the other elite teams in Europe, even though Barca is probably the best right now.

title: Why Barca is the best of all time

If you watched the game again and counted the number of times a Barca player gave a ball away or made a mistake, I doubt you'd find more than five mistakes. Barca was nearly perfect on the ball. Then look at the goals they scored. World-class goals, created by fantastic passes (or passing combinations). Then look at the number of goals --- 5 --- they scored against a world class Real Madrid side loaded with gifted, physical players. What other team has beaten such an opponent by so many goals in such perfect fashion? No one I know of. On top of this, Barca was nearly perfect defensively as well. Madrid rarely strung more than 2 passes together and rarely had the ball on Barca's half of the field. Madrid really struggled to do anything with the ball. And again, that is an excellent, star-studded Madrid team. I, for one, have no problem saying that that was the best performance I've ever seen.

I'm not going to get into this debate because I'm out of line, but I can say I agree with the bold. I've never seen a better performance myself.

lol bush league

No seriously, I wouldn't use a one game sample to come to that conclusion. Sevilla progressed to the knockout stage last year and was promptly cockslapped by Moscow. RM hasn't done shit recently in Europe.

Barca showed they could be controlled last year against Inter. I don't think there's any evidence to believe Barca and RM are heads and shoulders above any of the other elite teams in Europe, even though Barca is probably the best right now.

Maybe not Real (although I'm sure they will make at least the semis this season), but Barca proved the last 4 or 3 years to be the best team in the world, even when they lose they dominate games.

Barca and Inter played 4 games last season, Barca won 2 and Inter 1, and the Catalans dominated everyone except the one in Milan in the semis, (where Inter turned it around thanks to a clear offside goal), and in the game in Barcelona the ref disallowed a valid goal for Barca.

And fun!

But in 1/8 finals two clubs from the same country (or same group) cannot meet. So for Arsenal it's Real, Barca, Schalke or Bayern.

Barca's goals against all season have been a pattern - they go four straight games with a shutout, then four straight allowing one goal, then again four straight with a shutout. The game the B players won against Kazan was the 5th straight shutout so maybe they're breaking that pattern.

Good point, Arsenal has some impressive wins. But none as impressive as the Madrid anal rape. I still see Barcelona beating Arsenal if they meet up again.

Well, I don't see why this draw (if it were to happen) should end any different than last year. Both teams play a similar brand of football, but Barca is just much better at it (they're also not as vulnerable as Arsenal on the defensive end).
Barca would be the worst possible opponent for Arsenal, in my opinion. They should beat Schalke, though, and at least could beat Real and Bayern.

Barca is going to run right over any team that gets in front of them the way they are playing. This year, there is no team that plays Mourinho's defense like Inter did, and any team that tries to outscore Barca usually comes out short by 4 or 5 goals.

AC Milan v Tottenham. Not bad considering the possibilities.. avoid the 'Big 3' in Barca, Man Utd and Chelsea for now. Although Bale will be running an absolute train through anyone of Milan's fullbacks.

Barca v Arsenal easily the best of the matchups.. although it could be another cricket score for Barca with the open style of game.

Milan need Tiago Silva and Pato back, and for the rest of the D to stay healthy until then. Cassano will be a nice addition to the attack if the transfer were to happen.

And they must take advantage of the first match at san siro, because the atmosphere in the return leg will be something not seen in the CL in a long time. Anything can happen, and Tottenham are very fickle at times, but I think experience will overcome everything and Milan will advance.

Guess we'll have to wait and see because there is still a long of time left
