There's going to be cart racing in the game as well..... Origionally they where going to hold off on it until 6 but decided to go ahead and put it in 5.

http://ps3media.gamespy.com/ps3/image/object/857/857126/kart.jpeg

Also, there will be a type of track generator.... you give it a general idea of what type of track you want to race on and it will randomly generate one for you.

Jesus, I wasted so much of my life on the original GT its sad to think about.

This game is going to kill everything and anything that has ever come before it. It will be the benchmark of all racing games for years to come and I wont be surprised if not one of the competition ever comes close.

A must buy...and I am not even that much of a racing game fan, or a car-guy for that matter.

I'm not just buying the game, I'm investing probably $150 on a Logitech GT27 from eBay. It's going to be worth every penny for a game this good. :tu

Yup, I remember I quit the original GT for almost 6 months because I couldn't pass the 'A' driver license tests (good god I was finishing up elementary school :lol). When I returned to the game and eventually beat it, it was the best feeling I ever had in a video game.

I've bought all the GT games and this will be no exception.

I've been holding off on buying a PS3 until this came out.... looks like its almost time to break down....

Forza 1 and 2 where cool on the Xbox and 360 but I dont like how they restrict cars and races to classes.... Dammit, if I want to take my 1000hp tweaked out ride and race against some stock mini coopers and ford fiesta's, I should be able to!!!

Pretty much a +1, especially the last sentence.. my brother always played a shitload of racing games, wasn't my thing. But this game just looks incredible, looks like something with endless replay value. 1000 cars, 70 tracks, on-line play.

Damn those hackers! grr

http://exophase.com/ps3/source-ps3-hack-prompted-gran-turismo-5-delay-18927.htm

An insider close to Sony is chalking up the recent delay of Gran Turismo 5 to the recent PS3 hack that has made waves over the last few months, pinning blame on a last-minute SDK switchover. This comes following yesterday’s revelation (http://exophase.com/e3/gran-turismo-5-delayed-slightly-18885.htm) that GT5 would miss its November 2 release.A source on the Blu-ray.com forums suggests that looming fears over piracy prompted the setback. Shortly after PSJailbreak and its variants made the rounds (http://exophase.com/ps3/psgroove-released-open-source-ps-jailbreak-17952.htm), SCE issued a mandate requesting that titles with a post-October release date must be compiled with 3.50 SDK libraries. Here’s the post in full, which has since been removed for reasons unknown:
Like I said it is manufacturing issues. I had it confirmed today.
The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350. This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a 3 week slot big enough to make 7m+ copies of this and get them shipped out.
If you want to blame anyone, I would direct it at the pirates and hackers, SCE never had any real SDK restrictions before firmware 3.41 was compromised.
Certainly sounds plausible. While a switchover to the new SDK is hardly a big deal, you have to factor in QA testing, which can easily take an upwards of a few days to complete, depending how extensive. That, factored in with setting a revised manufacturing date, can easily lead to a delay of this nature.
Fans can rest assured, however, that GT5 will make 2010. While Sony has not yet pinned down a firm date, it’s still on for a “holiday release.”

Sony Announces Release Date for Gran Turismo 5

http://ps3.gamespy.com/playstation-3/gran-turismo-5/1133969p1.html

It's been six years since Gran Turismo 4 shipped for the PlayStation 2, and today Sony announced that the long in development and recently delayed sequel will finally find its way onto store shelves on Wednesday, November 24. And this time Sony means it.

SCEA made the announcement on the official PlayStation Blog this morning along with Polyphony Digital president and Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

http://ps3media.gamespy.com/ps3/image/object/857/857126/Madrid_Camaro_Z28.jpg

"Gran Turismo 5 is an ambitious project, with challenges and complexities which have made it our version of the Apollo Space Program," Yamauchi stated. "Satisfying the loyal Gran Turismo followers is at the heart of all of our efforts, which is why it was such a difficult decision to delay the release of the game, and one which we did not take lightly."

"I can only apologize to everyone for making you wait so long, and I hope that when you try out the wealth of driving experiences available in Gran Turismo 5, you will not be disappointed."

So in less than two weeks, Gran Turismo 5 will bring more than 1,000 vehicles, including karts and select NASCAR and F1 cars, dynamic weather effects, detailed vehicle damage, and a course creator to go along with 70 different tracks to GT fans around the world.

Great news (if true).

Wikipedia is listing it now, not that Wikipedia confirms anything as truth, but it's such a close date of release that I'm going to say that I have a good feeling about it.

10 days from tomorrow!

Got my DFGT in the mail yesterday. Booted it up on my PC (it's fully PC/Ps3 compatible), ran Need For Speed Shift, and.... oh wow.

If you even remotely enjoy racing games, you need to get a force feedback wheel. They make racing games more fun than I thought possible. Freaking awesome. The amount of detail transmitted through the car to your hands is just hard to fathom until you actually use the wheel.

Can't wait for GT5, which is supposed to be even more communicative than NFS.

I really don't see how that's possible, given the 5 years of development.

Cart, NASCAR, rally, real-time weather effects, night to day and day to night racing, full damage modeling on 200+ cars with a 1000+ car library, 16 player simultaneous multiplayer online, a full track creator, and the most advanced physics engine ever produced in a race game, maybe any game ever created...

GT5 is going to be the racing game of the year and probably the best racing game of all-time just from that alone. I mean, come on. It's Polyphony. These guys know exactly how to make cars behave like they would in the real world. I can't see this game getting less than a 9.0 from any review site, and will probably accumulate a number of perfect scores along the way.

The DFGT is obviously cheaper than the G27 - but what are your other thoughts? It has two pedals... no clutch? How does it feel overall? My complaint with these in the past have been the wheel and shifter are too light and don't feel realistic.

The pedals feel pretty light. The steering is absolutely AWESOME though. It uses the same motor as the G25. I mean, the G27 is obviously better, but I can't throw down as much as my Ps3 is worth just to play one game. :lol

There is a ton of strength in the force feedback... all you want really. It's definitely worth the cash.

Post to craigslist asking if anyone wants to trade their Ps3 for a 360. You never know, and it's worth a shot if nothing else.

Or you could just ebay/craiglist your 360 to get some $$$ and get a PS3. This title alone is going to make it worth having a Playstation.

I kinda bought a PS3 just for this... I knew I'd get one eventually for the blu-ray player, but I needed a game to push me over the edge... this is/was it. Just didn't have to plan on waiting 12, 13 months to get the game :)

It has only been a year, huh. It feels like it's been much more... that said and I still never finished season 6. I think I'm on like championship race 10 of 13 or whatever. I canceled my gamefly subscription winter/spring this year and pretty much played FM3 and nothing else and still never made much of a dent into the game.

How have the GT games been in the past online (or did GT4 even have that much of an online presence?) Is it loaded with the mix of d-bags who bitch/moan if you touch them or are in their line and then the dudes who try to wipe as much of the field out in the first turn? I know that's pretty much every racing game online... don't know why I'd expect any different here.

It's the two most realistic, detailed racing games on the market. Not unfair to challenge the standard holder just because she's aged a bit. Forza 3 is the reigning champion of racing games unless GT5 unseats her.

I gave up for now... family is in town for the holidays so I freed up the tv. Did the first five or so license events and and then the first two races in the very first series... whole thing probably took 60-75 minutes or so. Load times were brutal. Shouldn't be my PS3, thing is a "new" slim bought about a year ago, and I hardly play anything on it at all, so it's not like the HD is full or anything. Hopefully it'll pick up/speed up as I go. That's strange for you guys. I only had a ~10 minute install to start the game, and I've only had a couple of decent load times, oddly enough for time trials on the B license.

Strange. Sounds like the game is still working some kinks out. I haven't heard of load times being a problem from any review sites though, so this is odd.

Also: Holy, crap. If you like this game at all, you must buy a wheel. It's 10 times as enjoyable when you can actually feel the bumps in the track under your car as you bend into a corner. This game on a joystick wouldn't even be fun by comparison.

I had a wheel for... man, what was it called... it was a Tokyo Street Racing game on the Dreamcast. That was the only time I've ever had one... MIGHT have to invest in one. I assume there isn't one out there that's universal for 360 and PS3, right?

I got a chance to play for another 30-40 minutes before bed last night. I had no idea what I was doing when I first started and bought a horribly crappy ultra-lightweight and struggled early on. I finally got enough to buy the ford focus and was able to start ripping through the races. I think I got through the first 4 series in the beginner level or whatever it is... starting to get a hang of it.

Load times were quicker the second time around when I played the races again that I couldn't win the first time with my ultralight. That said, the improved ones were still probably comparable to the FM3 load times...

Other than the new cars and new interface, I cant really tell much of a difference bewteen 4 and 5 when driving.

it is possible to have pre ordered this game 3 years ago, lol

I've only played maybe 2-3 hours worth so far... but just some more thoughts.

I know that FM3 was really altered so a casual fan could jump on and play/progress through without much hassle... but that kinda spoiled me. It allowed for picking events that I was eligible to compete in quicker/easier.

With that said, I only realized how to upgrade/improve cars right before I turned off the ps3 the last time I played (don't know how I missed it)... I read somewhere the improvement system was weak and I just overlooked the whole buying general parts and applying them to the cars. So now that I know that, I can at least upgrade the cars I have to make them competitive in the various series.

On top of that, FM3 REALLY spoiled me on searching through and finding appropriate cars. The GT5 takes way too much work and effort if I'm looking to buy a car that has X wheel drive and X HP, blah blah blah... so that's kinda disappointing.

Overall, as of now, I don't find it to be any better than FM3 and I didn't have to wait years for it :) I have not tried online yet... I don't have the equipment to utilize 3D and I also don't have a wheel, so I'm just comparing heads up using a controller. I also haven't tried any of the special racing styles yet (nascar, rally, etc)... those seem to be under utilized though. I had hoped of the endless amount of racing series like FM3 had across the different styles in GT5, but that doesn't seem to be there (unless I'm missing something).

So I guess the take home story... semi-disappointed because I had hoped for so much, and there are a couple of things here and there that take away from it a little. I'm sure I'll run into things I prefer on GT5 but for now, they (GT5 and FM3) are pretty equal games to me.

Forza is an easier game to pick up and play.

GT5 is the better racing simulation.

That's what I'm gathering. I haven't spent much time with Forza 3, but from what I have played:

Graphics: GT5 by a pretty solid margin. Looks significantly more realistic than F3.
Sound: I like both here, so I'll call this one a draw. Getting hit by another car in GT5 sounds horrible.
Gameplay: That's a toss up. Forza is meant to be an easier experience, while GT5 is meant to push your limits as a driver to give you a realistic car racing experience, second probably only to iRacing.com. I would never play GT5 without a wheel, now that I have.

They're both great racing games. It all depends on what you want.

Polyphony Digital Details Gran Turismo 5's First Update

http://ps3.gamespy.com/playstation-3/gran-turismo-5/1137624p1.html

Gran Turismo 5 finally made it onto shelves last week after five years of development, but based on comments from franchise creator and Polyphony Digital boss Kaz Yamauchi, the studio still needed more time. Now the studio plans to add a number of features and options it wanted to include in the game with patches and updates.

Via his Twitter account (translated by the good folks at Andriasang) Yamauchi said a significant update is on the way for GT5 early this month, with the game's controversial mechanical damage system at the top of the list of fixes.

"Mechanical damage options will be implemented in a new update for GT5 coming early December," Yamauchi tweeted. The system currently rewards in-game experience with more detailed crashes and the update will allow players to select the severity of damage as a menu option.

A rundown on the other features, options, and fixes Polyphony Digital is working on:
-- A no HUD option
-- A YouTube video upload feature
-- Face tracking available outside of arcade mode
-- New lounge functionality
-- The ability to take leisurely drives around town
-- A credits and experience system for online play
-- A less congested, faster online experience

GT5 85% with comments of irregular graphics and bad interface. This is quite bad since since they even sold a demo at full price

Forza 2 with a 89%, and Forza 3 92%, these 2 games were able to be made and sold before GT5 alone could be.

There are several valid criticisms of GT5. The decision to split cars into premium and standard models was ill-conceived and disappointing. I would've been happier with 400 "premium" cars than 1000 cars in where 80% of the models look marginally better than cars in GT4 and which includes 20 Skylines, 15 Lancers, etc. Many standard cars look decent; many look terrible.

The AI has not progressed much from when I played GT in 1998. It was okay back then - AI driving on rails is harder to overlook now. Someone at GTPlanet said it best, "the AI drives as if you don't exist". They don't respond to your presence, and no problem ramming into you endlessly if you cross their driving lines.

A-Spec mode has too few events. B-spec as a separate mode probably wasn't the best idea, considering you can't fast forward like in GT4 (and GT4 gave you the option b/w A and B-spec). There's a few physics issues that I won't get into much now.

The fact that after 6 years there is no visual and mechanical damage out of the box is disconcerting.

That being said, the pure driving of the game is excellent, as is always the case with GT. But I'm simply talking about the aspect of you, your car, and the road.

I still need a lot more playing time with this, but it's sits at an 8/10 for me. GT is the better driving sim; Forza 3 is the better game.

That's like saying Bioshock is a bad game because the menu's are slow to navigate through. :rolleyes You don't buy a racing game for the interface. You buy it to drive cars really fast.

The shadowing problem is an ongoing fix that will be patched soon. It's disappointing, but hardly game-breaking, as you suggest.

Forza 2 with a 89%, and Forza 3 92%, these 2 games were able to be made and sold before GT5 alone could be.

And they aren't nearly as expansive or as comprehensive as GT5.

Pretty sad for a game being designed since the dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

GT5 is also being held to a much higher standard than any driving game ever released. Every single flaw is being scrutinized. If "random company X" had released a game like this from nowhere it would be getting 9.5s or 10s. Even the reviewers are saying that GT5 is on a scoring system all it's own, because it's going places that no other racing games have before.

From what I've seen, as you progress deeper into the game the AI frees up a bit and becomes more responsive. But this is a valid critique of the game.

Easier said than done for 1000+ cars.

This might be partially true, but GT5 is still a better driving experience, and that's what really determines the quality of a racing game, IMO. The amount of detail you can feel in the wheel is absolutely astonishing. And it looks like Polyphony is dedicated to continually improving GT5. If this remains the case, the ceiling of this game is really, really high. We'll just have to see.

^^ Yup, I'm willing to be patient as PD seems dedicated to continually this game with patches. I don't really even like comparing GT with Forza, because the different in driving simulation to very clear. However, I do have to compare it to previous iterations of GT, and with the respect I feel they've failed to progress in many ways (and regressed in a few). But GT games are a long-term experience, so I'm still optimistic.

No, YOU don't buy a racing game for the interface, apparently it's enough of a problem to hinder a game as this is a common complaint for the rest of the community.

I guess the shadowing problem is acceptable to you for a game that has been in the design stages quite a few years. They even had a beta which was sold to the public in the form of a full price demo to work with and they still failed.

It's a flop due to the expectations people had for this game and it doesn't deliver on those. I also never said game breaking, because it's not game breaking but again the expectations were set high by the community and Sony itself and they failed to deliver.

So, whats everyones best strategy for making money?

So far, I've just been running b-spec mode doing the high speed ring on the Turbo challenge in expert mode.

I read that another, possibly quicker way, is to buy a Lotus 111R, buy the racing kit from the auto place, supe it up and run the British Lightweight race over and over in B-spec. Nets 22,200 credits in about 6:30 minutes each race.

That is also a really fast way to level up a B-Spec driver BTW.

I agree with you, Its a decent game but no where near what the developers were hyping it up to be. It was a first day buy for me but after watching someone stream it there were some things that I noticed that irked me. So I decided to hold off and rent it to see for myself. I was very disappointed and have now put this game on the back of my to-buy list.

I probably wont be buying it untill next year sometime, maybe when it's on sale or something.

The challenges give a lot of money as you go up. I won 70K for an intermediate go kart race. I was doing the advanced go-kart race which would've netted me 100K+ for a 4 minute race, but I inexplicably spun out in the last turn.

I did the GT world championship with a modded Audi R8 4.2, and won the Bugatti (~900 bhp). Light mods made the Bugatti over 1000 bhp - added some slick tries and won the tuned championship (180K total), although it's kind of long.

You're already able to race in expert B-spec races? What level are you at?

Yeah, I feel the same.... Im just using it as a cash cow when Im not actually playing.

The problem I have with it, even with 2 drivers, one lvl 18 and a newer one lvl 19, you have to give them a "super car" vs the competition in order for them to compete. They stick to the driving line like glue and dont know how to fucking pass when you tell them to. It has to be a straight-away and you have to have a much more powerfull car for them to actually pass.... They dont know how to brake late into corners or cut off drivers. The most infuriating thing is when they start to cut off another AI, they let off the gas and let the driver pass them up again. :bang

Once you get your B-spec level high enough to go to extreme events, its almost impossible to win unless you have a REALLY high level driver (like close to 30) because the cars are so powerfull at that point and your driver is a dumbass.

Hopefully they patch it.

Maybe I will try my next driver with a more "hot" attitude, maybe they wont be a bitch about roughing it up in the corners.

That's the main reason I'm still a level 3 B-spec - your driver is somehow dumber than even the opposition AI. All the races I've won was with an overpowered car, because your drive lacks the ability to drive even as well as the opposition. I even lost a race on the final turn lap/final turn in the FF challenge, because my driving was strolling in his rally car. Outrageous.

I won that advanced GO-Kart challenge, 114K credits. But Jesus, driving those carts are infuriating. If the AI rams you from any side, you spin out. If you ram the AI, YOU still spin out :lol
