Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith is on the trading block, according to an AOL FanHouse report.
Smith, a six-year veteran, is entering the last year of a contract that will pay him $6.03 million this season.
Smith
Though Smith has been mentioned in trade rumors before, a source told AOL FanHouse that the Nuggets' sudden willingness to move the shooter is tied to the team choosing not to renew the contract of vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien.
Warkentien has been one of Smith's largest supporters within the organization, the source said, having orchestrated the deal that brought Smith to Denver in 2006 via a trade with the Chicago Bulls.
Smith was runner-up for the 2008-09 Sixth Man Award but regressed last year, averaging 15.4 points per game on 41.4 percent shooting.
Smith has had issues in the past with Nuggets coach George Karl and was seen visibly sulking on the bench as the team was knocked out in the first-round of the NBA playoffs by the Utah Jazz this spring.
His brash behavior was also on display following a Game 4 loss to the Jazz, as Smith called out his teammates on Twitter saying, "You play selfish you lose selfish that's all I'm saying about the game!"
Smith is the latest Denver player to reportedly have a limited future with the team as sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher earlier this week that Carmelo Anthony will likely part ways with the franchise.

Joe Dumars trades Greg Monroe and Ben Wallace for JR Smith, making it the first team with no player over 6-10.

JR? Do you guys really need him?
PG-Fisher, Blake, Vujacic
SG-Kobe, Shannon Brown, Vujacic
SF-Ron Artest, Matt Barnes, Walton, Ebanks
PF-Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Caracter
C-Bynum, Theo, DJ
I mean I think Vujacic adds some poise and stable shooting. If you got JR I think LA would become a team with loads of talent (even though they are already stacked) but at the same time have too many nutcases.
Yeah I know Phil and Kobe will keep them in line blah blah blah. But I really feel like JR is not a risk worth taking. He would be behind Kobe and Artest in the rotation anyways. And who says he does any better than the tough boy (Barnes) and the athletic freak (Shannon Brown)?

Sasha has had one good year..... 2007-2008. Was a contract year. Other than that, he's pretty much been what the Lakers didn't think he'd be.
you can take DJ off that list and with the Lakers offense, they really don't need a true PG. I'd love a possible lineup of .....
Smith
Bryant
Artest
Odom
Gasol
That would be a pretty good defensive and athletic lineup ...... and if there's one person who could keep hs head in the game, it's Phillip

I'm all for trusting the headcases at times because usually they have a lot to give. Rasheed Wallace was one of the best power forwards in the game and he was great for us in Detroit. Ron Artest is one of the best defenders in the game and look what he did last year. JR Smith is just really athletic. Doesn't seem like something I would take the risk on.
But if this did happen I would trust Kobe at point more than JR. :lol

That is why NY is the best place for him. He can ride the subway and blend right in.

The Knicks or Nets would be a perfect fit for his dumbass. Low basketball IQ, doesnt try half the time, can score 30 pts any given night, big city with a lot of rappers to drink & smoke blunts with haha etc....btw LOL Denver, it took them this long to figure out how low IQ their team really is..Same goes for Melo, he might be a great offensive player but he takes many plays off on defense & doesnt strike me as the leader type. His wife Lala wants no part of Denver either, shes in NY/LA most of her time kicking it with Kim Kardashian & all her celeb friends.

I think for the Lakers, a deal would never go down because Denver's not that stupid to deal with the Lakers and two, there's no way they're taking Luke Walton's God awful deal.
But having Smith come off the bench as Bean's back up would be awesome. Between Fish, Bean and Phil, he'd be a model citizen. Phil would constantly fuck with this dude. That right there is enough to put him on the squad.

Smith playing PG? The other 4 guys would be asking for the ball while Smith launches 3 Pointers with plenty of time remaining on the shot clock. Is that really what you want to see?

They should have traded him after he drove for a layup over Melo's motionless body.
