we all know post season is slow, so let's find something to do for funzies:
you have 9 points you can distribute around to each player, depending on the hypothetical statistical outlook of their season. what are your picks? i am considering that the big 3 are healthy all season long, and that their averages and playing time does not fluctuate significantly. thus, i am looking at only the x-factor players.
1. Richard Jefferson
pick 1 (1 point): 9.4 pts, 5.3 reb, 1.8 ast, below avg. defense of SF opponents
pick 2 (2 points): 12.3 pts, 4.4 reb, 2.0 ast, avg. defense of SF opponents
pick 3 (4 points): 14.5 pts, 6.2 reb, 2.5 ast, avg. defense of SF opponents
2. James Anderson
pick 1 (1 point): 4.5 pts, 2.5 reb, 0.9 ast, below avg. defense of SG opponents
pick 2 (2 points): 6.8 pts, 2.8 reb, 1.3 ast, below avg. defense of SG opponents
pick 3 (4 points): 9.5 pts, 3.2 reb, 1.8 ast, avg. defense of SG opponents
3. Tiago Splitter
pick 1 (1 point): 8.4 pts, 5.7 reb, 0.6 blk, below avg. defense of PF/C opponents
pick 2 (2 points): 10.1 pts, 6.9 reb, 1.0 blk, avg. defense of PF/C opponents
pick 3 (4 points): 13.5 pts, 8.6 reb, 1.3 blk, above avg. defense of PF/C opponents
i know that playing time is not included in this - maybe it should be - just assume that these players outperform everyone else for their position, except for the big 3. (e.g. anderson plays better than hill at SG - yes, i know hill is not a true PG, but that's where pop plays him more than half of the time). if this is appealing, maybe i can do another one, more detailed with most stats, with all the players on the team.
as far as methodology goes, i looked at the averages of nba players at their position, rookie averages - also based on position, as well as my own estimates of what the player is expected to do/perform during the season. rj's numbers for options 1 & 2 are taken from his play-off avg. (1) and season avg. (2). defense was totally my call after watching the players and reading on draft express what to expect.
remember, this is a what-if game, not your own propaganda bs. if you don't like it, don't play. hope you have fun.
cheers:toast
