Some strong words from a colonel in the US Army Reserve, and I'll say that my personal experience certainly can vouch for some of what he's saying, though I have nowhere near the bird's eye view he does.

The start and culmination of each day is the commander's update assessment. Please ignore the fact that "update assessment" is redundant. Simply saying commander's update doesn't provide the possibility of creating a three-letter acronym. It also doesn't matter that the commander never attends the CUA. When I went TDY to the AOC, we had three briefings every morning: the first briefing to talk about what they were going to brief to the general; the second briefing WITH the general to talk about what to brief to NORAD, and finally, the third briefing with NORAD. This took up the better part of the morning.

Worth a read.
