It didn't come out this year, techinically, but I just discovered it at the beginning of the year. Up From Below by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. Something about their jubilant hippy vibe gets me pumped.

Are you serious? Are you really serious?

HA HA OH WOW.

When did MGMT, LCD Soundsystem or Arcade Fire become obscure bands? Maybe to somebody who listens to top 40 radio all the time.

Wait, that's not an excuse. MGMT already had two hits with Kids and Electric Feel.

Please....

MGMT is the director of Terminator: Salvation, LCD Soundsystem is what I had to buy when my laptop's sound drivers went screwy, and I beat arcade fire 5 times at the Diversions on 410 and fred rd back in '94. You made those bands up to sound cool.

It's not a question of obscurity. Nobody's named a great album.

This hasn't been a good year for music for whatever reason. Certainly not from MGMT or Arcade Fire.

Seriously, though... could you even answer that?

I've listened to what little is available to listen to from people who make albums -- there just seems to be more interest in DJ music this year. If I had to give out awards, I'd give some out to Matt Pond and Teenage Fanclub's new ones, but I don't actually think they're that great -- they just happen to not suck as badly as Arcade Fire's heavy-handed mess, for one.

I usually catch up near the end of the year, but my 2010 listening has been limited too. I've listened to a few albums but most of them only once or twice. If I had to pick a favorite I guess it would be Local Natives' Gorilla Manor, since it's the only 2010 album I can think of that I've given a repeat listen or two.

I agree. Bands like Interpol, The Strokes, and Bloc Party release one decent album then fade into obscurity. All these genre-revival bands are just flashes in the pan.

Why is it that on every "music" thread... redzero and IronMexican decide they are going to stick around the thread to criticize what people post?

It's beginning to be pathetic... trying to get people into liking what you like.

Deftones: Diamond Eyes
Stone Sour: Audio Secrecy
Attack Attack!: Attack Attack!
Emarosa: Emarosa
Dirty Little Rabbits: Dirty Little Rabbits
Klaxons: Surfing the Void
Eminem: Recovery
Korn: Remember Who You Are

With Deftones, Stone Sour, and Attack Attack! being my favorites.

Since we're getting proggy, I'd also like to throw in Cynic's "Retraced." Its 4 reinterpretations of songs from their "Traced in Air" album and one new song.

Completely incredible, Cynic is one of the best bands out there.

ive look into alot of new venues of music and what not, but i just cant "keep up with the times." pretty much all i play now is neil young, the band, the stones, CCR, the eagles and pearl jam.

i listened to floyd for awhile (never got into zep) but roger waters pissed me off so much that i stopped listening. he's a great musician, but hes such a whiny control-freak.

i guess these days with the evolution of technology, there's really nothing more to sing about. i think its because the technological "revolution" is shared by all generations, so it doesnt have the rebelious, passionate fodder for music like the 60s and 70s youth had.
