Only a superhuman can make these kind of goals. Wonder how much his left leg was insured for???

i agree messi is currently overrated, but roberto carlos is the poster boy of being overrated for your highlights. I'll give him durability, stamina, speed and power, he certainly wasnt crap; but as a defender he was nothing special and on offense, despite the beautiful highlights, 90% of his game was forcing a hard, low strike- neither a cross or a shot- and hoping it would deflect in or to a teammate. My all time team would have many brazilians, but definitely not R. Carlos, not even on the bench.

IMO, maicon and dani alves are poor man's roberto carlos, but same type of player- good physically, good technique, extremely predictable and poor accuracy (despite the good technique). I admit I dont watch as much footy as i used too, but has anyone ever seen dani alves make a decent cross? maicon as least will make 1-2 decent ones for every 10 he attempts.
as far as recent sidebacks go, from brazilians, IMO
cafu >>>>>>>>>>>>>> roberto carlos.
you wont find the flashy highlights, but he was more all around, smarter, just a much better player.
interested to see if any brazilians agree

I'm not brazilian but I live there and I agree Cafu >>>> carlos. After the 2006 WC and Carlos sleeping while Henry did his show, the carlos love in Brazil went down a lot

Roberto Carlos? Very overrated, there are several backs who are way better than he was. Cafu for example, but also Maldini, Thuram, Lahm etc. etc. Indeed he could shoot hard, but not very precise. As far as I know, ten years ago there was sort of a freekick contest which Zidane won. Besides that, I think Pierre Van Hooydonck could also been mentioned among the best freekickers of all time (just look at the Uefa Cup run of Feyenoord several years ago).
