We should care... Scola is an excellent post scorer which is something we will be lacking in 2 years. Splitter does not appear to be as good of a post scorer as Scola is...

Scola so far is a beast. First round MVP for sure. But after Brazil there will most likely be Lithuania and they're a not a piece of cake. Just as USA after that.
And it sucks that you need a medal to be the MVP of this tournament.

Scola has ten times the offensive repertoire that Oberto has, and the good thing for him is that it doesn't rely on physical ability, it's all skill and great BB IQ.

What I dont understand is, what is the point of these threads now?
Should we have traded Scola? No. Was it a mistake? Yes. Do people who start these threads just want to hear that? What is the purpose?
The Spurs have made tons of mistakes. Should we have traded for Charles Smith? No. Should Manu have fouled Dirk? No. Should Rod Strickland have thrown his behind-the-back pass against Portland? No.
I don't understand why this particular mistake keeps getting brought up. It WAS a mistake. So were all those things I just mentioned, by the front office AND players. Should Raheed have left Horry during the Pistons series? No. Do we need a thread every couple weeks to remind us of that? Of course not. So why do we need this many threads about this particular error?
Seriously, I would love someone to tell me what the desired outcome of starting a thread like this is. What's the benefit?

And Salmons and Stephen Jackson and even Raja Bell.
but the Spurs throughout that time have always fielded some of the best teams in basketball. Have only missed a few playoff appearances in my 30 year lifetime, and yet somehow I still feel the need to complain about the ones that didn't work out. Is that the kind of thing we need to be worrying about?
These were all mistakes or trades that were prearranged that might have gotten a few more rings for the Spurs or they might meant that the Spurs didn't have room for the likes of the players that were here to get us the rings we actually did win.
On balance the Spurs have ended up on the positive side of such transactions. Taking Blair, Parker, Manu, Tiago, and Hill are all the times the spurs more than got it right.

Considering it reached two pages, I would think some posters are still interested about the topic. You don't have to participate if you don't feel like it. The desired outcome is some meaningless filler chatter to waste time until the season actually starts. Nothing wrong with that, IMO.

let me add couple more:
1) what if jermaine o'neil takes the "reportedly great" spurs offer after the admiral retires? idk what the offer was, but his 04, 05, and 06 seasons were great and would have compensated for him sucking for the rest of the contract. it's quite likely that the spurs win 2/3 or even 3/3 with jermaine.
2) what if the spurs signed malik hairston to a long deal? (este o gluma)

Haddadi is actually a very solid big man. He's young, he's long, and he's a legit 7'2 guy. He's not going to be anything spectacular, but teams lacking with size will have a lot of use for Haddadi.
I believed two years ago, he led the Olympics in rebounding. I would take Haddadi in a heartbeat if I were the Spurs.

There's no finals MVP in the olympics, is not like it would have mattered anyway, we beat them by like 40. The real final of that tournament was against the US and there the man was Manu, like against Serbia and like in every important game that this team had to play in the last decade.

To share some new information, I guess. Not that I start those threads or carea ll that much, but at least people that do are trying to bring something new to the community, even if its just sharing an encounter with a Spur.
Bringing up something that's been discussed ad-nauseum doesnt really seem to serve even that purpose. I guess certain people get some pleasure from remembering that they were right about a personnel move 3 years ago. Maybe that's possible. Or maybe people just like watching other people flip out over it. Just trying to figure out the motivation and why so many people continue to dwell on THIS particular error , that's all.

yah the spurs passed up josh howard in 2003, they drafted a guy who may never play a game in the NBA except taking trevor ariza who was picked next on the board in 2004,and 2005 maybe the spurs pick David Lee except Ian,maybe 2007 we drafted Marc Gasol except Marcus Williams
Scola would of helped out in 2008 against the Lakers in WCF tbh we really needed his scoring in games 1 and 5 when we went on scoring droughts if we win those 2 games we win the series not too sure if we would of beat boston especially Ginobilis ankle at that time.

I wonder if this is how the Red Sox "curse" began? People kept whining about losing one player, and how it ruined the team. People in Boston blamed that one bad trade for the team being a loser for 66 years.
Scola is a good player. He's not Basketball's equivalent of Babe Ruth. Stop it. Really. Just stop it. Support the team and enjoy yourself. Go to some games and yell like crazy - make sure we have home court advantage. Throw a beer on the other players when they are walking to the locker room. File a fake paternity suit on their starting....
Sorry. Got carried away.
Seriously people, there really is life after Scola. But not until you accept the fact that he's gone.
