Earlier this summer, someone published a why-the-Spurs-will-stink preview that included the statement that Tony Parker was “past his prime” as part if its argument. NBA.com is currently running an article under the title, “These players could be looking at a big decline this season“. The article includes Tony Parker in its list of (potentially) declining stars, although its author takes a moderating approach in his discussion of Parker.

Meanwhile, Tony Parker has spent much of his summer working on his game with Spurs coach Chip Engelland, carefully following an intense summer regiment designed by the Spurs coaching staff.

Tony Parker is a 28 year old NBA All-Star heading into a contract year — talk of decline seems silly, at best......

Parker may have peaked in '09 since he had a 55 point game on 61% shooting, 42 point game at 72%, 39 pts on 63%, and had 24 games where he scored 25 points or more.

He's still in his prime but I don't see him surpassing such an impressive season. Hopefully Parker adds some more weapons to his arsenal though and he's got plenty of motivation to get back to a star level of play for $$$ and to get back at the media.

Even with the mileage on his body and his game being heavily reliant on speed and quickness, there's no reason to think that at 28 Parker is declining. Especially when last fully healthy and in a rhythm, he was a legit All-NBA player and second tier MVP candidate. Barring a career altering injury (which he hasn't suffered), you don't go from that to all of a sudden declining at his age.

Has he peaked? Maybe. I definitely don't expect him to average 22 ppg next season, but that's because this team likely won't need him to. They have a lot more firepower than the team did two seasons ago. But in terms of level of play, I think and expect that next season he will resemble the player of two seasons ago.

The part in the article about Temple/Gee doesn't necessarily make sense, if he'd said they would do better than Fin/Bogans/Mase I would have understood.

Is this years team (as currently constructed) younger than most Spur's teams over the past decade? There are a handful of players in their thirties, like Tim/Dice/Manu/Bonner/RJ, but there are also many who are 20-28, like Tony/Splitter/Blair/Hill/Anderson/Neal/Gee/Temple.

If Spurstalk had it's way and Ian/Hairston were resigned but Bonner wasn't, this team would be OKC young.

P.S. I'm so bored I averaged the team's age, and it only 27.3. Huh, not as young as I would have guessed.

From recent tv interviews ive seen of Tony latelt he seems to be in good shape. He looks leaner and motivated to win this season.

It just really makes me wonder what happened last year. Sure he was injured alot but sometimes injuries happens from lack of focus and not being in great shape. Parker last year seemed to be out of shape alot.

I remember a couple of games this past year noticing that he had gained some weight and seemed slower than usual. Also hopefully by now he has developed a 3 point shot.

I doubt it though....
