To be real with the topic. The one constant in practically every "who's the best" argument is Kobe Bryant.

Kobe vs. Vince
Kobe vs. AI
Kobe vs. McGrady
Kobe vs. Whomever

Along comes a dude who's probably the most hyped player ever coming out of college or high school and he not only lives up to the hype but according to the stats and numbers he puts up, exceeds them. He practically beats Kobe in every single stat and is now looked upon as a threat to Kobe's so-called "number one" status.

So most Laker fans see that and freak the fuck out. You go to certain sites and they kill LeBron, some of it being warranted especially after "The Decision." That pretty much will sum it up. Just calling it how I see it.

I love the middle of the road “ see I’m a reasonable Laker fan role some of you try to play”…Fail…:lol maybe it's for acceptance I don't know.

You're premise though seemingly thought -provoking is seriously lacking any real depth.

When Kobe started out in his shadow of Magic and started to emerge in 98 - IMHO this wasn’t about stats but about titles and guess what it still is about titles. Every reasonable / knowledgeable Laker fan already knew that stats wouldn’t be the ultimate measuring stick because Kobe played with a ball dominant center who the team was built around at that time. No way he can have the exact same stats as MJ when playing with Shaq, but what’s more impressive his that he compares to MJ in spite of Shaq. Stats for Kobe are nothing but icing on the cake.

Kobe actually played against MJ so he’s in a better position to be compared against the best. Kobe’s 5 titles is the modern day measuring stick and Lebronze is nowhere near that. Sure Lebron’s put up numbers for 7 yrs as the main guy in the Leastern Conference so he should have decent stats but what happens when for the first time he’s forced to share the ball with a another ball dominant player and then yet again with another forward ( Bosh) who wants to play as well…If he still puts up the same numbers as he did in Cleveland then I’ll give the homo some credit.

Kobe played with Shaq for many years and his stats “suffered” ..when Kobe didn’t have the players he needed to contend for a title in the West he went on scoring binges the world has never before seen nor will see again. So Lebron’s 7 yrs in Cleveland don’t impress me he made it to the finals so he had sufficient help.
This my friend is all about the rings, we realize that Kobe is 7 yrs older than Lebron so we don’t expect Kobe to play like he did when he was 25 but the difference between the two players is that while they both recognize what they must do to continue to play at a high level one just believes it’s achieved through hard work and developing his game while the other thinks it’s obtained through playing with his buddies.
Kobe was sandwiched between MJ and Shaq. The media wanted the world to hate Kobe because he came along so soon after MJ after they had all been singing 'kumbaya my lord' and 'I wanna be like Mike' for so many years. Shaq was accepted after MJ because of his girth and the fact that he was a physical specimen that was completely opposite of MJ…and because of that alone was it ok in the media’s eyes to accept Shaq. The fact that he cracked jokes and tickled their little white assholes with feathers only helped the love Shaq mantra.

When Kobe came along the thought was who is this skinny kid and how dare he threaten MJ’s legacy. Kobe put in his work won titles, inching closer to MJ and the hate rolls down hill…
Next the media determines that enough time has passed to finally get over MJ despite Kobe’s emergence as prolific player. Kobe would have finally been accepted until it was revealed he liked fucking white girls in the ass. That was the last straw. No white girl and definitely not in the ass.
Lebron comes along without a title to piss on nor a window to throw it out of and we’re supposed to oblige the media and call this clown (who’s constantly dancing like a fag) – King. It’s now acceptable to like the MJ heir apparent.
Fuck stats this dancing queen Lebron is not a throwback and your premise is completely lacking and is flawed.Kobe is a soldier a trooper and a champion. - rack Koolaid_Man :lol

If Kobe he ever did this I'd disown him:

Look at this from their perspective. Kobe Bryant is the arguably the best player in the league. He would be, hands-down, except there's this guy from Akron, Ohio. He's a media darling--everybody loves him (sans this summer), while Kobe was known as the rapist and everyone tossed the Lakers aside in 2004. Kobe is constantly knocked for his relationship with Shaq and Phil Jackson (in his first tenure with the Lakers). Look no further than this site to have to defend Kobe's role on those teams as if he were Rick Fox or some other specialist on the team.

When the Pistons and the Spurs were elite teams, Pistons fans seemed obsessed with the Spurs. Granted, that was after a Finals matchup, but this is about an individual and everyone's favorite for the best player in the league.

So here were are again--after hearing about how great Lebron is and going no further than the Eastern Conference Finals in back-to-back 60-win seasons, while the Lakers have taken 2 titles, it would seem that all the attention and glory should be on Kobe's head. Like how Shaq was considered the better player than Tim Duncan in both his MVP seasons.

With the Miami Heat forming the "super team" and the heir-apparent to the Eastern Conference Crown, it has again become relevant to the Defending Champion Lakers. After all, if East always meets West, and the Heat and Lakers are favored in each Conference, it will be Miami and Lebron James taking the Lakers title from them.

if titles are stats which one could argue in favor of then absolutely you're right. But your arrangement is based on stats mine on titles; not mutually exclusive...

Kobe has lived up to his end of the bargain. The Nike puppets commercials, the fans, the media hype, the comparisons. He's been waiting on the MVP for 3 straight years and the MVP has left him hanging...simply refused to show up to the big dance...If the MVP doesn't show up to the dance this year then let them ( all of Kobe detractors) EAT CAKE!!!:toast

Great players will get talked about. That's why there's a Kobe thread stickied at the top of this forum on a Spurs messageboard. And it's not just Laker fans. Mavs fans were obsessed over LeBron for much of the summer, jokes or not. ESPN obsesses over LeBron, so people talk about him. Hell, Michael Jordan hasn't really been relevant as a player in over a decade and he still gets talked about. Great players will get hype and discussion. That's just how it is.

For what it's worth, I never saw or heard Pistons fans get "obsessed" over the Spurs. When the Spurs beat the Pistons in 2005, it sucked but I didn't start rants and raves over the Spurs. They deserved to win.

I was guilty back in his First Finals run, but waiting for him to make the "leap" to undisputed best player on the planet status.

I'm only obsessed with the when and the why.. LeBron James has yet to make the ascension into the legendary type of player that he is capable of.

He has shown and given us stats/highlights for 7 years, he is great individually, not unlike Kevin Garnett in Minnesota. Now that he has taken his immense talents to Southbeach, it is only a matter of time before he gets his first ring (yes, he will get one before Clevland Dan Gilbert), but his legacy will forever be diminished in the eyes of the media supporters (now naysayers) because he spat in their faces by taking 'the easy way out' and going against the idea they've been selling the last 7 years.

At the end of the day, who cares really? A lot of the great ones switched teams in their prime, Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, Garnett just to name a few.. has that diminished their legacy? Probably, in the eyes of many those players will never have the same aura of invincibility like that of a Bill Russell, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Hakeem Olajuwon and/or Michael Jordan (let's forgive them for the Wizard/Raptor years) - just thank god we have Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant to appreciate in the modern era.

2004: 35-47 (18-game improvement)
2005: 42-40 (first winning season since 1997-98)
2006: 50-32 (Cavaliers first trip to the postseason since 1997-98, first series win since 1992-93).
2007: 50-32 (Cavaliers first trip to the NBA Finals)
2008: 45-37 (made second-round of the postseason despite major changes to the team mid-season).
2009: 66-16 (First division title since 1975-76, Franchise-record in wins, made the Eastern Conference Finals).
2010: 61-21 (Made fifth-consecutive Eastern Semifinals appearance, a franchise record, second-best record in franchise history).

Total: 349-225 (.608 or 50 wins a season).

Artest had that same [Kobe fixation]. He did something about it. Got in that shower and peeked at the goods, then went and nagged Odom to talk to the good doctor, Dr. Buss about him.

Long story short: it got straightened out= Odom got his buddy/Kobe got his Luca Brasi/Durant got free lessons/JRich got humiliated/Pierce got what JRich got.

Shaved.

two things....1.) not worried at all bout my Negroid and Spaniard Laker squad...2.) not as pathetic as this negro Lebron...this homo has given us material for the ages..the only player he'll be surpassing is John Amechi...Lebron is well on his way to a post basketball male prostitute career, he has the charisma and body language for it....check it out and check out how Kobe tries to subtly distance himself from Lebron's behavior...Kobe's like what the fuck is wrong with you dude....

cl4vXgwsxPM

and notice how Chris Paul is trying his damnedest not to look at Lebron's ass while the camera his on him...Paul is right where he wants to be and he know's he has a good look...I even see a sly smirk on that faggots face...Lebron turning all his crew into homo's...:lmao

Wrong side of 30 Kobe.

Though ahead of MJ's pace.

Listen up you intellectual lite weight...the wrong side of 30 would be over 35...you really should stick to 1 or 2 word responses because anything outside of that requires thought and your parents didn't bless you with that ability.
:lmao wrong side of 30 is 35?

He was the best player, became a 2-time MVP, led the Cavaliers to the Finals in 2006-07, and became the All-time leading scorer in franchise history in the most successful era of Cavaliers basketball.

It's not media hype.
Darrin, you are a pretty knowledgeable poster. However I'm not buying any of the above.

a) Like the Sp*rs with TD, the Cavs tanked to get him. The then Coach Lucas eventually was fired because their management wanted the coaching staff to play rookies and less experienced players. Of course he wanted to play the vets because he was trying to win. Their agenda: draft the HS phenom from Akron, OH

b) There are or were several lottery picks on that very Cavs squad before LeHype even got there. So of course, they will amass a pretty good record with lottery picks and LeHype

c) The EC, to put it lightly, sucked ass and it's been like that for years. Do you think LeHype would have won an average of 50 games in the WC? Maybe these last two years - I'll give you that, but not before these last two years. In the EC, you could win 42 games and be at least a 6th seed. That changes this year because it seems like there will be a little more comp.

d) The year they got out of the EC (as you noted above) was a fluke. Don't let the thrashing he single-handedly gave you guys cloud your judgment. Why? Tell me what happened when he played a real team from the WC? That's right - he got swept

e) Look at the number of fouls he has called against him as compared to other "stars" both present and historically (even MJ - go figure). In short, they don't call fouls on him. So he has the ball in his hands for 85% of every possession when he is on the court, plus he gets a pass from the refs

f) I find it strange that for the 1st 5 years in the league, he never even sniffed all defense 3rd team, now all of a sudden he is 1st team all defense 2 years in a row? WTF? :lol

LeHype is pretty good, I'll readily admit that. However, he's done jack shit as far as I'm concerned to warrant the kind of hype he gets. Kobe has done way more than he has and the fact that Kobe is still even relevant in his 15th year in the NBA is downright remarkable. Question, do you think LeHype will be relevant in his 15th year in the L? I don't. That's not to say he's not good - because he is. He's just been given too much too soon before he's even won his first Finals game.

We'll probably agree to disagree on this, but that's cool. The media is desperate to find the next MJ when he's been playing for the Lakers for going on 15 years. They've been hyping him up since HS. They have created a monster who has no discipline who won't reach his full potential because no one had the balls to stand up to this media whore. What a pity.

You are a dumb little faggot. Dispute anything I said before you go spouting off at the mouth. Obviously you are a new cHeat fan and I'll guarantee that were not one before STD-Wade got there. You and the cHeat are frontrunners. GTFO with this bull shit. Kid.
