There was a better chance of T Park competing in a triathlon then Leinart staying with the team.

Weird timing
Didn't he have like his first decent pre-season ever??
Was it a salary dump??
Steve Kerr
09-04-2010, 05:14 PM
No his preseason was terrible and his attitude is even worse. It wasn't a salary dump but not having a backup QB being paid like a starter is def. gonna help their cap situation in the future.

He'll sign with Seattle for the minimum to be back with Petey... If Seattle will have him, he's theirs. No doubts. Hasselbeck isn't going to be much going forward, and if anyone can fix Leinart, it's Carroll.

sons that sucks for Mr. Pretty Boy. He has to be so damn bitter with his co-star from USC Reggie Bush ...
POST USC SUCCESS
Leinart
- well um he completely a few passes here and there
- got cut from the team
Bush
- established himself as a legit starter in the NFL
- pounded out Kim Kardashian's phat white ass
- won a Super Bowl

how exactly is Bush a bust? are you really that damn ignorant?
He is not the star that he was in college, but he is far from a "bust". In fairness it doesn't take much for a player to look better than they really are in the conference that USC plays in. That is why most of their players flop in the NFL. However a "bust" would be someone like Matt Leinart who 5 years in still couldn't earn a starting spot and has now been cut from the team. Or someone like JaMarcus "Sippin on that Sizzurp" Russell who can't even ... well, do much of anything .... hell I'm not even sure Russell can even read.
Bush has been a solid starting player for the Saints and knows his role. Sean Payton learned after his first season how to correctly use Bush and he has fit in perfectly with the Saints offense. Bush is a good 10-12 rush per game back and an above average short pass receiver.

Bush averaged 5 attempts and less than 28 yards rushing per game last year, and he only started 8 games. Apparently the way to "correctly use" Reggie Bush is to let Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell do all the heavy lifting.

Seahawks won't go for Leinart
Don't look for Matt Leinart in Seattle. Persons close to the team tell me it's not going to happen.
Apparently, Seattle is satisfied with its two quarterbacks, Matt Hasselbeck and Charlie Whitehurst, despite Whitehurst's inconsistent play this summer. But the club paid a steep price to acquire Whitehurst from San Diego and envisions him as Hasselbeck's successor, and the Seahawks didn't want to complicate the situation by introducing another young quarterback.
Plus, the Seahawks have plenty of money invested in the position.
So while Leinart going to Seattle would seem to make sense from a lot of perspectives -- with his former coach at USC, Pete Carroll, the most compelling reason -- it almost surely isn't going to happen. Seattle is happy with two quarterbacks and will wait on Whitehurst. It will not jump for Leinart.

Carroll knows Leinart is not cut out to be a starter in the NFL. Leinart will be lucky to even find a team to sign with. The fact Seattle wanted nothing to do with him speaks volumes.

A running back picked 2nd overall who has never had a 600 yard rushing season, and has gotten worse every year since his rookie year is a bust. It's retarded to think otherwise.

Coach rankings...
8. Ken Whisenhunt, Cardinals
QB Matt Leinart: “Just looking back at my rookie year, what we were as a team until now — it’s night and day. That’s due a lot to his philosophy and the attitude and discipline he’s brought to us. He’s been extremely hard on me, but I think it’s helped me to be mentally tougher and I think all that will pay off for both of us.”
Wow. Wonder if Leinart still feels Whis knows best? Hahahaha...

bush is a bust because he didn't live up to his hype. sure he isn't as big a bust as leinart is but still, this guy was hailed to be the next gale sayers. right now he's a glorified return man/change of pace back. you draft those kinds of players in the 4th and 5th round, not #2 overall.

Bush wouldn't have been a bust had he been selected in the 2nd round or deeper. But for a guy who was picked 2nd overall and predicted to change the game? Yeah..he's a bust. The guy who was picked one pick after him is a bust so far as well, though if he picks up where the end of last season left off, he could turn it around.

Leinart to backup Schaub for one-year in Houston. Hahaha... Schaub is arguably a top-5 QB (1st in yards, 4th in TDs, 4th in pass %), is coming off a better season than Warner and started 16 games last year.

The Cowboys didn't use a 2nd overall pick on any of their running backs, and none of there running backs were deemed the next Gale Sayers. The fact you even have to say you'd take Bush over Barber, Choice or Jones is evidence enough to show that Bush is a bust.

A bust is a failure. Bush is no failure. Your evidence that Bush is a failure is he has not lived up to your hype as the number two pick in a draft. Over 30 TD's that came from running, recieving and returns over 4 years is pretty fucking great in my book. Throw in a contribution to a super bowl team and I'll take him over Choice, Barber or Jones.

All Bush is at this point is a good punt returner, and that is a bust considering he was drafted number two overall to be an every down back, which he clearly is NOT.

You guys are fucking nuts. He is not just a good punt returner. They guy averages 4 yards a carry. Over 7 yards per catch and scored 28 TD's NOT returning kicks.
A bust is a FAILURE. You can't just redifine what a bust is.
Lawrence Phillips is a bust!
Curtis Enis is a bust!
Blair Thomas is bust!
Reggie Bush is a super bowl champion!

A guy picked 2nd overall who people toted at the next gale sayers shouldn't just be an average 4 yards per carry running back. The Saints have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, they can find guys in the 3rd round who would average 4 YPC behind that line.

A BUST wouldn't average 4 yards per carry behind any line, score over 30 td's running, recieving and returning plus have a super bowl ring. The guy is very good and he is only 25 years old.
Your entire arguement for this guy being a failure is because he was the number 2 pick in some freaken draft. And you are hung up on some folks thinking he would be Gayle Sayers. Nowhere even close to being a NFL bust. I bet he makes more money on his next contract he signs.

:lol some folks? There was tons of hype, scouts/analysts were calling him all kinds of things.
He's getting worse every year. He'll be lucky to even be in the NFL by age 30, so idk what you mean by make more money on his new contract. His rookie contract will be by far the biggest contract he ever signs. If he was a 2nd round pick he wouldn't be a bust, but he's not. He was the 2nd overall pick in the NFL draft, or "some freaken draft" as you put it. Where someone is drafted has everything to do with how much they qualify as a bust.
The superbowl ring argument is also funny. He was the 3rd down running back/punt returner on a superbowl team, he wasn't some vital piece to the Saints last year. They probably win the superbowl without him.

If you can find me an official NFL guideline that clearly stipulates bust means "failure", then I'll concede the argument. Since that's never gonna happen because bust doesn't have a definition nearly that narrow in sports, I suspect you're gonna come up with another strawman.

sons my argument was never that Bush is a star. He is a solid player who fits into the Saints system very well. I was simply comparing him to Leinart. If Bush was a "bust" he would not be entering his 5th season in the NFL as a starter and sure as hell wouldn't have a Super Bowl ring which he largely contributed to winning. Overrated coming out of college? of course ... but the media does that with EVERY player who comes out of USC. Leinart is the definition of a bust and being so overrated and having your ass kissed in college only to eventually be cut from a NFL team at 27 years old never having earned a starting spot is pathetic.

Bush is in no way a bust. As you said, he's contributed to the team's success, particularly once he started initiating contact and once he stopped putting the ball on the carpet as much. That said, he's pretty far from having "established himself as a legit starter in the NFL". Considering his draft position, your characterization isn't closer to correct than "bust" is.

Why is BR calling Bush a starter? He's their 3rd down running back, Pierre Thomas is a starter.
If you're calling him a special teams starter, then I rest my case about a 2nd overall pick who only starts on special teams being a bust.
