Unless your into the Tulsa-East Carolina game, this is the most intriguing game on tomorrow.

I think this one could be a close game for once. SMU is a high scoring team that won its first bowl game in forever last year and has a little momentum, while Texas Tech is a complete mystery under new coach Tommy Tuberville.

If Leach was still here the final score would be 66-63 or something like that.

I will be there tomorrow. WRECK 'EM!

GO PONIES!!!!! I swear to fuck, there will never be an SMU skin on here. There are so many skins that I see and go WTF because they have a skin and SMU doesn't. The Incarnate Word?? Texas A&M-CC?!

I didn't expect SMU to win their bowl game last December, and they came out and kicked ass. I'm not expecting SMU to win tomorrow, so maybe I'll get pleasantly surprised again. My hope is that SMU can at least keep it close for awhile and make a game out of it, even if they don't win.

Regardless of the outcome, June Jones is a fucking pimp and I thank God that he came here and has brought us back to respectability again.

GO STANGS!!!!

And to answer your question, this place is divided into three groups.

The UT t-shirt crew, the lol utsa crew (those are the ones who pick the random small schools in Texas), and the "bandwagon random SEC team" crew. That's why you never see any SMU skins

Well I fall under the SEC variety, but not of the bandwagon sort, that's for sure! But damn, I really wish I could sport an SMU skin during the season. :depressed

The most notable bandwagon SEC fans on this site are Ghazi and T-Pork who became Alabama fans after Alabama won a title. Rarely do you get to see bandwagoning so blatant and obvious.

The most annoying thing I find about SEC fans on this site is them celebrating whenever an SEC team wins something as if an SEC victory is a victory for their school. I understand conference prestige is important, but the way some of them become die hard fans of rival schools is ridiculous. I'd much rather see the Pac-10's reputation dip after ASU gets skullfucked than see ASU win a major bowl game.

That's because the SEC is a cult and Michael Slive is their Jim Jones.

Does the SEC feature Ryan Mallett? Then the SEC is awesome.

the fighting BUMPs look like they haven't dropped off much since the Leach era.

Remains to be seen whether they can challenge the Horns or Sooners for a legit Big XII championship like they did 2 years ago. The UT game in two weeks should be pretty wild.

Well, It was not what I had expected from our team, but in the end, our defense stepped up and made plays. I would like to point out that we need more people, like Brian Duncan did, to step up!

Go Red Raiders!

Agreed Tubbs, but that 4th and short sneak was retarded. Who do you think you are? Mike Leach?

SMU has become the master of blocking field goals. Margus Hunt blocked seven of them last season. He is such a beast. Two blocked kicks today, and there will be plenty more.

I'm happy with SMU's performance today. We kept it close when it looked like we were going to get blown out. All the first half turnovers ruined us though. And Padron not being able to finish the game killed our chances on the last drive. Overall though I think SMU showed that they have a solid team. It was an exciting finish. Maybe not as good as the ECU-Tulsa game. But it was a good game nonetheless.

What's up with Potts handing off and then running up field like he still has the ball? Is he really fooling anyone?

I can't put my finger on it as to why I can't stand watching Potts, but that might have been the worst 350+yard 4 TD 0 INT day by a QB I've ever seen.

I was very disapponted to learn that Sticks didn't get the starting gig.

That play just looked sloppy as hell. I liked the no-huddle offense but there were times it seemed like we were going to fast and it turned into a circus.

As for Sheff, it's pretty clear who the students want at QB and obviously he played much better than Potts in limited time last year. That being said, there's gotta be something the coaches see that we don't. Supposedly Sheffield had a bad summer and I remember reading an article where he even admitted he wasn't good enough to overtake Potts at the time.

*sigh* I miss the Harrell/Crabtree days

I know Potts supposedly had a good summer....winning some award at Camp Manning, but I doubt mobility is one of the QB events.

Leong looked damn good.

Detron had a decent day but still seems to perform below his potential.

It'll be good when Torres comes back. Hopefully they hold him out next week too.

Honest questions for the Tech fans here. And I'm obviously not trying to stir shit up or anything like that...

But was this the kind of game you expected? Did you expect a close game or did you expect Tech to roll SMU fairly easily? When SMU was driving down the field late in the game going for the tying score, were you ever getting nervous or did you still feel pretty good? With Padron still in at QB, I think we might have had a shot. But he got banged up pretty hard and the backup apparently sucks ass. Him taking the sack on the final play instead of at least throwing it up for grabs was complete shit.

I'm just wondering because I want to compare your reactions to some of my Tech friends. If this game is played week 1 in 2009, Tech wins by 30+ points, no problem. But SMU has done a lot of growing since then.

It kind of came out how I expected. Tech would start off strong, get a little lazy, and then pull out a victory in the end. That's usually how they play at home against non-conference opponents. So I was still feeling pretty good at the end with SMU driving. I knew they would pull their heads out of their asses one last time.

SMU is definitely for real this year though. I went to high school with the Center, Blake McJunkin. Great kid, very humble.

I certainly hope so! I wanna see if we can build off this and just beat the shit out of UAB next weekend like a semi-decent to good team should do. I will be at that game. Next three are at home, so I hope we can do some damage.

Good luck to Tech the rest of the year. :toast

I was expecting a 42-21 type game.

Aside from an SMU fumble on a punt return, Tech's crappy special team play and SMU's great special team play were the difference that almost lost Tech the game.

I don't know how much SMU football you might have paid attention to last season, if any, but SMU has become a kick blocking machine since the beginning of the 2009 season. So Tech shouldn't feel discouraged because SMU did the same thing to many teams last year. Tech just became another victim to add to the growing list. SMU averaged about a blocked kick per game and I expect about the same this year. Margus Hunt's height and length is becoming a nightmare for opposing field goal units.

As far as our kicker goes, he's got one hell of a leg, as you saw. The weird thing is that we didn't use him for the kickoffs, which was a head scratcher. The other kicker was used and he couldn't get it anywhere close to the end zone.

I was at the game in person, and I remember that Hunt guy standing out. Was he the one blocking kicks? Cause that motherfucker is huge!

haha you just missed my edit to include Margus Hunt. Yeah, he's a big mofo at 6-8. He had never played football before coming to SMU. He was an Estonian discus thrower. SMU's coaches convinced him to play football and he was used specifically to do what he has become so good at: block kicks. He only got I think 2 tackles last year. But he had SEVEN blocked kicks. The technique the SMU players have been using has been flawless.

I'm discouraged because we are still using the same weak legged kid that won the kicking contest to boot field goals. It was a nice story, but any FG 40 yards and out worries me.

That and tackling people on kick off returns is still a problem.
