I came accross an All-Time NBA Team that looks pretty impressive. Of the six players listed (a sixth man is included) only one of them is still active. That player, of course, is Tim Duncan.

Here is a link to the article if you are interested in the other selections:

Are there any changes that you would make to make this team any better?

No, that sounds about right. Magic, Jordan, Duncan, Russell, and Bird

Agree w/ Supergirl.

The 6th man competition is intriguing, you can make a good argument for a lot of different players. Young SF Horry is a good choice; deserves a HOF bid IMO even though he is butthurt @ Spurs

I don't think I would waste the 6th man spot on Horry when there are so many other choices. With clutch shooters like Bird and Jordan on the court, I woudn't be putting the ball in Horry's hands even with his great record of clutch shooting.

I think it's just a best of each position/role/coach.

I don't know that Kareem is obviously the best all time C. With Hakeem as second. No love for Russell?

The best team you could possibly field of all time:

Steve Nash
Michael Jordan
Lebron
Duncan
2000 Shaq

Gonna get flamed so hard for this lol.

You're right. That list is crazy. Nash is great but no way does he make that team. I'd even take gay Isiah Thomas over him. Where's the three point shooting? Just Nash?
Lebron??? with his give up mentality?
Shaq?????

I agree.

The consensus is Russell/Chamberlain. Not to take anything away from them, but I have a hard time believing they were actually better than Abdul-Jabbar, Olajuwon, O'Neal or Duncan. Maybe they were, I don't know. But I think it's more likely that they were just ahead of their time and benefited from playing in an era where they were like men against boys.

I've got no problem with people putting them amongst the very best of all-time, based on what they've accomplished, but I'm not sold that they were as good as their place in history suggests, either.

He's a great physical player, a real stat stuffer but it took Jordan retiring to get Hakeem 2 rings. They were a John Starks 3 away from losing to the Knicks.. I honestly think Hakeem is only a few notches above Ewing and D-Rob..

Magic
Jordan
Lebron
Duncan
Shaq

I'm sorry, everybody. I hate it as much as you do. If Shaq were in the age of Wilt, he'd have 100 points every night and have sex with 40,000 women.

If it's not Shaq, than it's Olajuwon, as much as I love David Robinson.

David Robinson is still my favorite player of all time...

After Timmy...

And Manu. ;)

The match up problem that Magic brought was, well, magical.
Jordan didn't rape that girl.
Bird doesn't have enough tricks to get past Lebron, nor could he guard him.
Power Forward...

I would rather have Duncan on the court to spread it for Shaq or Olajuwon. If it were Olajuwon at PF, he wouldn't be able to spread it for Shaq, like RJ.

Shaq>Hakeem, Wilt, Kareem, Russell and Robinson, though Hakeem probably had the best footwork of the bunch, considering footwork vs. dominant size ratio.

I am just telling you what I know.

PG: Earvin "Magic" Johnson / Isiah Thomas / John Stockton
SG: Michael Jordan / Kobe Bryant / George Gervin
SF: Larry Bird / LeBron James / Elgin Baylor
PF: Tim Duncan / Karl Malone / Charles Barkley
C: Hakeem Olajuwon / Shaquille O'neal / Kareem Abdul Jabbar

i think with prime nash, play making ability and shooting efficiency, you are force to defend him cause u cant let a guy like nash open on most possessions, even though we all know he will get burned on the defensive end cause he doesnt play defense, but how much of that defense is going to offset against his offensive game.....

i think prime gary payton or kevin johnson > nash ...then again who cares

Bird/Shaq vs. Lebron/Olajuwon

Then gentlemen (and lady) we will have our answer.

Because those little guys are too great of a defensive liability against Magic (if you've ever played basketball against someone savvy and 6 or 7 inches taller than yourself, than you'll know.)

Looking at those 2 on 2 games, I'd say Lebron/Shaq or Lebron/Olajuwon.

Though it would be a hard fought battle, I imagine Lebron/Shaq will over power and out-rebound Lebron/Olajuwon.

"The following season, O'Neal averaged 28.3 points and 11.4 rebounds. He also led the league with a 58.4 field goal percentage, which would be the first of five consecutive seasons in which he did so." -Wikipedia

This is a ridiculous premiss. You can't determine the better player by throwing them into a two on two game. Part of Bird's greatness was making every player on his team better.

Elvin Hayes was the greatest power forward besides Duncan. Malone was not a shot blocker.

I consider Hayes more of a point guard and thus not worthy of making the list over Magic.

This is a great list 3 players deep!! But, (IMHO) you can not put Shaq over Kareem. As dominant as Shaq was Kareem's best years maybe even more impressive. Plus he won the MVP when the award wasnt a bunch of crap ...

I'd put Lebron on there at SF ahead of Bird (yeah yeah Bird was amazing for his time, Lebron would slaughter him one on one)

And Shaq or Wilt the Stilt at center.

Yes. But, it's pretty tough to make those players better, though. Isolation of the weak link would probably be the name of this kind of game. : )
