not that anyone else here gives a shit about this, but anything other than the WAC falling apart and NMSU, SJSU, Idaho, and Utah St. going down to FCS where they belong would be a tragedy, a Tragedy I say!

Hawaii goes independent. Houston and SMU join the MWC, La Tech and UTSA (or someone) join Conference USA. that's what must happen.

one less non-AQ conference BSU has to share that Fiesta Bowl money with :greedy

UTSA has no business being in the WAC or even 1-A for a while, they should just stay in the FCS, join the Southland in football and build.

:nope ............ kiss of death for the football program before it even gets off the ground. No one at Utsa or San Antonio for that matter would be interested in watching Utsa play SE Louisiana, Lamar or SFA. We need all the help we can get..........better competition is a plus. IMHO at least. :hat

they aren't better/bigger than ANY of the current CUSA schools? hmm, well, CUSA would want to get back to 12 somehow, I doubt Utah St. or Hawaii would be any better of an option

Utah State would be a powerhouse basketball program in almost any conference. Too bad all the money is in football though.

why should any school stay in the FCS when it has a chance to be in the FBS?

that makes no sense.

smaller FBS schools can hemorrhage money maintaining a FBS level football team.

I don't even think BSU's football program has ever actually made the university any money yet. and they're asking for 100 million more for stadium renovations and expansions just to bring BSU's facilities and capacity up to "acceptable" by non-AQ standards :lol

UTSA can handle its own. They deserve to be FBS and whatever conference gets them will be lucky to have them. They will be a great football school down the road.

It really comes down to how much money a school is willing to basically throw away. The WAC level of spending looks like the practical limit for UTSA -- if the WAC ends up with two divisions.

2 divisions? they have 5 1/2 teams right now.

•No FCS athletics program reported net generated revenues in 2009. The median negative net generated revenue (expenses in excess of generated revenues) in 2008 was $7.9 million and $8.7 million in 2009. The net losses have increased steadily over six years.

To be fair, only 14 teams out of the FBS generated revenues over expenses.....but hopefully the point is made.

If they don't, the travel costs will suck too much. Might as well join the Sun Belt.

I agree............it may take 10-15yrs to get pretty good, but there are too many good football players in Texas that get overlooked. Utsa should be able to recruit their share. :hat

If U of H can do it than UTSA can do it.

Boise needs to go independent. If they are ever going to get credit for their talent, they have to play a schedule that doesn't include so many "filler" teams for traditional programs. I know they try their best with the non-conference schedule, but three tough games and 9 cakewalks will never garner them enough of anything to be legit contenders.

I think all non-BCS conferences should just be absolved. Let the shitty ones play each other, let the good non-BCS play each other with a handful of BCS teams thrown in.

A playoff system would solve this problem. :rolleyes

BSU can't go independent, no major programs want to come play on the blue, BSU would have to significantly upgrade their facilities and capacity, or play 8 away games a year.

BYU was probably the best-equipped team to go independent, and I don't even think it'll do them any good, it'd be a terrible decision for Boise.

If BSU actually thought they were ready for prime time, ready to throw down with the big boys, they'd be scheduling top 30 teams for ALL of their OoC games. if they can't/won't even do that, how could they possibly be better off having to schedule 12 OoC opponents every year.

MWC + Houston + SMU + MWC Championship game + 4 quality BCS OoC opponents = BSU would go to the NCG with an undefeated season

it's just that easy :wakeup
