I'd still go on another cruise after seeing this tbh.

It's sorta funny though, but probably scary for people on board. But I don't know how often something like that happens, but I can't imagine it's a lot.

I've been on a cruise during spring break and they are paradise. All you can eat buffets, drinks, tons of stuff to do on the boat. It really is great. Then of course the beaches and stuff to do when you get to your destinations is another story. Something like this wouldn't deter me from going on another one though, I just wouldn't go during hurricane season.

Are the ships as calm as they say they are? :wakeup

Well, obviously, it never got that bad on the ship I was on. :lol

It was very calm when I went though. We went to Cozumel, and various other beaches in Mexico and you can never really feel the ship swaying. The only times we felt it was when we started getting close to land, and it's very little. Once you are really in the middle of nowhere, you can't feel a thing. Funny as it may sound, the only time I, and others, noticed it was when we were in the restroom lol.

Like I said, I don't know how often ships get hit with waves like that, but I'd just make it a point not to go during hurricane season for more assurance.

Yeah, lol, I think it's because you're on an object that you need to stay still, and also because its a much smaller space than the rest of the ship so it might be more noticeable, I don't know why but that's just where I could feel it. But it was never so bad that I couldn't go lol. It really didn't hinder my ability to do anything on the ship.

Wonder if these were cyclone waves or tsunami waves? I ask because you'd think cyclone waves would build more gradually, whereas these seemed to come out of fucking nowhere!

Yeah, yeah,yeah....blame it on the ship rolling...you probably couldn't hit the bowl because of all the free booze...:lol

Haha, I wish that were the case. The booze is not free though, and that's where a lot of these cruise companies make tons of money. Drinks are like $7-10 on the boat. Sucks, but still a good time. Of course, that doesn't include when you stop off in Mexico and get all your drinks for a dollar :lol

When you pay for a cruise, you get free food (and all the time, as it's all buffet style), free iced tea, coffee, juice. Plus, any entertainment (shows, games, etc.) and clubs on board are paid for already. And of course there's a casino.

Still, even though the drinks aren't free it's a good time. They're smart though because they give you a "credit card" type thing so you don't actually have to pay in cash or your own card at the time of purchasing drinks, so it's easy to lose track of how much you're spending, then you get off the boat and see that you spent tons of money for alcohol.

That looked kinda fun! I've been on about six cruises, and I've only felt the ship swaying once during a really heavy storm (nothing like that of course). Most of the time it's very calm once you get out to sea.

There's been a couple articles recently about cruise contracts, eg

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38792765/

I'm going on a 5-day Galveston-Cozumel-Galveston in the next couple months. Great fun.

My first "cruise" was actually an overnight roll-on-roll-off ferry from England to Denmark. And then another from Copenhagen to Helsinki.

cruises are awesome. i'v been on quite a few though so the excitement has wore off. those videos btw are nothing like what a cruise is like. those are exceptionally rare circumstances and really small ships. in that one video where the ship "almost tips over," that's like 1/3 the size the nicer ships out today, and vertically probably about 1/2.

Drinks are like $7-10 on the boat.

You were either on the wrong cruise or drinking the wrong thing.

The one cruise I went on had one cocktail a day that was free for 24 hours. You didn't even have to go looking for it; hang out by the pool, and they were walking around with trays of them, handing free drinks out to any/everyone who needed one. They were even giving them to me, and I was 15 at the time.

Why is this just becoming popular? It is dated from 2 years ago. I've never seen it before but it's strange it's just now getting attention.

I've been on two. On one we hit a front on the way back to Galveston and you could feel the boat swaying a little, but nothing that would make you lose your balance.

My advice is take a cruise in the winter. The islands are just as warm and you don't have to worry near as much about storms.

We were on one bad one Paul.. the last one if I remember right. Not as bad as these videos of course but bad enough that there was not one person at the dinner and they had barf bags all down the halls. If I remember right you and I were the only ones in our group that didn't get sick.. though I might be wrong on that because I think towards the end it finally started to hit you.

We need to go again.. maybe do that this year.. Kinda in the mood for it.

Bingo. I've been reading about cruise ships scrambling to get out of the way of this summer's storms, and I was thinking "who the F is stupid enough to be cruising the Atlantic or Caribbean in summer?" Cruise there from Nov - April/May. Cruise Alaska in the summer months.

300 bucks a person for 7 day Caribbean in an ocean view room is pretty enticing to jump on. That is why we decided to roll the dice this year. Its not like they deliberately go plow into hurricanes. 95% of the time they avoid them and go to a different port if possible. Either way, im looking forward to it.
