even though it's generally overpriced, I usually like their food. It's consistently hot, fresh and they have a wide variety to pick from.

We tried the $4.99 all you can eat breakfast the other day. Could not believe how much it sucked.

I'll probably miss that fried fish and mac/cheese at some point, but I never want to step foot in that place again.

Luby's has gone WAY downhill since Pappas bought them. I think they just bought them for the real estate and didn't really give a shit about running the restaurants. The Lubys are just a "place holder" till they put one of their other restaurants there or the property appreciates and sells.

I used to take my kids there a lot when they were younger, just so they could experience a restaurant meal that included a vegetable other than french fries. But it's been at least 3 years since we've been to one.

:td I still don't understand the appeal of eating at a cafeteria anytime life doesn't force you to.

Yeah, I can see that, but Luby's was just one of those type places we went to growing up. There's always a bit of nostalgia for me going in.....

but hell, they even expect patrons to leave a tip now....

no point at all any more.

I usually go there most Sundays w/ family - either there or Cracker Barrell. I almost always get their liver and onions.

Luby's resembles a home-cooked meal? Is this because they have meat loaf? :downspin:

I do remember Luby's having nice desserts.

What also doesn't do it for me are most cheap buffets, like Ryan's or Golden Corral. :nope I'd rather have a fair amount of good food than a whole bunch of mediocre food.

ugh. Cracker Barrel is an overrated hack restaurant that plays on people like my parents because of the country store feel.

Food is good enough, but portions are tiny. I never go home with any extra.

Hell if it wasn't for Luby's, my kids would have never known what jello tastes like.:lol

But yuck on Luby's now, it's gone down hill!!!:td

Luby's is pretty terrible these days.

I grew up going there with my grandma during the summer. Almost every other day or so we were at McCreles Mall, and would always eat at the Luby's there.

now its just really over priced crap. I still marvel at how much they charge for their cafeteria food.

oh crap

:lol My parents love that part of the restuarant, especially during Christmas time. I gotta give them credit - the store part does have different sorts of candy and peanut clusters you rarely see common gas stations.

There food is skimpy though, especially for how much you pay.

The only dessert I ever had there was the wonderful pecan pie. I've always heard it was one of the best----I wonder if it's made there or contracted from someone else?

I bought the recipe book when it came out ... it has all of the good ones in there so you don't have to be raked over the coals to have it.

The fish recipes are my favorite. :)

Lubys was good when they had traditional cafeteria food, in the metal trays with the hot water below......and the heat lamps. Then they turned to gourmet food sitting in those white corningware dishes. :vomit:

The only way to eat Luby's is to go through the Drive Thru and order a kids meal. They always let me do it. You get 1/2 a fish, 2 veggies, a roll, and some jello pretty cheap!

Thank you very much!! San Antonio institution my ass! I never understood how that place lasted as long as it did, absolutely biggest letdown of a restaurant ever. Yuck.

Great sig for somebody to use.

I agree. Luby's used to be good until about 14 years ago when they had problems and sold to those Houston Greeks. Fish, mac n cheese, fried okra, pie and tea were staples.

I haven't been in 3 years.
