Carmelo Anthony's wish list starts with the New York Knicks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=nyk), but that's not the only trade destination he's targeting.

Sources briefed on the state of Anthony's ongoing push to be dealt by the Denver Nuggets (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=den) told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the Chicago Bulls (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=chi) are a firm 1A on his list. This is partly attributed to the fact that the Bulls are much closer to assembling the sort of package Denver would want in return for its franchise player than the Knicks.

Over the last 72 hours, sources said, Anthony's representatives -- headed by agent Leon Rose -- have been ramping up the pressure on the Nuggets to complete a deal with the Knicks or the Bulls before training camps open leaguewide next week.

Sources say that Denver officials, however, are not inclined to rush into anything. ESPN.com reported Sunday night that the Nuggets, in recent days, have been telling interested teams for the first time that they are willing to field offers for Anthony after resisting such inquiries for weeks.

But even as the Nuggets have opted to see what sort of haul can be had for their high-scoring forward, there remains strong sentiment within the organization to slow the process down in hopes of mounting one last campaign to win back Anthony's support.

The Nuggets, sources said, are clinging to the hope that Anthony might reconsider his trade-me stance once he starts hearing some Denver-friendly voices upon reporting to camp after weeks of isolation from the organization.

Anthony will be greeted by the likes of head coach George Karl and trusted teammate Chauncey Billups (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=63) trying to convince the 26-year-old that his current team is not far away from a return to contention in the Western Conference and that the foundation of the group that reached the West finals in 2009 should not be scrapped.

Yet sources say that the message from Anthony's camp to the Nuggets has stayed consistent: New York and Chicago are the preferred landing spots, with New Jersey and Houston also still in the conversation.

The Nets remain a viable option because of their planned move to Brooklyn and because the Nets have what several rival executives believe to be the deepest cache of assets to satisfy Denver's trade demands in its worst-case scenario.

Though the Rockets are the fourth known team in the Anthony sweepstakes, multiple sources close to the situation insisted Friday that Houston is not making guard Kevin Martin (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2394) part of the discussions. The Nuggets, sources maintain, would expect a combination of expiring contracts, future first-round draft picks and at least one marketable young talent if they ultimately concede that Anthony must be traded between now and the February trading deadline.

The Nuggets have offered Anthony, who can become a free agent next July, a three-year extension worth $65 million.

ESPN.com reported Monday that the Nets are widely regarded in NBA front-office circles as the frontrunner for Anthony. New Jersey is reportedly willing to package No. 3 overall pick Derrick Favors (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=4257) with the expiring contracts of Troy Murphy (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1013) and Kris Humphries (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2433) and at least one future first-rounder.

It's believed that the Nets, though, would insist on Anthony agreeing to a contract extension as part of the trade -- as Kevin Garnett (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=261) did when Minnesota sent him to Boston in the summer of 2007 -- before they agree to surrender assets such as Favors and draft picks.

The Bulls could theoretically trump any New Jersey offer if they were willing to include center Joakim Noah (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3224) as part of a deal for Anthony. Sources with knowledge of Chicago's thinking, however, have maintained for days that the Bulls are strongly against the inclusion of Noah, revealing instead that Chicago has offered a package featuring Luol Deng (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2429), Taj Gibson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3986) and one future first-rounder.

Playing alongside former Team USA teammate Amare Stoudemire (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1727) in New York is thought to hold the greatest appeal to Anthony, something Stoudemire openly discussed earlier in the summer. The Knicks, though, simply lack the draft picks to sweeten a package that sources say would be centered around Eddy Curry's expiring contract and either Danilo Gallinari (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3428) or Anthony Randolph (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3455) -- but not both of those young players.

The Knicks, Bulls and Nets all stand to benefit from Denver's determination to send Anthony out of the Western Conference if it decides there is no alternative apart from trading him, but sources close to the process note that a third team would almost certainly have to be recruited to help facilitate a deal.

Reports have persisted for weeks that Anthony, wielding the hammer of his potential free agency in the wake of the defections of LeBron James (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1966) and Chris Bosh (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1977) to Miami, wants out. ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported Aug. 16 that it was "a matter of when, not if, Anthony and the Nuggets will go their separate ways."

But Anthony has not made any such declarations publicly, announcing Tuesday night via his Twitter feed: "Everyone has [their] own opinion. It's funny. It cracks me up."

Yet Anthony did add in a follow-up tweet: "When I know something ... you guys will know something."

Pippen: Carmelo Anthony a gamble

CHICAGO -- Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=663) said he would not trade Bulls center Joakim Noah (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3224) for Carmelo Anthony (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1975), and that acquiring the Denver Nuggets (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=den) star would be a "huge gamble" for Chicago.

ESPNChicago.com reported earlier this month that the Bulls were having internal discussions about whether to include Noah as part of a potential trade package to land Anthony. The Nuggets offered Anthony a three-year, $65 million extension through 2014, but numerous sources told ESPN.com that Denver officials have in recent days let other teams know for the first time that they will listen to pitches after previously resisting such discussions.
"I would definitely think about it very hard," Pippen said Tuesday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "But I don't know ... if I'm a GM, I don't know that I could pull the trigger based on Carmelo's ... sort of what he's doing now. Based on his reputation, I'd probably have to stay with Joakim because you know that this kid is going to come out and play night in and night out. There's no excuses. He's a great teammate. That's what you want."
Pippen said Anthony's reported handling of his situation should give the Bulls reason to pause.
"I think there's been some problems there with him and the coaching and the organization," Pippen said. "I think that could be a problem when you come to a team like the Bulls, an organization that is still trying to get off the ground and get themselves in a position that they are an established playoff team. You don't want to lose a guy like Joakim and have a guy like Carmelo come here. Hey, he might not like it here. Next year he may be wanting to get out of here and go play somewhere else.
"I think it would be a huge gamble for the Bulls. It could set them back or it could push them up. I like Joakim, so for personal reasons I would probably keep him."

Anthony, 26, has averaged 24.7 points per game in his career, including 28.2 last season. He will be a free agent after the 2010-11 season.
Several league sources on Monday told ESPN.com that they believe the Nets have emerged as the front-runner to secure Anthony. Not only is Anthony willing to sign a contract extension with the Nets, sources say the club is willing to make an intriguing offer of Derrick Favors (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=4257) (the No. 3 pick in this year's draft), the expiring contracts of Troy Murphy (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1013) and Kris Humphries (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2433), and at least one future first-round pick to Denver to land Anthony.
Noah, 25, averaged 10.7 points and 11 rebounds a game last season for the Bulls. He will make $3.1 million this season in the fourth year of his rookie deal. The center would become a restricted free agent next season unless the Bulls extend his contract.
"I think you have to say that he is one of the top two players on the team as far as value," Pippen said. "He brings a lot to the table. You can't forget that this kid is a winner, who is coming off his college career [with] two championships [at Florida]. He still wants to win, and he plays very hard. He's not the most attractive player in terms of [style] out on the basketball court. He gets the job done, and he plays at a very high level. You can call him a poor man's Dennis Rodman (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=726). He's a presence out on the basketball court."

I just want Melo to get traded already. If not to the Rockets then ship him out east so he can get routinely stomped by his Olympic buddies for the rest of his career.

‘Melo’s future dominates preseason intrigue (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=ApMQ66OxwQFBgO89BXGeApK8vLYF?slug=aw-campquestions092210)
By Adrian Wojnarowski

The Denver Nuggets have a young, inexperienced and unsure front office now, and they’ll likely make an immense mistake by trading Carmelo Anthony before the start of the season.

What’s the rush to make yourself a garbage team? Why cave to agents Worldwide Wes and Leon Rose so quickly?

“If they do, it’s a self-imposed panic,” one rival executive said. “Right now, I don’t know if there’s anyone strong enough there to stand up.”

Said an NBA executive whose team has talked with the Nuggets about a deal for Anthony: “I don’t know if they really know what they want yet.”

Too much can change before the February trade deadline, and what’s the benefit for Denver to do a deal now? Avoid ‘Melo becoming a distraction? Here’s a bigger distraction: a lousy team that Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin and J.R. Smith don’t want to play on. That’s worse.

As NBA teams return to training camp next week, there are questions hovering everywhere. There are several pressing and intriguing ones, but maybe none with as much hinging on a franchise’s future as how the Nuggets handle Anthony’s exit.

Anthony promises he won’t re-sign and, well, what else is he going to say to get the trade now? Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri has been working the phones on three-way trade scenarios which would land Anthony with one of the two preferred destinations – New York or Chicago – as reported by Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears on Sept. 8. No one has benefited more from the Nuggets’ inexperience and perceived impatience than the Knicks, who are the most desperate to acquire Anthony.

The New Jersey Nets want Anthony, but they aren’t desperate for him. Nets head coach Avery Johnson wasn’t the most sold member of the organization on Derrick Favors on draft night, but he’s grown increasingly fond of the rookie forward in preseason workouts and believes Favors is going to be terrific someday. The Nets have time to rebuild now, whereas the Knicks are under incredible pressure to cash in all their salary space for a superstar. No one wants to hear about the Knicks landing Deron Williams and Chris Paul in the class of 2012.

Nevertheless, Anthony’s reps are trying to manipulate two young, inexperienced executives in Ujiri and 30-year-old owner Josh Kroenke. This is the most important decision this management team will ever make, and mishandling the matter could set the franchise back for years. Stars such as Anthony don’t come along often, and the Nuggets need to get together on a plan that spares the franchise what undoubtedly will be a painful process of trying to rebuild without him.

Its not JUST about what Melo wants.

The Nugs need to benefit from it as well, otherwise its not going to happen.

so, looking at "Melo's choices" doesnt mean anything without the team's approval.
