To all the Pop haters that say he cant coach in close games: I was watchin ESPNNnews and they were talkin about Pop. He has the all time highest winning % in series clinching games!!!! Cant coach when the heat is on???? I beg to differ.

That's nice to know. Pop's going to be rankes up there with the best after his career is over. Already with 2 rings and hopefully he'll add to that. In my books he's up there with the Pat Riley's and Phil Jackson. Jackson has the rings over him but Pop's going to get some before he retires and close out on Jackson.

Off the top of my head, the only loss I remember when the Spurs could clinch was against Dallas in '03.

But then again, it is 4:40 AM.

EDIT:

Oh yeah I also forgot about that other Dallas series where they lost game four when they could have swept them. I shouldn't have forgotten about that game because I was there at Dallas:shootme

Pop = class, has a few seeming deficiencies but positives win out by a mile.

Just like Nuggets and Sonics fans think they should get every whistle, the Pop haters think the Spurs should go 98-0 every year.

Pretty close, timvp -- Pop is now 15-4 all-time when the Spurs have a chance to close out a team. The 4 losses are: Game 5 of the 2003 WCF vs. Dallas; Game 4 of the 2002 First Round at Seattle (the night the Spurs played without Timmy and Dave); Game 4 of the 2001 WCSF at Dallas; and Game 3 of the 2001 First Round at Minnesota. In each case, the Spurs won the next game to close out the series, so I guess you could say that Pop has certainly built a good finisher.

Pop's teams are now 10-3 on the road in close-out games, and 5-1 at home.

Here's the full run-down:

98 - Game 4 v. PNX (win) [First Round]
99 - Game 4 @ MIN (win) [First Round]
99 - Game 4 @ LAL (win) [WCSF]
99 - Game 4 @ PRT (win) [WCF]
99 - Game 5 @ NYK (win) [Finals]
01 - Game 3 @ MIN (loss) [First Round]
01 - Game 4 @ MIN (win) [First Round]
01 - Game 4 @ DAL (loss) [WCSF]
01 - Game 5 v. DAL (win) [WCSF]
02 - Game 4 @ SEA (loss) [First Round]
02 - Game 5 v. SEA (win) [First Round]
03 - Game 6 @ PNX (win) [First Round]
03 - Game 6 @ LAL (win) [WCSF]
03 - Game 5 v. DAL (loss) [WCF]
03 - Game 6 @ DAL (win) [WCF]
03 - Game 6 v. NJN (win) [Finals]
04 - Game 4 @ MEM (win) [First Round]
05 - Game 5 v. DEN (win) [First Round]
05 - Game 6 @ SEA (win) [WCSF]

The frustration isn't about closing series out, it's when we fail to adjust and never have a chance to close it out.

I am happy, but we haven't won a title yet.

Pop is Larry Brown without all the character defects. That's a damn good coach in my book.

Well, Pop and Co. have wond 2 titles. What you say then?

Now what?

But even if Pop does win the title...you'll still be crying like George Karl.

Then what?

If we win the title this year I will be the first one in line on this site to eat crow on Pop, and will be very happy to do so.

he will give the spurs the best chance of doing so, but we may not have the horses off the bench to get it done.

Can you imagine if Pop had run the play feeding Tim on the block (4 down) and let him work on Potapenko again, after going 5-20? After it not working in Game 3? Coach McMillan said in the post-game interview that's what he thought the Spurs would run.

By spreading the floor, letting Manu create, and moving Tim around instead of standing still, back-to-the-basket, with a big red target on his back, the only predictable element was that Manu would end up driving left.

I'll believe that when I see it. But since Pop has already won two titles, why don't you eat your crow now?

(where's Mouse when you need a good eatin' crow pic?!?)
