North Star Mall was a magical place for many people when it opened in San Antonio on Sept. 23, 1960. It had 50 stores in a single spot, plenty of free parking and air conditioning in what was reputed to be just the third enclosed shopping center in the nation.

That looks like it was taken on Sunday afternoon right after they all finished eating at the Lubys.

Other than Lubys, I wonder what store actually has made it there the longest.

I don't remember that Western Auto. I do remember the Walgreens that took it's spot.

Ahhh...I see the Texas Liquors sign...those were the days...If you were 18 you could legally walk in and buy a pistol, ammo, and a half gallon of Tequila all in one stop.

I remember the Walgreen's and the movie theaters near where Dillard's is now. I saw Grease there, about 13 times. :D

And right next to the Texas Liquors was the "Toybox"...pretty much the only real toy store in town besides the 5 and Dime stores.

I remember a few years back they made a big deal on the news about a book store opening in South Park Mall. What does that say about the south side that a book store is news worthy? :lol

Even worse, it closed for lack of business.

Did you ever camp out for tickets @ Joske's? :rollin My brothers did all the time and usually got 1st row. :tu

no camp out needed, I had a buddy working at Record Hole, who always held back some good tickets for me & my friends...

never had first row, but had several 2nd & 3rd row concerts - UFO, Triumph, and a couple of others I think.

That's what it was called, Record Hole? I don't remember that. :lol Oh, we also used to camp out @ Sound Warehouse on San Pedro.

after S.W. opened, I started spending all my money there instead of record hole.
