Mazlan Othman, a Malaysian physicist, is being appointed by the United Nations to the post of ambassador to aliens, and will be the first person to officially hold talks with them. Or at least she’ll be the first United Nations official to do so.
Mazlan Othman, the head of the UN’s little-known Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa), is to describe her potential new role next week at a scientific conference at the Royal Society’s Kavli conference centre in Buckinghamshire.
She is scheduled to tell delegates that the recent discovery of hundreds of exo planets around other stars has made the detection of extraterrestrial life more likely than ever before – and that means the UN must be ready to coordinate humanity’s response to any “first contact”.
During a talk Othman gave recently to fellow scientists, she said: “The continued search for extraterrestrial communication, by several entities, sustains the hope that some day humankind will receive signals from extraterrestrials. “When we do, we should have in place a coordinated response that takes into account all the sensitivities related to the subject. The UN is a ready-made mechanism for such coordination.”

First the Chruch allows the thought of other life, now our governments.... It's only a matter of time before they come clean and the MIB are revealed. :lol Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will be honorary ambassadors. :lmao
Seriously though.... It sounds funny to have them create this position, but you never know.... Its better to be prepared for nothing than to be unprepared for the unknown.
Personally, most here know my thoughts on the subject, and I think its a good decision to be proactive.

Crazy, but I'm with Steven Hawking on this one, when he said he believes that Nasa should not tell plant earth where abouts on all those probes we send out.
Stupid idea.

Yes, I would normally wait until it came out in Bluray like I did season 9, and DVD for the others, but I will be watching this one. The ending of season 9 was a one of the best cliffhangers ever.
I watched the first episode of Caprica, and I'm debating if I will buy the disc set when it comes out on the 5th. The first episode didn't impress me, but I really liked the movie.
--- edit---
Ooops..
Missed it, it was on Friday in my area. Going to check if Comcast has it on demand.

Im sure you know by now, but just in case you dont, this is the FINAL season for Smallville. They wont make anymore after this one.
Back on Topic though......
Has anyone seen the documentary called "I Know What I saw." on the History channel? It was pretty intruiging and I knew about the convention back in 2007, just never had a chance to see the documentary until a few days ago.
Hard to dismiss so many high ranking individuals on the subject that have tangible evidence. Like someone said in that documentary, why is it that its some hill-billy person that always see's these things?.... but yet, here we have military personel, pilots, physicist and all manor of high ranking people claiming to have seen these things and where previously sworn to secrecy.
The answer should be clear to any rational thinker.
It's this part of the government that I find myself agreeing with Mouse about.... I I understand why they want to hide it.... They dont want it to be known to the people that they cannot defend the skies against what may or may not be a threat.
They are helpless against it... and if they where to say as such, they would be in a shit storm from the people they are sworn to protect. Still, we need to evolve to understand that shit doesnt revolve around us like any religion would have us believe.... We are less than a speck of sand compared to the ocean of the universe.
To think otherwise is selfish, self-centered and folly.

If we are contacted by aliens, they won't give a fuck about staying secret. They'd obviously have access to superior technology and wouldn't have anything to fear by being exposed, that's if they decided to come down to the atmosphere and see us up close instead of through telescopes!
I'm in the "human beings from the future" visiting to change the course of humanity OR make sure they are rich in the future. Yep.
