Sim's games kick ass. You have to actually use your brain and creativity to achieve success unlike a game where you just rip peoples heads off or kill them with modified M16.
I was bored the other day and downloaded Sim city 4 the only problem its in Russian so I don't know what the mayor or city developers are saying when they pop up during the game.
back in 2000 I was playing Sims 1 and I took some of my music files and inserted them into the user data file under music. So when my Sim is listening to the radio I get to hear my personal music. That's what good weed and cold beer can do for you.
But who ever created the Sim city you posted has much more time on they're hands than some people I know and they are unemployed.
The mere fact you found that youtube link is proof your one hell of a geek or else you must work at radio shack!

You can't be sure that he wasn't an engineer or something for his day to day job. He certainly knew a bit about math.
Still... 3 years for a city? :wow

He was, at the time, a 22 year old studying architect.
Pretty amazing, if you ask me.

my buddy tried to get me hooked on the sims but all i'd do is trap a few people with some hogs in a fenced up area and watch the hogs devour those poor fools.

Koyaanisqatsi more or less sums up my worldview. So I found it interesting that one of the test cities and the overarching theme was inspired by such. Cool shit.

I don't see any difference from spending 3 years on a sims game as to spending it online at ST.

I would argue time spent in SimCity is actually far more productive.
