I spent about 300 hours on this game. Probably more.
If every 360 I've owned wasn't a box of missing screws and bolts, I'd have put about the same in FO3+expansions, IM. As it stands, I'm waiting for my 6th to get repaired.

Sheeeeeeeeeeit. That sucks. I had 1 360 Red Ring on me twice. New one has no problems, so far. Expansions are great.
Agreed on expansions. From what I played, they were awesome, especially the Alien one. I've gotten new systems every time, til this one. It was just past the warranty date and the disk drive suddenly stops working. Jesus H. Christ again!? was indeed, my first thoughts.

the fuck you doing to those things? six boxes? wow...
Never had mine ring, and it's gonna be 5 years old...
the fuck you doing to those things? six boxes? wow...
Never had mine ring, and it's gonna be 5 years old...
2 Red rings, one simply wouldn't display, couple weird errors that I had to battle for warranty coverage, and now the disk drive. The room never gets hotter than 75 degrees, usually more like 70. There's an A/C unit blowing almost directly at the TV and systems.
Meanwhile, first PS3 has worked without a hitch for several months now.

Honestly.... why play this game on a console?
It's so much better on a PC in regards to mods and such.
I guess if a Console is all you got for gaming and your PC cant run it.....
Dont get me wrong, Im not trying to make this another Pc vs Console thread.... I have said before, I own 2 Xbox 360's, a PS3, a Wii and almost every console before them.... The lone exception being a 3DO.
There are just some games I believe are better played on certain platforms.... and this game screams PC. You get more out of it.

I can't and don't game on PC. I'm just not comfortable doing it. Sticking to Console. My bro will be playing this on PC, though.

Each to his own I guess.... There are just certain games I feel MUST be played on PC to get the "real" experience out of them... this being one of them.
My brother is like you...
He has Dragon Age, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Mass Effect 1 and 2 for the Xbox/Xbox360.... I tried playing all of them on the console and it sucks IMHO compared to PC.
Now, racing games (Dirt, Dirt 2, ect), even though I have an Xbox360 controller for my PC and can run them flawlessly on my PC, I like to play them on a console. Im wierd too in my own way. :lol
I think with Fallout 3/Vegas it comes down to the fact that its First Person.... First Person cant be beat on a PC when it comes to PC vs Console gaming. Mouse and Keyboard are much more natural for that type of game.
Some people just dont have the hand/eye coordination for it though.... Its okay if your slow in the head.... I mean, you are a Laker fan so its not like I can really make fun of you for it.... :p:
Just messin' with ya I.M. :rollin

I played Fallout 3 on PC when it first came out. Since then I have ditched PC gaming and now only have a 360.
I don't play video games much these days but I might get this one since I loved Fallout 3. But I agree, First Person Shooters on consoles are pathetic compared to PC. Using a joystick to move the cursor is about as retarded as it gets. PC gamers take their twitch-skills very seriously :lol
I have only seen one or two videos of New Vegas. It looks exactly the same as Fallout 3 but with new maps. I will probably pull the trigger though. Hell, I might replay Fallout 3 too.

Rumor mill:
Similar to Dragon Age: Origins, at character creation the player can select from different background stories. The first few hours of the game are different depending on which background you choose, and you get some unique perks based on your background when the main game begins.
One background story is shown, Chinese Agent. The background story takes place before the bombs fell. The player is part of a team of Crimson Dragoons infilitrating Hoover Dam. You manage to sneak through the Americans' defenses, set explosives, and head to an extraction point, but your escape is cut off by American soldiers in Power Armor. The player and other survivors of the Crimson Dragoons take refuge in a cave in the canyons, where they commit hari kari with cyanide capsules. The player about to do the same when the bombs fall. The background story ends an indeterminate time later, when the player exits the cave, removes his helmet, and sees his ghoulish reflection in the waters of the Colorado River.
The background story segues into character creation. The player can customize the appearance of the ghoul, and you see you start the game with two unique perks. One, similar to the Ghoul Mask in Fallout 3, makes Feral Ghouls non-aggro. The other makes the player immune to radiation sickness and allows the player to discharge accumulated radiation in a blast similar to a Glowing Ghoul, healing the player and any mutants while damaging all non-mutants in range.
By default, the Chinese Agent has the skills Sneak, Small Arms, and Explosives tagged and SPECIAL stats set, although the player can modify their tagged skills and stats if they don't like the template.
One character background option is Lone Wanderer. This selection has no background story or template and is a complete blank slate for players.
The SPECIAL system used will be similar to Fallout 3, but skills will be harder to cap and one character will not be able to become a master of all skills. The article is not very specific because apparently it's something the developers are still tweaking.
Gambling will return, but not as a skill. Your Luck stat will effect gambling results. You can attempt to cheat at cards using your Sneak skill or hack slot machines using your Science skill.
There will be vehicles. The desert of New Vegas dwarfs the Capital Wasteland and you will need transportation to get around and explore it. You will acquire a vehicle several hours into the main quest. You can customize your vehicle with parts bought at shops or won through racing circuits and quests. Vehicles will not be common, but you will encounter road gangs, merchant caravans, and other vehicles in the wastes. The open desert is home to some very large mutant creatures, like giant radscorpions and sandworms, that will attack your vehicle.
New Vegas has a coliseum run by a slaver gang called the Caesar's Legion. You can gamble on and participate in arena fights.

Crafting is better, the AI seems smarter as well.
Besides that and a few more minor things (like the companion wheel and factions) its basically Fallout 3.

Just a small hint.... If you want lots of caps without cheating... start your character with 10 luck.
Use that one perk to raise your other stats if you feel like it.... cant remember what its called.
10 Luck will let you run the shit out of the blackjack tables like no ones business. I decided to do this with my first character (Vegas Baby!!!!). It was a pain in the ass to begin with, but finally reaching New Vegas, I am already banned from gambling in 3 casinos and have made around 30,000 caps off of them alone! :lol
Luck has a HUGE role in New Vegas.

Luck has a much bigger role in games than people ever suspect. Luck is especially important for drops and looting in most relevant games, but a high luck will usually give you awesome criticals and better quests/payoffs, as well.

yeah. I wish they would have done something like Mass Effect where you could import your character info from Fallout 3 and the events that happened in D.C. were brought up at least a little bit in the dialog and effected how factions and shit react. Not saying it had to be revolved around one character, would just be cool to play a new character and at least hear about events that happened in DC and the responses reflected what happened there.
One thing I plan to do after I play through it without cheating is using the console command on a new game to recreate my character from Fallout 3 with maybe a different perk or two.

I found 4 vaults so far. I don't recall if F3 had that many.
Weapons are underwhelming so far. There's a new weapon in mint condition in the Robco facility that I'm using now, and I was using a pistol named 'That gun' previous to that, but I still miss the alien gun from F3.
I also hooked up with the BOS and have their armor, but I can't find where to train to use it yet.
Roaming on the wasteland is fun though. Anybody has any other companion besides Boomer?

I have ED-E as a companion. an advanced eye-robot similar to the ones that roamed around in FA3 spouting propaganda. There is a quest for him that requires certain key words. Apparently you have to visit certain places to unlock them.
Having him as your companion grants you a huge extended range for detecting enemies. He is located in Primm and you have to repair him using Science and some spare parts. If I remember right, you need 55 science, 2 scrap metal, 2 sensors and some electric scrap to get him fully functional, but I recall an option to repair him without the parts.... Not sure how effective he is without them.
I held off until I got the parts. Apparently, the quests allows you to upgrade him further but I dont know what to do after taking him to the first junk yard in the quest line. After that first part, I dont get a marker for the next part.

They do go. I find myself spending the most on Old Lady Gibson fixing the custom stuff you can't repair yourself. But it works good too, because once I spent a good chunk I can sell her a lot of the junk I carry and get a good amount of the money back.

Caps hasn't really been a problem for me. I normally have a high science ranking, so when I got to Vegas I only needed to level up once to get the Science level that lets you override the robots.
It seems there are so many more side quests in this game than FO3's.
There are. That's why I said it feels bigger than F3. Even the main story, which I was mostly focused on early in the game, splits into a bunch of side quests after you meet the Yes Man.
BTW, I can't seem to approach the Legion's camp without getting shot, even with the shit they gave me in Vegas that's supposed to grant me passage.
I don't think it's necessarily a bug, but does anyone knows what's up with that?

LOL, that was a good quest. There's a lot of back and forth eventually in later quests, but don't forget you can quick travel if it's too long a distance. I also loved the Boomer quest looking for who sold out his wife, and the resolution once you find the person. You read the holotape and it's what makes Fallout great. Without spoiling, him/her had it coming, lol.

All Bethesda games are like that. They've actually improved from Oblivion on, but they basically just drop you off somewhere after the introduction and let you figure out what the do (plus you are weak and are not equipped to do a whole lot). The quest system in Morrowind was a joke. You were better off keeping a notepad by your computer to write down important stuff, unless you really wanted to sift through hundreds of pages of random crap in your in-game journal. It was so easy to lose track of the storyline in that game (and lose interest). It took me several tries (and several years) to finally beat the main quest.

Just finished the main storyline, with the Yes Man and whacking House (I basically didn't like it when he said this was an employer-employee relationship lol, and I should kill the BOS). Basically, I ended up screwing up both the NCR and the Legion.
I'll probably play it again helping the NCR, which is the other ending I want to see.

So how is this game? As good as FO3 or worse? Gameplay from videos make it look almost identical to FO3 and Vegas looks small as shit.
I'm not too excited for this game but I can't complain, a friend is going to let me borrow it on Tuesday for a few days

It is a lot like FO3... And Vegas is indeed fairly small... but there's plenty of wasteland to go around, and the usual factions are all out there: Ghouls, NCR, Brotherhood of Steel, Mutants, Slavers, etc. There's also a couple of new ones, like the Boomers, Omerta, and Mr House and his robots...
There's stuff I didn't even touch in my first play through. For example, I didn't even stop by the Mutant camp, just got the cliff notes from the 'spy' Mutant living in a tent around the area.
I would say it's as big as FO3, and I suspect it actually has even more side-quests.

the map is like not even half the size of FO3. its much smaller
BUT, locations are crammed into the game so there is less walking between places.
i was surprised by how small it was, tbh, but its not a problem. many many many places to go in the game, just not as much space inbetween each place.
the game starts out slow, but the quests in this game are much better. really fun, UNIQUE quests. you can tell they spent a lot of time on the quests in this game.

Here are a few mods Im running...
To use these mods, extract them to your FA3NV DATA folder.... Will look something similar to this....
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\fallout new vegas\Data
Then simply launch FA3NV and select "data Files" from the launch menu and check each one you want.
Run faster - I HATE the speed that running is set at. This mod increases the speed you run at but also increases run speed of mobs so it doesnt imbalance anything. I use 6 btw, feels more like an FPS.
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34783
FOOK - the Fallout Overhaul Kit - is a complete overhaul of FO3, adding hundreds of new items, high quality retextures and many new gameplay features to the base Fallout 3 game. All items are completely rebalanced and fully integrated into the game and the mod has support for all of the Fallout 3 DLCs.
This is the New Vegas version....
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34684
Freeplay after Main Quest - Fallout New Vegas is maybe the best in the series, but unfortunately the Obsidian devs decided to end the game
after the last mission just like in FO3 origionally. This fixes that. At the end of the gameplay reflections video it places the player right back inside of the doorway of Luck 38 Casino.
I havnt beaten the game yet but this will at least allow me to continue doing other quests with the same character...
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34811
Karma-Less Petty Crime NV - Stealing will no longer affect your karma, although people still won't take kindly to you robbing them blind if you're caught. I thought it was stupid if you kill a "faction" or group of people that it would still count against you if you "stole" from them.
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35113
Level Cap 100 - Remove level cap from 30 to 100. self-explanitory.
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34782
Now a few that MIGHT be considered cheats by some, but I like them...
No Perk Requirements - This mod removes some (or all) of the Perk requirements when selecting a new Perk after leveling up. It does not remove the male/female restrictions, or add any quest only perks to the list.
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34818
Perk Every Level - self explanitory I hope.... Get a perk every level instead of every 3 levels (or whatever the default is).
*NOTE* If you are leveled up already, it will not let you go back and pick perks for the levels you have already gained. I started using this mod around level 7 so I am not able to pick 6 or 7 perks that I may have otherwise been able to pick if I had used this mod from the begining.

I guess I should have clarified how Im playing the game......
Difficulty set at hard...
Playing in Hardcore mode...
Not that easy even with these mods. :toast
The run faster mod just increases run speed, even on mobs.... doesnt imbalance anything IMO, just makes travel faster and combat more intense IMHO especially if you dont use VATS.
FOOK is freaking awesome....
Freeplay after main quest.... How can anyone think thats a cheat? It just extends the game so you can continue to search around for more quests after "beating" the game.... It should have been this way from the get go, like Oblivion was.
The Karma mod, I could see as a cheat if you abuse it, but its not a huge imbalance and the only time I actually find it usefull is when looting ammo crates.
Level cap increased to 100.... you still have to level up.
The last 2 I listed could be considered cheats I guess (like I said in my previous post). Currently Im not using the remove requirements mod. I did use it for a bit but just made it too hard for me to decide what perk to take each level. :lol

how do you get banned?
Without Mods, if you bet at the casino's and actually make money off of them, you will get comps, like a real casino. If you make enough money off of them they will ban you from playing games... You can still go in and use the suite and stuff, you just cant bet anymore.
There's a couple of mods at the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/ that will increase the ammount of money you can win, or completely remove the "banning". also, there is a mod that allows for an increased bet limit.
The default limit is like 200 chips or something, there is a mod that allows you to bet up to 5000 chips if you want, although if you have 10 luck, I would consider it a cheat. You can make TONS of chips with this mod. You could have over 100,000 chips in less than 10 minutes playing blackjack.

That sounds a lot like a string of errors easily attributable to shoddy electrical wiring.
Get a line conditioner, and see if that helps. Remember these things are essentially specialized computers, and electronics can be sensitive to hiccups in the flow of electricity.

okay, so I use the mods phyzik listed, plus a few more.
Here they are:
MTUI http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34902
Description
Essential UI adjustments for Fallout: New Vegas. Smaller fonts, larger item selection areas, improved conversation menus, etc. Designed for screen resolutions of 1024x768 and higher.
Fellout http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34888
Description
Fellout NV removes the orange tint from most areas and creates a realistic lighting environment. It does this indoors and out. Static lighting is usually a bit darker, but has a longer range (or a larger "pool") while ambient lighting is reduced - Check Freeside out at night.
The weather modes are overhauled and given realistic brightness, realistic colouring and realistic lighting. There's a night now (because the game sure didn't have any nights) which gets pretty dark, the daytime desert haze fades off into the distance naturally, hell you can almost feel the desert sun beating down on your neck!
(included with fellout is friendofthenightforfellout.esp, a perk which lessens the impact of the very dark nights included with this mod. still darker than the vanilla version, and makes for some scary encounters while traveling after sunset)
CONELRAD, Civil Defense Radio http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35061
Description
This mod adds a new radio station to your Pip-Boy 3000. Hosted by Katrina, the station plays 55 music tracks from the era of the
Atomic Threat, including 29 authentic public service announcements from
Civil Defense Washington.
2 hours, 20 minutes of Music across 55 tracks
22 minutes of PSAs & Civil Defense
Custom station host dialogue.
The station is fully scripted as per official stations.
New Vegas Bounties http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37310
Description (note that I have loaded this but not playtested yet. However, lots of positive endorsements on NVnexus)
"New Vegas Bounties I" is the first installment in a planned series for Fallout: New Vegas. Upon initiating the quest, you'll be tasked with tracking down the most malevolent and vile assortment of outlaws in the Mojave Wasteland.
Your targets will include rogue rangers, fiends, raiders, drug smugglers, cannibals, and pistoleros, to name a few. Your opponents are all designed to be boss-caliber, akin to the fiends in "Three-Card Bounty", and became gradually more difficult as you progress.
At its core, New Vegas Bounties is an action mod; extreme violence and profanity are ubiquitous. In lieu of mind-boggling puzzles or "go collect x or y resource"-type quests, you will be confronted with dangerous opponents who are designed to frustrate and kill you. You will be harried, ambushed, outnumbered, and outgunned. This is the path of a bounty hunter - take it or leave it.
This is my first mod for New Vegas, but I've released multiple action/adventure plugins for TES IV. If you leave comments or suggestions I will always respond, and make every effort to correct bugs or conflicts should they arise.
This adapts several characters and elements from JarheadWriter's mod, Potomac Breaks (FO3), with his permission.
It includes 436 lines of fully-voiced dialogue (as of version 1.2). I will continue to polish the lip-syncing in future updates, as it is a time-consuming process (and I've gained new respect for voiced mods!).
FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36901
Description
Fail-Safe Mod Installs
Don't worry if a mod install fails; FOMM cleans up after itself, preventing half-installed mods.
Mod Info Retrieval
When adding new mods, FOMM can retrieve missing information about the mod (such as author and the screenshot) from the web. You are prompted to enable this option, and it can be changed in the settings window.
Mod Versioning
FOMM is able to upgrade mods without have to re-activate them, and without changing which mods overwrite which.
Mod Reactivation
You can change the installation options of mods without have to reinstall them.
For the mod author and tinkerers:
Configurable Scripts
Control how your mod can be installed, and give your users choices. You can write powerful install scripts using the flexible XML Configuration scripts, the more powerful C# Scripts, or event the traditional OBMM/OMOD script language.
Low-Level Editing Tools
FOMM still includes: TESsnip, BSA Creator/Unpacker, Shader Editor.

Is there anyway you can prevent The Legion from attacking you? Right now, I'm "vilified" by them but when I wear their gear, they don't attack me for a while. It's hard to explain. They will let me travel to the Fort and I can almost get all the way to the tent that has Caesar in it and then they get pissed and start attacking me. It makes me mad because I need to get inside that tent to get that chip from Benny.

You can only fool people from a faction for so long by wearing their gear, eventually you'll be made in every instance. Since you're vilified, it seems you're going to have to fight your way in, no matter what you do
Unless... You haven't talked to Mr. House at the Lucky 38 for the first time yet. Your faction rep will be reset to neutral with both the NCR and the Legion after starting "The House Aways Wins". This way, you can wear any old thing you want while visiting Caesar.
Otherwise, you're screwed and will have to battle it out

Yeah, you're right. I already killed all of the Legion last night, lol. It was awesome. I went to The Fort and had Boone with me and we basically killed them one by one. We would go to a certain area and kill like two or three at a time and wait and get our health back up.

Just a small hint.... If you want lots of caps without cheating... start your character with 10 luck.
Start with 9 luck, buy implant later.
BTW, I can't seem to approach the Legion's camp without getting shot, even with the shit they gave me in Vegas that's supposed to grant me passage.
I don't think it's necessarily a bug, but does anyone knows what's up with that?
Were you wearing NCR armor? Did you have Boone as a companion?
I finished the game twice, first helping NCR, then helping Mr. House. A few things I observed during gameplay:
Hardcore mode doesn't make the game much more difficulty but a lot more annoying. You will probably need one of those perks that allows you to carry more weight, since you will need to carry food/water and ammo will have weight.
The game has too many bugs/glitches. Playing on PC helps, since you can enable the console (debugging tool left by the developers in the PC version of the game) and find a way around some bugs.
I think I liked FO3 more, maybe because New Vegas isn't something entirely new like FO3 was for me. Also because killing mutants was more challenging then killing legions.
* If you are helping Mr. House and you don't want to destroy the Brotherhood of Steel's bunker, there is a mod that enables some hidden dialogue options during that quest. This mod allows you to convince Mr. House to leave the Brotherhood of Steel alone (that's the only mod I used).
