wow check this article out, alot of the houston rockets will be avail if the org doesnt do something fast. if yao plays terrible this year expect shane battier to be a free agent!!! this guy is as close to bruce as anyone and we need to go after this guy if hes available!!!

what do you guys think about houstons bazaar approach? even if the cba is coming you still need BBall players on your team regardless...

I have always respected his game, and have been wishing that somehow the spurs could land him.
I'm not sure how much the spurs would be interested in him at this point though.

eh, Battier fell off A LOT last year. he's not the defender he used to be.
Spurs fans have always had an obsession with landing Battier. This offseason looks like the best, if only, opportunity the Spurs front office has had to do so. Anyone have his salary numbers off hand, that way we could know if the level of contract he's most likely expecting would be something we could handle.
Of course, if there is no lockout and Shane Battier is on the market the leagues deepest pockets would come out to play.
Edit: Or rather, all of the contenders (the top 2-3 are all spending alot of money for now and into the future).

i think san antonio would be a perfect place for him he likes to be an underdog. L.A has already jumped the gun on getting defenders so i think their chances are gone, boston is already loaded and will be blown up very soon. san antonio looks poised to grab him.
@itzsoweezee yeah i thought that two but he had an injury to his knee and was really mad at himself for not playing like himself, however he now knows he can get back up there.
i dont think he even lost a step yet i think it was just a reaction to his injury afterall it was a knee injury. even if he doesnt play that great this season (which i think he will by allstar break) i believe if he has a healthy season this year he will be back to himself 100% by next season for sure. if we got him i think wed be right there with L.A
I didn't think the injury was that serious. I thought his game just fell off some. Either way, he's getting about $7M this season. I guess it depends a lot on whether there is a lockout, or if there are a lot of bargains in the offseason.

Battier was just as bad, if not worse, than RJ last year. You people are funny. Oh yeah, "better fit" . . . never mind.

I rather get Wilson Chandler this year, but it'd always be nice to have a guy like Battier on the team. He fits in well with the system and is the closest thing to Bruce Bowen you're gonna get with the people playing right now.

Battier would've been a better fit a couple of years ago. While still a productive player, he's starting to drift toward the back end of his career. If the Spurs were to somehow land Wilson Chandler, I'd take Battier, but acquiriing him would mean they Spurs would have to somehow manage to unload RJ.

With the Wilson Chandler rumors being just that, I guess we are back to the starting line with our backup SF situation. I know some were less than optimistic about Simmons, but at least he appears to have something to prove. Hopefully training camp will reveal some answers.

Where does it state that Battier is not getting an extension?
So by your logic, not giving extension now = not extending, Morey is just gonna let Brooks slip away in FA without getting anything in return?
Better hope he's willing to play for the vet min and brings a time machine with him.

by my logic if yao is productive and they are at the top of the western conference they may extend battier and thats still an if ! so i think his chances of being a FA are very high, due to his future riding on the success of a Yao w/6 pins in his foot !

I wonder what Morey knows that we don't...
Well if there's a lengthy lockout that could mean more time for Shane to heal up however he's already 32. I see a contender signing him for cheap as a "low-risk, high reward" kind of player since he's at the point where he should be coat-tailing for a ring after the troubled Yao/McGrady era.
He'll probably be considered but he'd also be a step in the wrong direction when it comes to rebuilding on the fly due to his age and past injury. However ya gotta remember that Raja Bell was being pursued by the Spurs and he shares the same qualities that Shane does (wrong side of 30, coming off a disappointing season due to to injury and/or decline, good defender though).

You mean other than than that shooting 45% from downtown thing, right? Because that shit would have fit our offense like a glove. I don't think we'll be finding another Bowen on defense for a while. We need someone who can make their man work to score, get under his skin a bit, and bang the fuck out of the corner three. That sounds an awful lot more like Shane than RJ. Hence, upgrade.

Maybe 3-9 years ago.
Battier (2010-2011) wouldn't be an upgrade at the starting small forward position.
But he would be a nice piece to add to the bench next off-season if Anderson and Gee turn out to be busts. (which I don't think will be the case.)

Get somebody younger and build for the future. By the time this guy got acclimated to our system Timmy would be retired and we'd be stuck with an older defender to have to build with..Unless we could somehow get him this year, I'd say Wilson Chandler is a better target.

Battier has always (including last year) been praised by the Rockets coaching staff as the reliable veteran that holds their team togeter, so it would be surprising to see them let him go.
On the other hand, a team like the Rockets is in transition, especially if Yao can't go, and they may want to concentrate on younger players.
On of the conundrums of the pro basketball world: Do you keep the productive but aging veteran or avoid a pay increase and go with youth. Every team faces those choices at some point.
