View Full Version : It's nearly impossible to kick FGs vs SMU

Texas Tech fans might remember SMU blocking two Tech field goals last month. Well today, SMU got their first blocked FG since that Tech game. And it was run back for a TD (the second straight year SMU has blocked a Rice FG and run it back for a TD).

Why did it take four games for SMU to record another blocked kick? Because since that Tech game, there has only been ONE attempted FG against SMU, and it was missed by Washington State. In five games vs SMU, teams have attempted 6 FGs. Of those six, three have been blocked, two missed, and one made. That one make came today by Rice.

When teams get in FG range, it has gotten to the point where they pretty much have to go for the first down. They have a better shot at picking up the yardage than being successful on a FG attempt. SMU's special teams is the definition of game-changing. :)

So that means SMU has actually outscored their opponent when THEY are the ones attempting a FG.

SMU blocked TWO more FG attempts this past weekend vs Tulsa. SMU won 21-18. No team in the country can block FGs like SMU.
