From what I've seen Penney has been earning his keep. To all the people saying that you're "done with Penney" what the hell were you guys expecting, kobe bryant?

He seems to hustle his ass off on the court and he's 2-5 FG. What does he need to do to earn another chance, go 5-5 FG?

Yeah, Ian is not quite the work horse Cousin is, but Ian's offensive game is much more polished. Ian is the better athlete, but not as smooth as Cousin.

See I like that drive by Penney. I don't give a shit that he didn't get to the line or didn't make the shot, I like the aggressiveness. You can't teach that.

You can teach him better D over the long run, but you can't teach fearlessness.

Between his improved defense and his known 3 PT shooting, I think CJ could be the 3rd guard. I don't know if they will keep a guy around for that, but at this point, even though it is borderline that he is an NBA player, I think he could do it.

Cousins is better than I thought.
Temple and Hill are not ready for the season to start.
Anderson needs to buy a treadmill.
Bonner still knows how to kill a lead.
Neal and Penney both had their moments good and bad.
Gist is going back to Europe.

You have to keep in mind that with players like Gist, Neal, Simmons....they are limited. Which is why they are fringe players. Every team has them. Sometimes they look good, sometimes they look bad.

That happens with your 12-15 players, on every team.

Both Penney and Neal once they got their feet under them, they started to play well, hit shots, and make plays.

Jerrells played well, never really liked him that much (usually he takes bad shots) but tonight he played like a true PG and made some big plays down the stretch.

Parker, Duncan, Manu, Blair all looked good; Blair especially (8% body fat really shows)

I liked what I saw from RJ, still needs some work, but the new release looks quicker; still needs work on the defensive end

1. spurs starters avg. +3 in +/- vs. only +0.2 for houston

Gist is a defensive player. An energy guy that can rebound, block shots and guard a few positions. That is where the focus needs to be for him.

Guys like Hayes last a long time in the NBA with worse offensive games than him. Sure, the shooting and everything will help, but if Gist can become a consistent defender, he should earn a spot somewhere.

Cousins - Much better than anyone expected. Seems to know what to do on the court.

Penny - Early jitters. Got into stride. Seems to have good fundamentals and runs the offense well. I guess he's in top shape coming from the World's. Two defects - don't think he can defend by himself and inadequate athleticism to take it to the hoop. Otherwise, plays well at the perimeter.

Neal - Would like to have seen more aggressiveness and more moves in finding his shot. Made a mistake by fouling Martin on a pump fake. Like Penny, seems to not have the vertical to do well driving to the hoop.

Gist - Definitely going to get cut. Sloppy play, sloppy shot selection.

Temple and Anderson - Out of shape and out of sync.

Jerrels - Decent defensive, but doesn't know how to run the team.

Simmons - Is this a former MIP? Doesn't seem to have the agility and quickness I would expect.

RJ - I thought he worked to improve his game in the Summer? Could't see it.

I have to agree with you Neal, Simmons, Penney little upside and really don't help us. Simmons has not lateral quickness and looked like he was playing in slow motion through the game.

Gist was a pleasant suprise he seemed to be more confident and played good defense but pressed on the offense.

RJ seems to be the same.

Cousins played pretty decent needs to add about fifteen pounds of muscle though.

It is only one game but so far in the mix I would say Gist, Temple, and Gee.

It looks like aside from our regulars no one can play decent enough to warrant minutes in the regular season. I'm not worried with our bigs as we have that covered. but our wings, were screwed , espcially if RJ dosen't show up. Anderson dosen't look like he will be ready in the next 3 months ! Temple? nope. Simmons .. can he still move? Gee ? You realize this isn't the d-league or CBA. We might have to settle with Neal and/or Penny and hope they give us decent quality minutes. At least those guys have played in front of big crowds and of a decent level league(int'l and euroleague)
