Xbox 360 as Uverse STB finally coming

This thrills me... until the inevitable "you will pay $430/month to use it" or whatever the insane catch will be. I assume, at the very least we'll have to purchase the disc/remote/receiver package which will suck because I will only need the disc. Either way - it has potential to be a positive.

Do you really want to have it on all the time to do that? Previous hardware issues or not, I would not want to have my PS3 on to do a cable box's job. It saves AT&T money but thats about it.

My cable box is like the one appliance I've had that's died more than my 360.

I went through about 10 TW boxes in 4 years at one point, but the last two years I have had the same U-Verse gateway and cable boxes. No issues with them whatsoever. Not sure why someone would want to use a 360 when Uverse's equipment is so solid.

Potential overheating is obviously a valid point, but we'll see how it works. If it means saving the $8 a month or whatever it is to use an AT&T box, then cool... worth a shot at least. I'd likely use it in my media room... wouldn't be used as the STB too much - couple hours a day potentially if that. Though, now that I think about it more, my 360 is on my network wirelessly... I wonder how the 360 has to be connected to use the service... hardwired to the RG I wonder? Guess we'll find out.

In other U-verse news, AT&T has also now confirmed earlier reports that you will be able to use your Xbox 360 as a U-verse receiver, although you will obviously have to be a U-verse customer for that. New U-verse customers will be able to order a $99 Xbox kit that includes installation (but not the actual Xbox 360) starting October 15th, while existing customers will apparently have to buy the kit and shell out an additional $55 for installation.

they have wall adapters that capture wireless and provide an ethernet port. my work machine uses one and there is hardly a difference in speed. the tech gave me that and two 25" ethernet cords when my uverse was installed.
