Board of Elections gaffe may nullify New York soldiers' overseas absentee ballots (http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2010/10/11/2010-10-11_board_of_elections_gaff_may_nullify_new_york_so ldiers_overseas_absentee_ballots.html)

So they probably won't be nullified.

You are clearly underestimating how hard liberals will work to squash the Military vote.

According to testimony given to a D.C. City Council committee last Friday by J. Alex Halderman (http://www.cse.umich.edu/%7Ejhalderm/), asst. professor of electrical engineering and computer science at University of Michigan, hackers from Iran and China were also attempting to access the very same network infrastructure, even as his own team of students had successfully done so, taking over the entirety of the Internet Voting system which had been opened for a first-of-its-kind live test.

Wow...

When will these people learn, no electronic systems without a paper trail?

Actually, there was a paper trail in the form of coupons with codes that determined who could vote. The encryption of the votes themselves was not compromised either (unlike that article claims). However, you could generate dummy votes once the system was compromised (which wouldn't necessarily clear against the paper trail, if verified).
It was a test and outsiders were granted access to test the security, and now that exploits have been found, more time is needed, and a better design can take place. Security is an iterative process. I'm more concerned about the security measures taken to protect the private key on the building that's supposed to count the votes, but it's something that has not been covered in the articles I've read about the case.

BTW, for the tech savvy, the system used a GPG PK system, with the private key on the remote vote counting place (not connected to the network), while the voting machine had the public key used to encrypt the messages.

So ,as is most the case, this thread is misleading and a non issue.

Nice job darrins

Actually, I'm pretty sure we're talking about two (somewhat) unrelated cases...

At least the OP is about strictly NY voters, the other one is about a pilot program that was going to be used in general if it passed scrutiny (which it did not at this time).

This system brought to you by Cyberdyne Systems.
