Blazers guard/forward Rudy Fernandez has been fined $50,000 by the NBA because of comments his agent made in a letter sent to various Portland media members last week (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/07/agent-hey-stop-picking-on-rudy-fernandez-its-not-nice/).

Courtesy of The Oregonian (http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2010/10/rudy_fernandez_agent_defends_c.html), here’s the letter Fernandez’s agent sent:

Dears,

This morning I was at the radio 95.5 to address some of the issues that has been lately talked about Rudy Fernandez.

First of all, I don’t think anybody has the right to make fun or joking about a human being wishes and desires, and nobody can evaluate how fine or how sad a human being is being far from home, friends and culture. Nobody can blame any little thing about Rudy practice and attitude. He has been playing in every practice that he could.

He apologize to the staff and to the owner if anything he said hurted them during the summer. He said what he desire clearly in media day and he cannot say it again and louder because the NBA already fined him, but is clear which are his sensations. Also, as he said, isnot getting used to the NBA system, he likes the European style of game better.

In my personal opinion, NBA and the Union have to find new rules that adjust the relationships between NBA franchise and the rest of the world. Some situations like what Rudy is living, or some specific cases like the Draft for International players has no sense anymore.

Thank you,

Gerard Darnes

I’m not sure how many hearts and minds that letter won over, but it did cost Mr. Darnes’ client a cool $50,000. Not a great moment in representation.

Rudy is a fucking sissy. I hope they drag that crybaby bitch through the mud. I'm a little mad at myself for wanting him on the Rockets when all this trade talk started.

I'd still be happy if the Spurs got him. He fills a need, and although its not the same as being a star player, and hanging out with your friends all the time, the Spurs have a Euro friendly style (according to our players that is).

What kind of grammar is that? Also, they want to change the NBA to make Rudy feel better? Sounds reasonable.

That has got to be a fake. It reads like a four year old dictated it, or a Spurstalk poster.

Rudy Fernandez tired of writing checks for things his agents say, appeals fine (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/29/rudy-fernandez-tired-of-writing-checks-for-things-his-agents-say-appeals-fine/)
Kurt Helin

Rudy Fernandez has two agents: Andy Miller for his NBA deals and Gerard Darnes for European deals. Or does he?

During the summer of his discontent, both Miller and Darnes said things about Fernandez wanting to get out of Portland that led Fernandez to be fined.

In September it was Darnes, going on a Portland radio station and saying Fernandez wanted Portland to release him from his contract so he could return to play in Europe. That cost Fernandez $50,000 (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/11/fernandez-fined-50000-for-agents-comments/).

But according to Marc Spears of Yahoo (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=Aq3YKKXR5GWk_N1fZJtBOig5nYcB?slug=mc-afterthebuzzer102910) (via Blazers Edge (http://www.blazersedge.com/2010/10/29/1782139/spears-rudy-fernandez-files-grievance-over-latest-fine)) Fernandez has filed a grievance with the league seeking to get that latest fine overturned.

The reasoning is Darnes is not Fernandez’s American agent and he’s not even registered as his European agent. Fernandez can claim there is no legal tie there.

We’ll see if it works. It’s seems one of those things where Darnes was certainly speaking for Fernandez, but if there are no legal ties how do you say Fernandez has to control what Darnes says?

Meanwhile, on the court this season Fernandez has looked solid for Portland, giving them 20 minutes and 7 points per game. He has hit 4 of his 8 three point attempts so far. You can bet his name will come up in trade talks as the season moves along.
