http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Kobe-Bryant-won-t-be-ready-for-season-opener?urn=nba-276023
The Los Angeles Lakers, the two-time defending NBA champs, will start off the season with a difficult task: Winning without the help of Kobe Bryant(notes) and Andrew Bynum(notes).
Kobe Bryant is still trying to get his right knee stronger after having surgery in July, and Andrew Bynum hasn't begun to practice after surgery on his right knee, the Los Angeles Times reports. Bynum could be out till late November or December.
Coach Phil Jackson said that Bynum and Bryant likely won't be ready to go when the season kicks off, adding, "So we have to bring up the game and have a concept on how we want to play the game. That will be done during these next preseason games in the next week and a half."

The season opener in LA, just got a lot better if you are a Rockets fan.

Did you completely ignore the fact that Kobe is out too, or are you implying that the Bryantless, Bynumless Lakers are good enough to be the Rockets?

Not one go to guy in that bunch, Kobe is everything to the Lakers, if he is out a month, you guys will struggle to be .500
And trust me, you do NOT want Artest thinking he has to be the man...that is a disaster.

Exactly, we have so many versatile options. Our top 7 players are better than the Lakers best.
If we don't win the title for the next 7 years in a row something is seriously wrong,
7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number.
7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea.

The Lakers went 5-2 without Kobe last year(ignoring the last 2 meaningless games of the season against scrub teams, where nobody is trying)..The only 2 losses came @Denver by TWO points, and against Boston by ONE point..
They had wins @Utah, @Portland and against San Antonio..extremely impressive..
They ran their offense primarily through Gasol, so I find it kind of funny when Kobe gets too much credit for Gasol's success, which is pretty much all the time..

I think Kobe's always been more important to the team in the postseason. The Lakers would probably still win 50+ games without him in the regular season, so this won't make a huge difference, especially if he hasn't really made a mark in training camp/preseason. Lakers are still the (slight) favorites in that game.

These really do all sound like things I've seen spurs fans saying since 08.
I can't decide if its cool to see another team's fans go through the same process after winning for a few years, or sadder to think that we spurs fans have been doing this for years now. :lol

I'll give credit to Kobe for playing in 2 games in Europe, that was probably the only chance those fans could see him live, and they didn't see much. He sucked. However, he tried, and he does like to give the fans what they paid for. If he isn't playing in the season opener, I doubt he plays in any of the upcoming preseason games. If he does, he will be in the opener.
Bottom line, who really cares? Maybe we won't see any new Kobe threads or Kobe hijacks of other threads for awhile. I can dream can't I?

Pump your brakes, Homie! Even if I considered the event that the Suns would have a better record than the Rockets likely, I wouldn't make that bet. You just lost a big time contributor to your team (ergo your team has a good chance at being worse than before) while it's hard to imagine the Rockets not improving from last season (with Yao or not).
You deliver the lulz quite frequently and it would suck to see you go. You make it seem like it's such a sure thing. Maybe the Suns did something I don't remember? Hedo and Childress are world beaters all of a sudden? Did Frye grow some nuts? Please explain why you are so sure the Suns will be better than the Rockets.

wean yourself off the delusion, dummy. Rockets role players are fine as role players can be but the absence of a star player will pretty much impede their run. You fags must be retards to still consider Shite as your franchise player tbh.

Yes, you have. It's been like witchcraft. Exactly as Stern planned it. Historically brittle guys like Gasol and Odom staying healthy through two straight playoff runs, Bryant staying healthy, along with Fisher, a 35-yr-old stump.
But that will all change this year. You morons will see how the rest of the league feels.
