I really have no problem with Bonner! if he continues to make threes then I say leave him the whole game!

Manu does something that's more effective than talk trash. He gets under the skin of his opponents. Duncan does many things right and contributes in many areas, he doesnt need to pound his chest to be effective.

Taking charges is an art, its not something that can be easily learned. Players who lead the league in charges year after year are consistently the same.

I agree that he probably doesnt have it in him though, but imagine how much it would if Bonner had the enforcer label.

I'm not disagreeing that it would be nice. It would be nice also if he could block shots, or be a rebounding monster. But he is what he is. He's not ever going to be an enforcer. It's just not in him.

...(Bonner) has made 58.3 percent of his 3-point shots (21 for 35) in the nine games he has played but only 12.5 percent (3 for 24) from closer in.

...“It’s frustrating, just because it’s something I work hard on pretty much every day since last season,” Bonner said of his mid-range game after going 1 for 6 in Friday’s loss. “I just haven’t gotten it going yet.”

...“It was a big part of my offensive game last year,” he said. “For whatever reason, I’ve been struggling finishing those in-between floaters this year. I don’t think it’s from lack of skill or practice. I’ve been working hard on it every day.”

Meanwhile...

Splitter stays ready: Center Tiago Splitter logged a productive eight minutes and 17 seconds in the first half of Friday’s game, then watched the entire second half from the bench.

The 25-year-old rookie said he remains ready to contribute, no matter how much time Popovich deems appropriate.

“Well, I’m ready,” Splitter said. “I’m trying to set my mind to be ready every time the coach wants me to play four seconds or 40 minutes. I want to be ready to do it, and I’m glad to have the minutes.

“It’s a new challenge for me. I’m the new guy right here, and we have a lot of guys who have a lot of experience and know how to play here. I’m glad to have minutes and to show my basketball.”

Good to see Splitter is taking the ups and downs in stride. I'm sure he is just as confused as the rest of us as to why Bonner plays as much as he does.

Maybe Splitter should be sent to Austin to get in better shape.

Why not, it's not like he's a big part of the rotation.

If, as some posters think, Splitter doesn't have his wind right now and therefore can't play, or can't play big minutes period, or is being saved for the future . . .

Why not send him to Austin?

It happens in MLB. Maybe Splitter should go to Austin where he can get a good span of minutes against inferior competition. He can work back at his own pace to get back in shape and the Spurs can monitor his health and make certain his strained tendon is no problem.

And maybe he can work on his three-point game so he can spread the floor and cut down on his turnovers.

Boner hits some 3's early in the regular season.

idiots here defend his honor.

playoffs come and he gets abused hilariously on defense and puts up 5, 2, 0.5, and 0,0,0 per game and we lose

At this point it's a Pop issue and not a Bonner issue. It's up to Pop to play him and see if his shot is falling, and if not then bench for the game and go with someone else.

Bruno

Spurs are showcasing Bonner to trade him when he will be eligible on December 15th.

There no other logical explanations why Pop, who is recognized as one of the best coach in the NBA, gives that much minutes to Bonner and that few to Splitter.

One can always dream...

:lol ain't that the truth

The Bonner-gasm this board goes through after regular season threes or worse, wins that aren't really due to Bonner are sweaty, noisy and embarrassing.

One example is that supposed game that Bonner won for the Spurs against the Bulls. So if my memory is correct in the first half the Spurs are flat, miss easy shots near the rim and everything goes wrong, to the point that Manu misses two free throws at the end of the 1st half. Pop chews them out, and they come out and win. Just because Bonner is starting the 2nd half the Board's Bonnerlovers go crazy in love. Even though Sidney Green could have started the 2nd half and the Spurs were probably going to go on a run, but alas.

Spurs liked Bonner over Scola.

I guess we can't be too shocked that the Spurs like Bonner over another ACB MVP who can't spread the floor or go an entire season without a turnover.

Well, unlike Scola and Bonner, Splitter isn't a choker who plays no defense.

Ginger sucked tonight but so did our big three. The big three can have off games though because when it counts, they will man up. Bonner on the other hand, will disappear during crunch time and play-offs and inevitably throughout the regular season. It's not Bonner's fault Pop plays him too much. But it 's hard to watch.

We all know he can shoot 3's. Why not let him shoot the 3's and if he's on, keep him in, but goddam it, why play him so much when he's cold as hell which is more frequent then not. Again, fuck you and your Ginger love affair Pop.

12-02-2010, 01:19 AM
I think Pop is right using Bonner.. He just had a bad night but even when he's not that hot from 3-point line he still makes penetrations easier for Manu and Parker...

Blair and Splitter can't shoot so... I think pop wants to use bonner as much as he can hopping that he'll pick up some consistency... If that doesn't work then by 2011/2012 splitter will be ready...

I'm really not one of the guys that likes to critisize Pop all the time. But Jesus Christ, what on Earth was he thinking when he decided to keep Bonner in and play him for 30 freaking minutes when he was playing like utter shit, yet pull Parker out for the whole game when he just slightly struggles a bit in the 1st Half?

WTF Pop! I love you man, I really do. I'm always defending you, but I swear to god you can be an idiot sometimes. You just overthink and outsmart yourself sometimes.

Would be kinda dumb to make plans like that seeing as there's certain to be a lockout looming at the end of this season.

On a back-to-back and after a triple-double by Duncan, why didn't Pop rest Duncan and give his minutes to Splitter? I feel for Splitter - play well one game and what's his reward - sits the next game while Bonner plays 30 minutes no matter if he's clanking. Pop is going to be the death of this team come playoff time when Bonner chokes and Splitter isn't acclimated.

IMO it's better to play Duncan 34 mins (when he can get in rhythm) and sit him on back to backs than to play him 20+ each night.
