The New Orleans Hornets signed free agent center D.J. Mbenga Wednesday after they worked him out earlier in the day.
Mbenga, 7-foot, 255 pounds, played in 49 games for the Los Angeles Lakers last season, averaging 2.1 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. Mbenga registered his first career double-double on Nov. 8, 2009 against the Hornets with 10 points and 12 rebounds. He played in three games during the 2010 playoffs, averaging 1.7 points and 1.7 rebounds.

On a serious note, this guy used to play with a lot of heart and emotion. I went with my dad years back and saw him play for the Dallas Summer League team. I want to say it was Josh Howard's or Devin Harris' rookie year. They had a damn promising young group back then.

He does play hard, seems like a nice guy, and has an amazing life story.

But he's just not a very good NBA player.

I do wish him well, though. Glad that he's carved a career out for himself. He's been in the league full time now for more than 4 seasons. Not bad.
