even with T-Mac gone it'll still be fun to watch the matchups between Lakers and Rockets tbh, and i guess that's exactly the reason why Stern often chooses this couple to play the opening game tbh. it's like the 3rd time in five years that these two teams play on the opening night.
Is there a reason this thread was started more than a week early?

I'm going with the Rockets. Too much depth for a Lakers team missing Bynum and without Bryant at full strength.
Even though Yao will be be restricted to only 24 minutes, it will be nice to see Gasol have to guard someone substantially bigger than him for once. Usually, it's the other way around. We'll see how he does when he's not able to simply outsize someone, like he got to do against the undersized trio of Green, Boozer and Stoudemire, in last season's playoffs.

Well go get your knee pads and get ready to get down on that sack. Even without Yao, Houston never lost by 11 or more points against the Lakers last year.

Even that wouldn't be enough to prevent the inevitable lottery trip. Even if Yao played in a wheelchair all season he would still manage to break.

Yao Ming will start against Lakers, just as David Stern had planned (http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/25/yao-ming-will-start-against-lakers-just-as-david-stern-had-planned/)
Kurt Helin
The Lakers will hang another banner up at Staples Center and get some gaudy rings.
But that’s not the only big storyline Tuesday night in Los Angeles — Yao Ming will be back on the court.
Rockets coach Rick Adelman had a decision to make: He isn’t going to play Yao on both ends of a back-to-back, so does he play him against the Lakers Tuesday or against the Warriors Wednesday?
Really wasn’t much of a decision — the league would have pressured the Rockets anyway, Adelman joked with the Chronicle (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/7262159.html). (via Ben Maller (http://benmaller.com/))
“I imagine he’ll play in the Laker game,” Adelman said. “They’ll probably tell us we have to play him anyway. It’s a TNT game.
“I think it’s probably better to have him play that game, and then we’ll go from there.”
You could make an argument that Yao’s size would have been a bigger advantage in the Bay Area Wednesday, but Tuesday against the Bynum-less Lakers it is. NBA globalization on display, just as David Stern would have wanted.

Artest fouls on most possessions, however, they rarely call it, which is why I think it'll be interesting to watch..

We have just as much talent as the other elite teams in this division, but people don't see it just because we didn't make the playoffs last season, but still finished with a winning record (even though we lost Artest, Tmac, and Yao...our top 3 scorers)

Yes we realize it! :bang WTF do you think we're so frustrated when people write us off as a scrub team.
We have just as much talent as the other elite teams in this division, but people don't see it just because we didn't make the playoffs last season, but still finished with a winning record (even though we lost Artest, Tmac, and Yao...our top 3 scorers)
Houston has talent and will compete in this conference. ESPN and the others need to wake the well up. We are possibly the deepest team in the entire league.
I agree with this. That other guy want the rockets to get a star but they brooks, martin, scola and yao. All those guys are at least capable of making a all-star game. On top of that rockets have battier,bud,brad,c.lee,hayes,etc. That's eight or nine strong minimum.
The great thing about the rockets is the balanced talent.
Big- Scola and Yao can both score down low. Miller,Scola and yao all have a decent jumper.
Sf- Battier and Bud both can shoot the three
Sg-Kevin martin also shoots the three. Not to sure of his capabilities off the dribble.
Pg- This guy can shoot the three but he is a great at penetration.
Athletes- Bud and Lee
Defensive stopper- Battier, the team has also played great defense throughout the years.
No weak links in my opinion besides the fact that I have no clue who the back-up pg is.
I just wish the spurs could surround the big three with role players like this.
Prediction- If the spurs lose in the western conference playoffs it will be to the Rockets or Lakers.

He already has. The Lakers got a large amount of calls to go in their favor in the first half. Yao and Scola looked like shit on offense, so I hope they can find their shot in the second. Brooks and Martin picked up where they left off at the end of last season. Miller looks like he will fit in just fine with this team once he gets used to the players.

1 game doesnt mean crap let alone 1 half. My showtime Lakers would routinely get blown out on ring night ...
