.

lol In the "Hardest Games of All Time" thread, I remember you getting pissed off at Ninja Gaiden and Battletoads.

How 'bout Lifeforce or Gradius without using the Konami code?

Phillip

ninja gaiden is definitely a pain in the ass in 6-2 and 6-3 but ive always been able to beat it. i actually beat the game when i was like 9 or 10.

ive beat gradius, life force, and contra all without the konami code. battletoads really is the only game i really had a rough time with and never figured out. im sure i could beat it if i had the time, but its fucking hard

You definitely got some skills (you're playing on the actual hardware and not an emulator, right?). I can't beat Gradius unless I bitch out and use the code.

How about RC Pro-AM? There's no official "end" to the game, but after you beat level 24, the game turns over.

Lol, yeah, I seen everyone of his vids. I actually discovered him because of this site. One of the posters had a video of his in their sig.

Watching him conjured up all kinds of nostalgia for the good 'ol days, and I've been on a retro collecting binge ever since.

I've mentioned it in other threads but I still don't know who else has heard of it.

Have fun, stretch. And if you do play, let me know if you beat it...without save states obv. Never beat it on NES...only using save states on a ROM.

I have a physical copy of Amagon.

It's pretty shitty, usually making plenty of "worst of NES" lists.

Stretch, have you played any of the R-Type games?

Currently playing Super R-Type on the SNES, and it's kicking my ass. The difficulty is compounded by the game starting you at the beginning of the level when you die. Get to a boss, one shot away from success, only to get hit by a stray bullet and explode? Fuck you. Back to the beginning.

Fun game, though.

Phillip
10-20-2010, 10:12 AM
Oh yeah I had Super R-Type. I think I was able to beat it but only on easy. But I was like 7 or 8 when playing that, and lost interest quickly, because I was always more of a Gradius fan. I'll have to try it again.

I forgot about Amagon last night. Was too into the Rangers kicking Yankee ass. I'll try to get to playing Amagon tonight or tomorrow.

You'll start off the game and think "this isn't so bad" and then a few minutes later you'll realize how truly awful it is.

But, for some reason I always liked playing the game even though there was better out there to play. Maybe because I always wanted to beat it, but there was even something about the gameplay that I liked. I don't know why.

:lmao

This piece of shit is definitely a game where you need the instruction manual to figure out what to do. To beat the boss, you have to press select (if I remember correctly) to power up Amagon (after you've collected the necessary item). He transforms into a giant, muscular Incredible Hulk-like form that can defeat bosses in just a few hits.

This might help.

Yeah, that's one of the dumb things about the game is that you have to be Megagon to beat any of the bosses, but it becomes increasingly harder to get through the levels without pressing select at least once or without running out of bullets.

And, it only takes one hit to die.

Truly one of the best shittiest games ever made for NES.

AnthonyM

You really should try again, the first level isn't actually hard once you realize you can turn into Megagon.

Other than that, I don't know. Honestly, Super Mario Bros. 3 while going through all the worlds without using any flutes or cheats (like getting infinite lives) can be pretty difficult, but not really torture worthy. Can't say I've ever beat the game without using flutes though :/

Once, when I was like 10 or 11, I actually got through SMB 3 without cheats or flutes, although I didn't do it myself. Me and a friend played it for like 4 or 5 hours until we finally beat it. I should try again.

Yeah, I could probably do it, but I don't know if I'd have the patience. Same with the original SMB. I always used warp zones, though I imagine that'd be easier than SMB3.
