Ennio Morricone is the master. I'd either go with Good, Bad, and the Ugly or Once Upon a Time in the West. Mansell and Carter Burwell are great too.

Ennio Morricone is the master.

+1. A few of my favs from him:
-The Untouchables
-The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
-Once Upon a Time In America (that soundtrack is almost strictly instrumental and it'll almost bring you to tears at certain moments)

The Misson (Morriconne) - On Earth as it is in Heaven just floors me every time I hear it:
nye62rh7aaQ

Not Another Teen Movie (various)
Amadeus (3 disc set)
Gladiator (Zimmer) - some of the battle music could be right out of Holst's The Planets. I also really like the ending music - haunting & joyful at the same time:

I thought he dies in the trash truck.

The implication was that Max (James Woods) died in the trash truck-but it wasn't shown.

This. That movie (the legit, almost 4-hr version of it) still has one of the best and most confusing/heartwrenching endings ever, with De Niro's character (Noodles) hiding out in the opium theater. Takes a bunch of hits, lays back, and smiles as the credits roll. Damn I love that movie:toast

Empire Strikes Back- Darth Vader's theme, Yoda's theme, Han and Leia's theme...

When Harry Met Sally- Harry Connick Jr.- timeless jazz standards

Living Out Loud -An ok movie, but an awesome soundtrack of jazz standards. Queen Latifah's rendition of Lush Life is one of the best I've heard. \

The Rocky Collection-The Training Montage in Rocky IV because it helps you believe chopping logs and lifting boulders can help you beat a 6 foot 5 Russian on roids.

Natural Born Killers
The Matrix
Trainspotting
Se7en
When Harry Met Sally
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Batman Forever (well, half of it, at least)
The Crow
anything by Guy Ritchie
anything by Tarantino
all mafia/gangster movies by Scorsese
anything by Wes Anderson

Had to echo my first response in this thread again, simply for the Last of the Mohicans score. I don't know if a theme can be both beautiful and bad-ass, but this almost pulls it off:

risky business--the music by tangerine dream is perfect for the movie and the time (early 80's).

Goddamn. I've been wanting to see this, was encouraged to even more the first time it was mentioned in this thread, and then everybody proceeds to give away every part of the ending.

How 'bout a spoiler alert every once in a while, for FUCK'S sake...

You'll still enjoy it...it's 4 hours long so you'll forget what we said and get lost in the movie, imho.

You never see, it's assumed, or you come up with your own conclusions...just like the ending. It's up for the viewer's interpretation. That's why it's a masterpiece

CF beat me to it, but the Crow is an epic soundtrack! Hackers was also great as well. For classical The Phantom Menace score was actually better than the movie itself.
