Splitter likely to miss start of season (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/2010/10/splitter-likely.html)
By Jeff McDonald

..."I'm not planning on Tiago for the opening night," Popovich said before Thursday's preseason finale against Houston. "If he's going to be ready, he'll have to change my mind."

...He is close to returning to 5-on-5 action in practice.

Wow, I'm seriously starting to wonder how bad the injury was for him to miss almost a month... But I feel that the spurs training staff is playing it safe and wants him to be completely healthy for the season. It's good that he gets extended rest after playing with Caja and Brazil.

Agreed. If it was another player, then I think people would take things with more of a grain of salt. But the majority of Spurs fans are chomping at the bit to see if this guy is really going to bring anything to the table, and he's been nothing but another ethereal player for years now; nothing but potential. After the Scola saga, i think patience has worn thin for most.

Hell come off the bench when he starts playing but I would think the starting spot will be his by all star break.

Not a big deal, just more time for the Red Rocket to establish a spot in the rotation for the year:tu..

Let Tiago rest. I for one am looking forward to seeing how Blair fits into the starting lineup. Tiago can start on the bench when he recovers and work his way into the rotation. No need to hurry him cause Blair is playing well.

I understand that Tiago has put the time to good use and has learned to speak French. He is planning on not playing for the French National team next year.

Not important if he plays in game 1 but would be nice see him get 1 min or some symbolic PT and finally loose his nba virginity.

The muscle strain that kept Spurs rookie Tiago Splitter out of the entire preseason likely will keep him on the sidelines for the team's regular season opener Tuesday.
Lucky for us Spurs opener is on Wednesday...

Does Tiago have a history of being a "slow healer"?

another ST poster pointed something out about reading into what pop had said so im not taking credit but pop had said "his body had been telling him something for a long time and we think tiago should listen to that" meaning hes probably been playing through pain for a very long time.

like ive said tiago has that ginobili attitude/desire so im sure theyre forcing him to sit/in reality i bet he could get up and play today. however this demanded rest is probably the best thing for him! im sure his other coaches let him play if he felt he could which is really dumb considering hes been playing with pain for quite some time. i bet tiagos going to come out as hungry and as strong as a lion without those nagging muscles, he should play even better than before

He is real. I have seeeeen heeeeeeem.

I even saw the kid, Ryan Richards, @ the game yesterday. His arm was in a sling, most likely due to shoulder surgery, but daaamn that kid is tall.

He's our next Robert Horry, except better. A 19 year old athletic 7 footer who can hit the three. :stirpot:

Incidentally, cantthinkofanthing told me that he can start new threads and post whatever he wants. But the funny part is that Kori set it up so no one can see his comments or posts but him.

He told me to pass on "RJ is gay" and "GO SPURS!"

Some how I have a feeling that Splitter is going to get raped by the refs and foul trouble will be his issue throughout his early campaign this season. Hopefully I'm wrong and his NBA inexperience won't cause defensive foul / offensive PNR fouls issues because Timmy looks like a concrete statue on pick n roll D.

Insert "Ian" every where you see "Tiago" or "Splitter" and this thread will mirror many 07,08, 09 spurs off season threads

Just curious... why do have a feeling the refs are gonna rape him?
