A back injury will force once-beaten heavyweight contender Shane Carwin to withdraw from his matchup with “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 winner Roy Nelson at UFC 125 “Resolution” on Jan. 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Carwin made the announcement on Tuesday.

“I am going to pull out of the fight with Roy Nelson,” Carwin wrote on his blog at www.shane-carwin.com. “As many of you know, I have been having some back pain. I had an MRI yesterday, and I have some damage that may really require surgery. If the doctors do not have to perform surgery, then I will be out 8-12 weeks. If they do have to perform surgery, I do not know how long I will be out of action.”

Between losing to Brock, the steroid accusations and now pulling out of this fight, Carwin's stock should has plummeted..

I doubt he gets Brock again right away. UFC needs to get BRock back on track with a less risky fight..

*lightbulb in my head*

Why not replace him with Lesnar? I don't think Big Country is too much of a risk for Lesnar

Doubtful that cut will heal before the 1st of the year. Also doubtful he'd want to turn around after such an grueling training camp and start up so soon.

couldn't they just move it back a couple events? I think Lesnar's worth it. But then maybe Carwin would be fine by then and it wouldn't make a difference...:wakeup

MMAJunkie says:

Lesnar, who suffered a first-round TKO loss to new champ Velasquez, is suspended 180 days with no contact for 180 days due to possible eye injuries, though he can be cleared early by an ophthalmologist. Regardless, he faces a 60-day suspension with no contact for 60 days due to a left-cheek laceration. Even if the 60-day suspension hadn't been levied, he had faced a 45-day suspension with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons.

Yeah i don't think Brock's injuries will have him out 6 months but 2 months for sure before he gets back into serious training.. I doubt we see him back in the cage until the spring, march or april. Then maybe again in the summer..
