Considering Anderson's first defensive assignment was against Danny Granger, I think he's done fairly well. With Jefferson being strapped to the bench with fouls, Anderson has been forced into handling the scorer and although Granger has 26 points on 10-19 shooting, he also has only shot 5 FTs and has 4 TOs. Good numbers, but he's had to work for his points and has hit some tough threes.

Sure, Anderson's defense has room to improve....but this is just his first professional game. He should do nothing but improve from here.

4th quarter offensive execution was excellent. D in the first 3 quarters was very unremarkable. McDyess height and experience in lieu of Blair in the 2nd half was much needed.

Spot on.

TD and Manu were great the whole game

RJ looks better than last season on O, much more agressive and his J looks good

Hill with a great 2nd half. TP was good but I think he can get even better

Anderson played well, passed up some shots but good play in the 1st game

Blair D is still bad but let's hope it'll improve during the season

I agree with all that. TP had a good game overall IMO. He's looking good to me. He could have played better, but I loved his aggressive play. George had a great second half. Great comeback George!

Blair has to get better on defense. If he can't get better than he can't be anything more than an energy guy on a Championship contender. You can do it DB, just get working at it. D is the main thing Dejuan needs to work on most.

However he turned the ball over too much in the first half; I think due to the pace. But if an average game (or below average to you) from TP yields 20 pts (on 50% shooting), 9 assists and 3 steals (and leading the team in plus/minus), I'll take it.

- Duncan looked dominant tonight, as he has looked in the 1st half of the season the last 2 years..when he's healthy, he's still as good as any big man in the NBA..hopefully the Spurs can get it right this time, something they didn't do the last 2 years, and keep him fresh..he's still alone defensively though..

- Manu looked really good in the 1st half, not as good in the 2nd, but still great..he looks a lot better than he did to start the season last year, particularly his jump shot..

- Parker didn't look great to me, even though his numbers look good..his explosiveness is off and he's still out of sync..is this bad news?..not at all..it's pretty scary that Parker can look like that and still have a decent game for his standards..he's going to be a lot better IMO..

- Jefferson looked good..he didn't just stand in the corner and wait for jump shots..he attacked, he cut to the basket, he played hard..all you can ask for..

- Blair started off well, but he played poorly the rest of the game..he should be the #1 option off the bench with Hill IMO, 2 man game between them most of the time..he looks for his shot too much to be a starter on this team..

- Hill had a horrible first half, really good 2nd half..he had no speed at all in the 1st half, he couldn't get by anybody, he was passive..complete opposite in the 2nd half..

- Anderson impressed me..he started off looking scared, but his confidence clearly got better as the game went on..he was putting up shots, driving to the basket..he played hard D, obviously Granger is too long and good for him right now..

- McDyess's shot looks good, looks better than it looked to start last season..he's going to have to play a bigger role with Bonner and Splitter out, so hopefully he's in good enough shape..

- Simmons looked horrible..he isn't an NBA player..

Since the defense showed up, I'll now share a couple of thoughts:

First of all, if the NBA is going to terminate the broadcast before the game is over, they can kiss goodbye any chance of my purchasing it. Really the opposite of what a free preview is supposed to do.

Duncan looked amazing. He didn't start off well, and Hibbert was ready to play before Timmy was. He didn't get some calls, and seemed to use some of that to just go back and get his own. Some of the moves he made were so impressive and effortless it's no wonder people don't realize how good he is. Taking the first three quarters off playing D'Antoni ball kept him fresh for the fourth quarter lockdown. That was fun to watch.

George looked awful to start, and got way better toward the end. I think he began to improve the moment he wasn't asked to run the offense. This team needs a backup point guard. Bad.

Anderson looked really good. For a rookie who's way undersized to go in and have to play Danny Granger, I was quite impressed. He doesn't look lost, and his defense wasn't terrible. Note to Pop: PLAY MORE FUCKING PICK AND ROLL WITH THOSE GUYS ON THE FLOOR!

RJ looks like a different player. There is little doubt he understands what's going on FAR better this season. He put up numbers like tonight a few times last year, but they were meaningless stats. He really contributed tonight.

Blair looked, well, undersized. There. I said it.

Bobby Simmons just sucks so bad I can't describe it. At least he got pulled out before he gave the lead back to Indiana. I expect him to be starting before Thanksgiving.

Ice009
10-27-2010, 10:25 PM
RJ being aggressive is also great. I liked his game tonight. If he is aggressive and drawing fouls that is HUGE for us. Doesn't matter if he doesn't always get the AND 1 play, just drawing those fouls helps a lot.

When you draw lots of fouls and get to the free throw line a lot that can really hurt the other team and it also gets us some rest so we can refocus on defense.

I'm sort of with you on this. Parker didn't play well, and showing me a box score isn't going to convince me that he did. I'll turn that box score around and show how fucking scary he's going to be when he actually DOES start to play well.

Once Tiago shows up, as long as Anderon doesn't screw everything up off the Bench and just plays ok, I see no reason why Simmons should be getting any minutes at all. I'm talking about one single minute.

RJ is playing great. Love his new jumper.

What we need to work on is our Defense, (which I imagine will naturally be better once we enter 7-foot Tiago in the rotation), and we gotta limit turnovers. But is only Game 1, so I'm not gonna rant on anything. Lets see how things go Saturday against the Hornets.

George Hill also played fantastic in the 2nd Half. Hope he becomes a little more consistent throughout an entire game and run the offense a little better. If he does that, it would be good seeing him, Anderson and Tiago tearing up opponent benches across the league. :)

You were asking for it. tbh

I'll admit Simmons didnt look good but to totally bash him is a little over the top...Obviously the Spurs have stuck with him for a reason..Always remember we are fans and they are coaches who actually get paid to scout players and thier impact on teams...give the guy some more time before going all out after the first game...

Yeah he must be really good in practice. :rolleyes

A good summary, although you forgot your avatar man! Manu looked like mid-decade Manu tonight - creative, tough, healthy, and ahppy to be playing basketball.

Also, TP - started slowly, but improved as the game went on. Madea couple of bone-headed TOs but mostly made good decisions. Finishing improved as the game went on. Jumper still there. All in all, nice to see.

:)

The argument isn't done because you keep posting up fake quotes from the other person. So knock it the fuck off. You've been doing it for several pages now and it's finally getting annoying. I wouldn't have to act like your father if you didn't act like a stupid bratty kid who doesn't know when to shut up.

The argument was done before your retarded post, moron. Shut the fuck up and stop acting like so high and mighty like your post was necessary to resolve our dispute, because it wasn't.

Woah! DeAndre Jordan just hit two FTs! And looked good doing it, like Grizzly's FT shooting tonight. It's a season of surprises! :lmao
