I hope he's not injured that bad, but I really hope he misses a lot of time, did you see the diff in the game when he left? Simmons did a better job!

Here's to him missing the entire season!

Simmons did not do a better job. In fact the only player who had a worse game than Bonner in a Spurs uniform was Simmons.

Simmons was horrible on D. Our best interior defender tonight was McDyess, IMO

Well, as soon as he went out, the Spurs lead increased. But seriously, I hope he's not hurt too bad. I agree...I don't mind him playing...I just mind him playing too much.

As for Simmons, I wasn't sure what to expect, but he makes Udoka and Bogans look like All Stars. Why in God's name did we sign this guy?

The Spurs didn't play defense until the fourth quarter. That has nothing to do with Bonner or Simmons. Bonner was a thousand times better than Simmons was in every possible way.

Bonner was better than Simmons, but his injury is probably a good thing for this team seeing as how Pop will always play Matt way too many minutes.

Simmons was brutal tonight, but hopefully he ends up in the doghouse or gets cut sooner than later.

This.... It wasnt Bonners fault at all that our defense was playing like a bunch of 5yr old girls on the court for the fisrt 3 quarters.

I dont like Bonner, but Im not going to hate on him just because its the trend around here. for the time he played, he did well enough.

+1..And since Splitters debut is right around the corner, I hope Tiago takes most if not all of Bonners minutes...

It may seem like good news that Boner is out, but it only means more minutes for Timmy and Simmons, two bad scenarios.

Sprain will force Bonner to miss some action (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/sprain_will_force_bonner_to_miss_some_action_10596 3303.html)
By Mike Monroe

X-rays of the ankle were negative, but Bonner is certain to miss Saturday's home game against the New Orleans Hornets and likely a few more.

“He'll be out for a while,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “Not a long while, but I think he'll miss some games.”

No matter how much you haters rag on Bonner, Pop sees something in him that is still helping the team to win. Pop and his coaching staff is smarter than all of us when it comes to his team.

I guess but that backfires at times, when it comes to overplaying Bonner and we are horrible on interior D and he misses wide open threes late in the year, he hurts more than helps then. Pop is mostly right, but not always there.

Fail. It wasn't helping the team to win when Bonner was starting 70 games at center.

With Tiago getting healthy this should not effect the rotation too much. I would much rather have bonner than simmons though due to simmons looking completely clueless out there.

Why would you want him to miss the season?? I agree he needs a limit to his minutes, but the guy adds DEPTH. I mean theres nights when he stinks it up, but theres also the nights where he's hitting his "sky hook" and grabbing boards, hitting 3's, and hustling. What happens if we lose another big man? We don't exactly know when Splitter is gonna play. Use your brain guy.

well the difference in the game really was when McDyess came in for BLAIR. then Hibbert was subbed out. And Timmy Duncan came back in.

Blair was stinking it up last nite

Tiago's return should negate Bonner's absence - to a degree. Also, his injury will likely give more court time to Simmons. Perhaps we'll see a better showing from him.

I'd feel terrible too if Pop went out with some injury/illness that forced him to miss the year. Him, Bonner and golly gosh even Bobby Simmons out. That would really hurt our playoff chances.

I think Bonner's value this year actually goes up if the Spurs continue to push the pace like they did last night. He is a great spot-up 3-point shooter in transition and if the opposing C/PF has to chase him off the 3-point line that will open up the lane for TP/Manu/RJ/Hill to attack the rim.

Playing at a frenetic pace and focusing more on scoring rather than defense may suit Bonner's strengths as a player and may work against alot of teams, but it almost always backfires against the elite. We've seen this happen year after year.

When Tiago and Bonner are back and in midseason form "fear the Spur's deer" I say; we could potentially have a top 3 bigman rotation IMO. B/W our 5 bigs there are just a ton different froncourt looks we can give people.

Suddenly our 3 specialist bigs become a lot more dangerous when we can throw the twin towers out there for a spell to stop layup drills.

I was shouting for joy when Bonner went down! I care for him as a person but I knew that this is the only way pop wont play him! We are much better without bonner. As for Simmons- I want him out of town. I will pay his ticket if the Spurs cut him. teams walk by him regularly and it was the last straw when he air balled that three at the end of the half (or whenever) on Tuesday.

I don't have a vendetta against Matty either, but why are Pop and R.C. still big on this guy? I think he's a good player, but he lacks the intangibes that makes him a quality back up at the 4 or 5 for the Spurs.

When he was re-signed, R.C. and Pop mentioned how important it was for them to have that "stretch four" player. The truth is though, since they started relying on the stretch 4 enough to give him significant minutes, the Spurs haven't won a championship. Now yes, the defense is horrid, with or without Bonner. But let's look at who Bonner replaced as the primary back up at that spot. Horry was much more than a "stretch four". He would physically defend, fight for boards, and could even post and pass. Let's not forget his clutchness during the playoffs. Bonner's greatest quality [at least for the regular season] is shooting, which is a good thing...if you're a guard. Now I know Horry's shoes are big to fill, but you figured the Spurs would have searched for a player with more than one similar quality in Horry's replacement.

Again, not a Bonner basher, but I have to agree with everyone here saying he shouldn't see significant minutes, which obviously doesn't bode well with the contract he just signed.

The Spurs won a championship with Bonner getting about 12 minutes per game so it's not like he can't contribute to an elite team. The problem is that he is not an NBA-level starter and that was the position the front office forced him into when Horry finally ran out of gas and a 34-year-old Oberto and 37-year-old Kurt Thomas were the other bigs in 08-09.

The Spurs learned Thursday they could be without sharpshooting center Matt Bonner for up to two weeks with a sprained right ankle. Some took the news better than others.

Antonio McDyess, the 36-year-old center/forward who appears in line for more minutes with Bonner shelved, called it “devastating.”

There's that trademark McDyess wry sense of humour again. :lol

Jefferson’s theory is that the Spurs might play a bit more small ball, using Simmons as a small “four” to approximate Bonner’s floor-stretching abilities. Of course, Jefferson could have an ulterior motive for stumping for Simmons as a backup big man. A fish out of water as the Spurs’ small-ball four last season, Jefferson has been looking to pawn that role off on someone else this season.

Somebody outta tell him to sack up, but then I remember this is RJ were talking about..

Bonner played 2.8 minutes per game and in doing so lit up the 2007 playoffs with 0.8 and 0.3 points/rebounds per game.

2008 4.5 minutes
2009 20 minutes where he really sucked ass
2010 17.3 for more suckage.
