Found a great one this evening.

A rarity when you will find a 30 year reunion cut better than the original cut that was legendary upon it's 1969 release:::

On Pandora this morning I came across a recording in studio by Glen Campbell. Webb was with him in the studio and convinced GC to record "Galveston" in the manner that Webb wrote & intended it. A slow, dramatic epitaph. It was impressive this way.

A prewar Alabama blues mix.

Lucille Bogan
Walter Roland
Sonny Scott
William Harris
Eli Framer
"Bogus" Ben Convington (pretended to be blind)
Birmingham Jug Band
Ed Bell
Edward Thompson
Peanut the Kidnapper
Marshall Owens
Alabama Sheiks
Boweavil Jackson
Daddy Stovepiple...he was born in 1880's. Making him one of the oldest to record.

While a lot of this old stuff is pretty primitive, it gets no more primitive than Alabama.

Sonny Scott

I'm disappointed that you didn't include any "Dicks" in your list. But that's offset somewhat by your acknowledgement of Pee Pee the Kidnapper.

You totally missed my point.

I'll try again.....

Bob Dylan is a folk singer, his big influenses were old blues cats, Lead Belly, Woody Guthrie. He is into a whole other sound than Queen. If you are looking for a blues, folk feel, then a guy like Freddie Mercury is useless, he's not ....down in the alley....gruff.....bottom of the barrell.....ok? Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Elton John aren't Joe Cocker, Dr. John, Leon Russell.......ok? It 's about what ya wanna listen to.

John Lee Hooker can't sing opera and an opera singer could never sell.....I'm a crawling Kingsnake.

The Big Band sound of Count Baisie or ZZ Top? Not about better, it's about style.

Ya wanna listen to a hick with a banjo playing them Appalachian blues, enter....Dock Boggs. Freddie Mercury.....hahahahaha~~~~~~

I MUST have a huge variety of music, my moods ya understand. So that's what I have.

Imagine a black reverend singing' about... Drinking Shine... with the congregation adding their asides, talking 1927. The Big Band sound of Harry James, the gutbucket blues of early John Lee Hooker. Those 50's vocal groups...The Platters, The Coasters, The Flamingos, etc. Merle Haggard, Waylon, Willie, Johnny Cash, gotta love it.

Then there's...Day of the New, Offspring, Train, Grant Lee Buffalo, Blind Melon, Counting Crows, The Why Store etc.

Soul and funk, R&B.

Hell....The Beatles, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Traffic, The Doors, etc

So much musc.

In the last 24 hours.....

Lead Belly was discovered in Angola prison as was Robert Pete Williams. Muddy Waters was discovered while looking for the deceased Robert Johnson. The stories behind the music very interesting.

Floyd Council recorded a half dozen sides in the late 30's, he is not among the elite in the blues world. He's one of the obscure, how Pink (1927 blues cat but with a rep) FLOYD even knew about this guy...????? And Pink Floyd not a blues band, so.....???

No, I don't mean overly simple. There are plenty of simple songs that I like. And there are plenty of complex songs that suck.

But to me, there wasn't any hooks on their songs to pull me in. That being said, I only heard the handful of songs that were on the radio or MTV. Of those, Zombie was pretty good.

I really never paid much attention to the band but as I said I liked the drums on Zombie. I doubt they're as bad as you think.

Any nominations for resident jazz and blues expert here at ST? I'd ask pgardn but since he's got his plate full with being the speed and track Nobel-level expert, it would be asking too much. God damnit, we need an expert on this, stat.

Dude, anyone who thinks some middle school kid can run a 20,00 200m knows....0....about sprinting, ok?

Dude, there is nobody here who can talk them blues/jazz but....me. Live with it.

Then ya add football, music in general, yep....a damn know it all.

Watch this...

What old blues cat only recored ....one...side, and nobody knows his name or how that happened. On the record he calls himself............?

Dude, what can you talk about, well?Everyone here can talk about a lot of things. Bragging about being able to talk about something is useless bad form.

We can bicker more about this in your thread if you have to.

I'm sorry, man. You're just not the expert people want. We're looking for experts that can substantiate their knowledge. We need more substance than simple lists with names. We need the "what" and "how" behind those "whos" and no one is convinced you can provide this info.

Came across a John Lee Hooker CD today he recorded in 1960....That's My Story.

So, ya mix....

Jimmy Reed his 1960 recordings
Mississippi Fred McDowell who first recorded in 1959
Mance Lipscomb who first recorded in 1960
Lightnin' Hopkins 1959 recordings
Robert Pete Williams who was first recorded at Angola Prison around that time
Muddy Waters recordings from around that time

That will work.

Can't believe I slept on them either. This was right in the heart of the 90's, and I was heavily into the grudge scene.

Train, Creed and Godsmack a good mix with them.

It appears the band just didn't get along so short lived.
