midnightpulp alerted me one history2b claimed mp and I know nothing about the game. I responded in that thread with some Lakers trivia to see what he knew about his team. Naturally, he ignored the thread. I maintain I forgot more about the game than he ever knew. You guys could probably all beat me one on one if we were in our primes, and outcoach me me in prep ball, and train your team better, but I do know quite a bit about the game I collected over the years.

Both Lakers haters and lovers will enjoy some of these questions.

Anyway, I thought the questions could be fun and since probably few of you even saw them I expanded the original 25 Lakers questions to 50, covering NBA, ABA, and college hoops. Let's see how man you can get, I'll report back what's right and give remaining answers when thread falls off page 1.

Let be as abundantly clear as i possibly can here:

PLAYING TRIVIAL PURSUIT NBA EDITION DOES MEAN YOU KNOW THE GAME OF BASKETBALL

The average Jeopardy contestant would correctly answer more of these questions than the average NBA player or coach would.

I find it unbelievably hilarious and clear sign a jackass doesn't know the game when they start talking about advanced statistics or they boast about random irrelevant basketball trivia as means to justify their "knowledge." Daddy of all trolls is no different. Run of the mill internet douche who thinks he knows something he does not.

You don't have to go all the way back to the 60's, 70's and 80's to stoop me with this irrelevant nonsense. I don't know what Kobe Bryant's favorite colonge is nor do I know the Pau Gasol's favorite book. That is not my focus, never cared about anything beyond what takes place on the hardwood for 48 minutes at a time. And that will continue to be my sole focus for as long as I follow the game.

Hope this helps for anyone else who might think that knowing Gregg Popovich's favorite funk jam of the 70s might be as a means to hold basketball intellect over another person's head.

The irony is rich with this one considering that you haven't had one legitimate basketball take in your short time here. It's either Laker cocksucking or Spurs bashing.

LOL, Butthurt much?

So says the guy who got clowned and punked by other Lakers fans when he joined LakersGround, I posted that link. Anyone can google search history2B and get the link.

So says the guy who claimed it as a fact the Spurs were done, and I proved that fact is only opinion.

So says the guy who claims greatness in the NBA has always been measured by rings won. I proved that wasn't true as well.

You are a troll. I am your daddy. I am the Daddy of all Trolls, get it?

By the way, I don't use advanced stats either. What you saw here in this thread is just a sampling of my vast knowledge. I've watched the game since the early 1960s. If I can remember all that I posted, what do you think I know about the game. You offer no proof I don't, only your opinion. It's a fun thread, just what this board needs outside of all the troll initiated garbage we see every day.

Also, who decides what a basketball topic to discuss, you?

Look at questions 10 and 25. If you were a coach, or one of those players, wouldn't you want to be certain the same thing didn't happen again? Very basketball related.

There is a lot of smack to be had in this thread, something a worthless troll like you lives for. Certainly you have heard the "Kobe is a rapist" rants. How about the Laker who actually hired a hitman to kill his coach?

I have a lot of bitches here, see my profile. Would you like to be my bitch as well? Argue away and watch how I turn your words against you.

No

So says the guy who claims greatness in the NBA has always been measured by rings won. I proved that wasn't true as well.

You'd do well to reconsider your position..I'd definitely like to know how you proved this....greatness and champion can be de-coupled...and analyzed separately especially if you're considered great but have no title. if you don't win titles but have a great career then at the end of the day you're legacy takes a hit no matter how you slice it...it's not totally fair but that's the ultimate measuring stick. sure you can make the hall of fame and get some acclaim and recognition but a title is the crown of a career. and yes ring accumulation is different for role players vs star players. Horry's 7 rings still won't get him into the HOF and they don't mean much when compared to Barkley or Malone's career simply because he was a role player and never had to carry a team. It would be like comparing Oranges to Mandarinquats...

Let Magic tell it..that's it and that's all:

"The great thing about the Lakers is that we judge by championships,'' said Magic, who -- along with Kareem, Kobe and crucial role player Derek Fisher (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=246) -- has won a handful of rings with the Lakers. "So when Kobe gets that next one, then he'll be The Man; he'll be the greatest Laker. And I'll have no problem giving him that.''

Need more perspective... I'll suggest a good read:

And I like drama. I want to see these two go at it, hence my Bill Russell thread.

Not like I was in a police station and ratted on the guy who won me 3 titles or anything.

And I like drama. I want to see these two go at it, hence my Bill Russell thread.

Not like I was in a police station and ratted on the guy who won me 3 titles or anything.

:huh:huh

Who the fuck would even think about doing that?..

The irony is rich with this one considering that you haven't had one legitimate basketball take in your short time here. It's either Laker cocksucking or Spurs bashing.

Nothing ironic about that at all. You should learn and understand what the difference between a coincidence and irony.

Regardless, in my experience thus far, legitimate basketball discussions and Spurstalk don't mix. Too many Spurs dipsticks with Laker sticks jammed too far up their ass to sensibly talk about anything. Like yourself midnight, a self admitted troll/spammer. What is there to ever talk about with the likes of you? lol.

Look. I'm gonna start a Bill Russell "overrated?" thread. Daddy thinks he's overrated, History2b thinks he's a top 5 player of all time. Let's see who can make the better arguments.

Why don't you just let history2b start the thread? . . . oh, wait . . . never mind.

I'll suggest a good read:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2010/columns/story?columnist=broussard_chris&page=kobe-100618
the key to my statement is history2b claims greatness has always been measured by rings. It wasn't always that way, it's a recent thing. See the Russell overrated thread for my explanation. If rings were a measure of greatness, Wilt with 1 ring in 1970 would never have been considered the GOAT. Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, and Jerry West had none at the time and were considered #'s 2-4.

On topic, since you are a Lakers fan, can you answer any of the trivia questions? Certainly, you want to know the answers.

Amazing to see all these Laker fans "clown" and "punk" me by telling me to post the topic in another section of the website. Again, what perceptive insight you have.

Spurs are done. This is fact to everyone with 2 eyes, a brain and zero Spurs homerism.

Nope, you didn't prove that rings weren't the measure of greatness ever. I'm sure in your head you believe that to be true but factually speaking that never happened.

I'm not a troll; connection failed.

Never said you did use advanced stats. Everything really isn't about you despite what you may think. I've met plenty of fans of basketball who've watched their whole life and they still don't know the game very well; case in point a moron on the internet who points to his vast knowledge of irrelevant factoids as a means of relative intelligence.

I welcome the challenge of someone like you turning my words against me, lol.

If you decide to respond please be sure to talk more about how the team that gets swept out the lowly Phoenix Suns really aren't "done."

Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eirōneía, meaning dissimulation or feigned ignorance)[1] is a rhetorical device, literary technique, or situation in which there is an incongruity or discordance that goes beyond the simple and evident meaning of words or actions.

Your criticizing of others for their lack of basketball knowledge while having none yourself is "an incongruent situation." It's the very definition of classic irony.

I didn't misread that, did I?

Giuseppe requested the answers, ignore them if you still wish to try your luck. Most are verifiable if you search the internet hard enough. We're going off my memory though, if anyone has any corrections, please advise. I tried to make the answers interesting with some embellishment of the answers.

Other than the answers, thread is best for the ownage wrought on history2b.

1) Why did Elgin Baylor retire? Specifically.
He was informed his starting spot was being given to Jim McMillian, who needed the minutes. Elgin retired rather than go to the bench, silly pride.

2) What Buffalo Brave player fell on Jerry West in spring 1971 knocking him out of the rest of the season?
Bob Kauffman

3) Why did the Lakers draft Walt Hazzard and Gail Goodrich?
Territorial draft picks. Used to be a rule NBA teams could draft local college players, in this case both from UCLA, to help at the gate.

4) Name 2 Lakers that were suspended in the 70s for throwing punches, and who did they hit.
Kermit Washington and Kareem. KW pucnhed Rudy Tomjanovich and damned near killed him. Kareem hit Kent Benson, broke his jaw and hos own hand.

5) What Lakers superstar saw the owner give his 3 adolescent sons future NBA contracts. What was special about that night?
Jerry West night, and he was injured, see question 2, Lakers lost to Phoenix. Jack Kent Cooke gave Jerry's boys future contracts. Probably illegal, but they never amounted to anythng anyway.

6) What happened to Kareem's jazz record collection?
Kareem may have owned the largest such collection in the world and it burned in a house fire. Fans from everywhere helped him replace it. This act of kindness helped Kareem come out of his isolation he felt against society.

7) How did Kareem celebrate the 1980 championship after the buzzer?
Trick question because Kareem was back in LA recovering from a sprained ankle suffered in game 5. Reports later quoted Kareem as saying he struggled out to his backyard and "Screamed".

8) Last year, the NBA had a commercial where Magic Johnson utters the phrase, "Get back into our game". What game was that from?
Game 4, NBA finals 1987, right after Magic's "Junior Sky Hook". Getting "back into our game" was in reference to the Lakers coming back from down 16 points.

9) Who did Magic Johnson first hug after the 1980 championship was won?
Butch Lee. It was a "kiss of death" in a way, Lee never played in the NBA again.

10) Magic Johnson unbelievably committed the same silly error in the 1984 finals that a Maverick did in the western playoffs. What was it?
On the WCSF Derek Harper of the Mavs dribbled out the clock in game 4 when score was tied without getting a shot off. Harper thought Mavs were ahead, Lakers won in OT. In game 2 in Boston finals, Magic dribbled out the clock in a tie game. The Lakers had been ahead, but a bad pass by Worthy seconds before allowed a tie. Lakes lost in OT.

11) What Portland player in the 1977 WCF did the Lakers have no answer for?
Maurice Lucas, who just passed away. I mentioned he was the answer to a trivia question in his RIP thread. This was the question.

12) What Lakers foe in the 1988 playoffs did Pat Riley say the Lakers had no answer for? You get to figure out who and what series.
Roy Tarpley, Mavs.

13) Why should Jerry West's 60 foot shot to tie the Knicks in 1970 finals at the buzzer have been disallowed?
Because Chamberlain never took the ball out of bounds before he passed it to west on the inbounds play. Wilt had one foot in bounds, the other out.

14) What NBA legend co-authored a book about those 1969-70 Knicks?
