If this is a knock on Deron Williams, you didn't do a really good job.

sons for those of you hating on my list, how about you make your own? I judge players by their individual talent and leadership they show towards their teams. I don't just copy and paste whatever list of best players that ESPN puts up ... like most of you do.

son this has nothing to do with Williams ... if you have followed my post over the years then you will know that I absolutely HATE Dallas and Dirk. However I will give Dirk his props. I personally feel that he is without a doubt a top 15 player. The fact of the matter is that Williams isn't even in the top 3 best at his own position so he has absolutely no business being ranked inside the top 15 ... top 20 or 25? yes.

1. Chris Paul
2. Steve Nash
3. Derrick Rose
4. Rondo
5. Deron Williams
6. Tony Parker

son I just don't understand the trendy "grassroots-like" movement for DWill ... what ever happened to the best man at his position gets the job? why do some people feel the need to hype this guy up as if he is the next coming of Magic Johnson? .... the dude is without a doubt a top 4 or 5 NBA point guard, but considering him better than guys like Chris Paul, Steve Nash, etc. is downright ridiculous. hell I would take Rondo, Rose and Parker over Williams as well ... I give Williams his props for being a damn good point guard, but there is a reason why he is always second, third, and fourth place in damn near every category. How can someone who has NEVER led the league at the point guard position in ANYTHING be considered the best? can we talk about Nash being the best? shit yea we can ... you can easily argue that, but Deron Williams? grow up

lol

son that's not a bad list, but Dwight Howard is overrated. top 10 player? of course ... but not top 5. he has a trendy name and the media has done a hell of a job at pushing him to the top. its a mental thing .... thanks to the media, people who don't even follow basketball will say "oh yea Howard is awesome! he has cool cell phone commercials!"

also how in the hell can you justify ranking DWill in the top 10, but not Steve Nash?

lol

son Parker may not put up as many assist as Williams, but he is a FAR BETTER scorer and a proven winner. why is it funny that I would take Parker over Williams?

son I give Williams his props and at this stage of their careers I think Williams has more physical talent than Parker does. However that doesn't mean that I would prefer Williams over Parker ... I would take Parker over Williams for numerous reasons .... compared to Williams, Parker is ...

- a proven winner and great teammate
- a clutch player
- has a better basketball IQ
- a better scorer

BR, you're slipping, son.

Where do you rank Kobe if the free-throw didn't exist? You've always said that Kobe is merely a role player without the free-throw, which Stern gives him in abundance to try and manufacture the next great. Kinda like McMahon always giving Cena the title.

D-Will could do the same things as Steve Nash, but he plays better D. The only advantage I see that Steve Nash has that D-Will will probably never get is his vision awareness. I wanted to put nash over either Rondo and/or Pierce, but it's very close. I admit it was debatable for the 14/15 spot.

I've watch D-Ho play, his defense is scary for opponents and I can see his improved offense in the offseason is paying off. The Miami game is a great example. Nobody was able to help D-Ho carry the offensive load. He didn't give up and got pretty good numbers(whether it was J Anthony or Ilgalskas) Miami did the smart thing and tried to get him in foul trouble because he was the only scorer on the team.

There is a reason why he won DPOY. He is one of the few big men that have great defensive awareness. It is not in the stats, but it is very difficult to go inside the paint and score over D-Ho. Centers and other players have a hard time going consistent on D-Ho(except Yao Ming). You add that to his improved offense and those are the reasons why I rated him #5.

Williams
Dirk

Rose
Nash
Rondo
Carmelo

Any list of this sort is subjective, and effected by personal biases. I think most people agree on the top few people , but the order of people becomes an issue and depends on personal views. I rate Gasol higher than Kobe (now). I think Gasol's passing and Defence anchor that team, though Kobe can seem more important because of the difference in quality of their backups. Gasol goes off, Odom and Bynum are usually on. Kobe goes off, and the flavour of the month backup guard replaces him(Sasha, Brown). Makes their value appear different. I don't think there's a right or wrong in the ordering of most of that 15.
