In announcing his timetable for retirement (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/at_34_duncan_prepares_for_another_long_haul_105746 483.html?showFullArticle=y) at the start of training camp, Tim Duncan accomplished a feat so rare that few of the all-time greats have ever achieved it.

In signing Tony Parker to an extension (http://www.48minutesofhell.com/tony-parker-multi-year-extension-san-antonio-spurs)–along with Manu Ginobili last year–that keeps the Spurs All-Star backcourt intact through their primes, the San Antonio Spurs took a large step towards an even rarer feat–extending that honor to their championship core.

I liked how he tied the Duncan quote to the core of the team. It's a month after the quote, but it's a timely piece because of Parker's extension.

Nice.

I do think Bruce was a key part of three championships, though, and probably deserves more credit than just "contributor". He was the team's defensive MVP, and the vaunted defensive-minded brand of "Spurs basketball" hasn't been the same since he left.

It wasn't the same in his final season, either TBQH.

Yeah, I think this is one of the better pieces I've read from them.
