Our professor was kinda weird today, she kept making mistakes writing our notes about WWII, and she was making excuses "I haven't been sleeping much, I was watching the election results, etc." and she said people already began campaigning, or "the presidential race started" or something to that effect...I haven't read much, but who is running so far? Or was she just saying that..can people already start campaigning 2 years before the next election?

I think Palin runs.....but don't be so sure she gets the nomination...

....I just don't see anyone in the GOP base beating Obama..

It would be nice to have someone who pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, maybe went to a state school, and actually worked for a living for a good, long while, rather than someone who lived in the ivory bubble, went straight to law school, then straight to government.

I agree, but how many people who have lived a real life are willing to subject themselves to the political process at the national level?

Who will run? I don't know. Too early to predict. there is rumor that Obama won't run again. that will make it wide open for sHillary. If he bows out, I see her as the nominee, but I don't think she will run against a sitting president. For republicans, I don't think Sarah wants the gig. I thin she found her calling. We have seen a few that we agree could do it like the Fat Man. Some speak of Jeb, but I don't think a third Bush will fly. I don't know what to think about The Donald. He I don't think he's serious, but if he is, I think he would win.

Other than this short response, I'm not going to make predictions as to who will actually run this early.

What exactly do you need to do to run for president? A certain amount of signatures to get on a ballot or something?

Also, who was the last president to not run for re-election (not fail to get re-elected, just..not even run for re-election)?

The wealthy Repugs' "economic vision" that paid of so well this election will certainly be

that vision:

maximize and prolong the economic disaster and pain through 2012 and blame every bit of it on Magic Negro, while lying that the Congressional Repugs' plans for the economy (which of course is a lie, those plans don't exist ) were thwarted by Magic Negro.

No matter which Repug runs for Pres in 2012, the above will be the context.

This entire thread is stupid, because it assumes the President is an all-powerful king. No matter who runs for the Repugs, he or she will be financed heavily, 10 to 1, by the VRWC.

Wouldn't going to Harvard be more in line with pulling oneself up by his bootstraps than going to a state school where your mythical hero's tuition is subsidized by the state?

Not if the subtext of the mythical hero in question were really that he's "just one of us." Kinda like Bush was marketed: "I could drink a beer with that dude -- he ain't no éelite, silver-spoonin', draft-dodgin', ivy-leaguer! Fella's even got a ranch fer chrissakes! One of us! One of us!"
