No. 4 Tim Duncan
San Antonio Spurs

$18.7 million

Duncan can make a strong case as the greatest power forward to ever play the game with four titles, two MVP awards and nine selections to the All-NBA first team. His current contract with the Spurs expires after next season.

The top five:

1. Kobe Bryant
2. Rashard Lewis
3. Kevin Garnett

The No.3 and No. 4 highest-paid are veterans Garnett and Tim Duncan who will earn $18.8 million and $18.7 million respectively this season. The two are among the best power forwards to ever play the game (Duncan is arguably the best) and have earned 25 All-Star nods between them. They are still productive players (Hollinger ranked Duncan fifth and Garnett 30th among all players last season in his ratings). Yet both are on the back-ends of their career and their teams play them only 30 minutes a game to keep them fresh for the playoffs.

Lewis still has another year worth over $21 million.

Next year Duncan will make $21,300,000 according to HoopsHype, which seems to match Forbes' numbers for the article.

highest PER of top 5 salaries; he could have been paid more, but decided to help the team financially

Yeah, I use Sham too, but it looks like the piece used HoopsHype for their figures so I went with that.

Michael Redd used to rock though. Why Rashard Lewis? He's always sucked and been average.

Redd could've lived up to that contract if he stayed healthy. Lewis just straight up robbed the Magic though.

#2 and #5 are both abominations, and the reason that the CBA is being re-done.

Redd is not a franchise guy, he's just a good shooter/scorer. He's the kind of guy you let walk if he's trying to hold you hostage, because shooting guards are easily findable. There are probably 10 guys who produce within 10% of him and make half the money. Hell, they found Redd in the second round.

I think half the problem is Van Gundy insists on using him as a 4 when he is really a 3, same thing that compounded Jefferson's problems last year.

I think most Spurs fans think Duncan will get extended, especially since both Manu and TP signed extensions.

What do you guys think the numbers for Duncan's new deal will look like?

I'd say around 12 mil. Can Rashard Lewis even guard todays sf?

Actually, moving him to the three was one of their action items for this year, and they've done it. So much for it being where he belongs.

Redd and Lewis is no suprise...theres always 2 or 3 players in the top 5 that dont belong. In years past I rememeber names like Finley, Allen Houston, Stephon Marbury, and Jermain Oneal being in the top 5 long after the one good season that earned them that contract

Would it be legal for Duncan to take a super large paycut for his next contract? Like down to 5 mil or something so we can sign some bigger free agents. I know deserves like 50 mil per year after all he's done, but he's been known to take one for the team.
